| 1達味王年紀已老，雖然蓋着許多被褥，仍然不覺溫暖。 | 1Now king David was old, and advanced in years: and when he was covered with clothes, he was not warm. |
| 2於是他的臣僕對他說：「讓人為我主大王找一個年輕少女來，服侍大王，照料大王，睡在大王懷裏，溫暖我主大王。」 | 2His servants therefore said to him: Let us seek for our lord the king, a young virgin, and let her stand before the king, and cherish him, and sleep in his bosom, and warm our lord the king. |
| 3他們就在以色列全境，尋找美麗的少女；找着了一個叔能女子阿彼沙格，便領她到君王那裏。 | 3So they sought a beautiful young woman in all the coasts of Israel, and they found Abisag a Sunamitess, and brought her to the king. |
| 4這少女非常美麗，她就照料服侍君王，君王卻沒有認識她。 | 4And the damsel was exceeding beautiful, and she slept with the king: and served him, but the king did not know her. |
| 5那時，哈基特的兒子阿多尼雅自尊自大說：「我必要作王！」他遂為自己預備了車輛和騎兵，有五十人在他前面開道。 | 5And Adonias the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying: I will be king. And he made himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him. |
| 6他的父親一生從未責罵過他說：「你為什麼這樣做？」他出生於阿貝沙隆之後，也是個十分英俊的人。 | 6Neither did his father rebuke him at any time, saying: Why hast thou done this? And he also was very beautiful, the next in birth after Absalom. |
| 7他曾與責魯雅的兒子約阿布和司祭厄貝雅塔爾商議過，他們二人都支持阿多尼雅。 | 7And he conferred with Joab the son of Sarvia, and with Abiathar the priest, who furthered Adonias's side. |
| 8但是司祭匝多克、約雅達的兒子貝納雅、先知納堂、史米、勒依，以及達味的勇士們，都不擁護阿多尼雅。 | 8But Sadoc the priest, and Banaias the son of Joiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Semei, and Rei, and the strength of David's army was not with Adonias. |
| 9一天，阿多尼雅在洛革耳泉旁的左赫肋特磐石上，宰殺了牛羊和肥犢，邀請了君王的兒子們──他所有的兄弟，和所有作君王臣僕的猶大人， | 9And Adonias having slain rams and calves, and all fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which was near the fountain Rogel, invited all his brethren the king's sons, and all the men of Juda, the king's servants: |
| 10惟獨沒有邀請先知納堂、貝納雅、勇士們和他的兄弟撒羅滿。 | 10But Nathan the prophet, and Banaias, and all the valiant men, and Solomon his brother, he invited not. |
| 11納堂對撒羅滿的母親巴特舍巴說：「你沒有聽說：哈基特的兒子阿多尼雅已作了王，而我們的主上達味還不知道嗎？ | 11And Nathan said to Bethsabee the mother of Solomon: Hast thou not heard that Adonias the son of Haggith reigneth, and our lord David knoweth it not? |
| 12現在，我給你出個主意，好保全你和你兒子撒羅滿的性命。 | 12Now then come, take my counsel and save thy life, and the life of thy son Solomon. |
| 13你去見達味，對他說：我主大王，你不是曾向你的婢女起誓說：你的兒子撒羅滿必要繼我為王，坐上我的寶座嗎？為什麼阿多尼雅卻作了王呢？ | 13Go, and get thee in to king David, and say to him: Didst not thou, my lord O king, swear to me thy handmaid, saying: Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne? why then doth Adonias reign? |
| 14當你還在那裏與君王說話時，我便隨後進來，證實你的話。」 | 14And while thou art yet speaking there with the king, I will come in after thee, and will fill up thy words. |
| 15巴特舍巴於是進了君王的內室。君王年紀已老，叔能女子阿彼沙格正在旁服侍君王。 | 15So Bethsabee went in to the king into the chamber: now the king was very old, and Abisag the Sunamitess ministered to him. |
| 16巴特舍巴便俯伏叩拜君王。君王問說：「你有什麼事？」 | 16Bethsabee bowed herself, and worshipped the king. And the king said to her: What is thy will? |
| 17巴特舍巴答說：「我主，你曾指着上主你的天主向你的婢女起誓說：你的兒子撒羅滿必要繼我為王，坐上我的寶座。 | 17She answered and said: My lord, thou didst swear to thy handmaid by the Lord thy God, saying: Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne. |
| 18但是，現在阿多尼雅已作了王，而我主大王，你還不知道。 | 18And behold now Adonias reigneth, and thou, my lord the king, knowest nothing of it. |
| 19他宰殺了許多牛、肥犢和羊，邀請了君王所有的兒子和厄貝雅塔爾司祭並約阿布元帥，惟獨你的僕人撒羅滿，他沒有邀請。 | 19He hath killed oxen, and all fat cattle, and many rams, and invited all the king's sons, and Abiathar the priest, and Joab the general of the army: but Solomon thy servant he invited not. |
| 20我主大王，現在全以色列人的眼望着你，等待你通告他們，誰要坐上我主大王的寶座，繼承大王。 | 20And now, my lord O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, that thou shouldst tell them, who shall sit on thy throne, my lord the king, after thee. |
| 21不然，將來我主大王同自己的祖先長眠之後，我和我的兒子撒羅滿必被列為罪犯。」 | 21Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king sleepeth with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders. |
| 22正當她同君王談話時，納堂先知進來了。 | 22As she was yet speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet came. |
| 23有人稟告君王說：「納堂先知來了。」他來到君王面前，便俯首至地，向君王下拜。 | 23And they told the king, saying: Nathan the prophet is here. And when he was come in before the king, and had worshipped, bowing down to the ground, |
| 24納堂說：「我主大王，想必你說過，阿多尼雅必要繼我為王，坐上我的寶座。 | 24Nathan said: My lord O king, hast thou said: Let Adonias reign after me, and let him sit upon my throne? |
| 25因為他今天下去，宰殺了許多牛、肥犢和羊，邀請了君王所有的兒子和軍官，以及厄貝雅塔爾司祭；他們在他面前吃喝，呼喊說：阿多尼雅王萬歲！ | 25Because he is gone down today, and hath killed oxen, and fatlings, and many rams, and invited all the king's sons, and the captains of the army, and Abiathar the priest: and they are eating and drinking before him, and saying: God save king Adonias: |
| 26至於你的僕人我、匝多克司祭、約雅達的兒子貝納雅，以及你的兒子撒羅滿，他都沒有邀請。 | 26But me thy servant, and Sadoc the priest, and Banaias the son of Joiada, and Solomon thy servant he hath not invited. |
| 27如果這事是出於我主大王，難道你會不通告你的僕人，誰要坐上我主大王的寶座，繼承大王嗎？」 | 27Is this word come out from my lord the king, and hast thou not told me thy servant who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him? |
| 28達味回答說：「快給我召巴特舍巴來！」她便進來立在君王面前。 | 28And king David answered and said: Call to me Bethsabee. And when she was come in to the king, and stood before him, |
| 29君王起誓說：「救我脫離各種患難的上主永在！ | 29The king swore and said: As the Lord liveth, who hath delivered my soul out of all distress, |
| 30我既然曾指着上主以色列的天主向你起誓說：你的兒子撒羅滿必要繼我為王，代我坐上我的寶座：今天我就要這樣作。」 | 30Even as I swore to thee by the Lord the God of Israel, saying: Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead, so will I do this day. |
| 31巴特舍巴遂俯伏在地，叩拜君王說：「願我主大王達味萬歲！」 | 31And Bethsabee bowing with her face to the earth worshipped the king, saying: May my lord David live for ever. |
| 32達味王接着說：「將司祭匝多克、先知納堂、約雅達的兒子貝納雅，給我召來。」他們都來到君王面前。 | 32King David also said: Call me Sadoc the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Banaias the son of Joiada. And when they were come in before the king, |
| 33君王對他們說：「率領你們主子的僕人，立刻叫我兒撒羅滿騎上我自己的騾子，護送他下到基紅去。 | 33He said to them: Take with you the servants of your lord, and set my son Solomon upon my mule: and bring him to Gihon. |
| 34司祭匝多克和先知納堂要在那裏給他傅油，立他為以色列王。你們要吹號歡呼說：撒羅滿王萬歲！ | 34And let Sadoc the priest, and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel: and you shall sound the trumpet, and shall say: God save king Solomon. |
| 35以後，你們跟他上來，他要來坐我的寶座，繼位為王，因為我已欽定他作以色列和猶大的領袖。」 | 35And you shall come up after him, and he shall come, and shall sit upon my throne, and he shall reign in my stead: and I will appoint him to be ruler over Israel, and over Juda. |
| 36約雅達的兒子貝納雅回答君王說：「但願如此！願我主大王的上主天主，如此照准！ | 36And Banaias the son of Joiada answered the king, saying: Amen: so say the Lord the God of my lord the king. |
| 37上主如何與我主大王同在，也願他與撒羅滿同在！使他的王位高於我主君王達味的王位。」 | 37As the Lord hath been with my lord the king, so be he with Solomon, and make his throne higher than the throne of my lord king David. |
| 38於是司祭匝多克、先知納堂、約雅達的兒子貝納雅、革勒提人和培肋提人下去，叫撒羅滿騎上達味王的騾子，護送他到了基紅。 | 38So Sadoc the priest, and Nathan the prophet went down, and Banaias the son of Joiada, and the Cerethi, and Phelethi: and they set Solomon upon the mule of king David, and brought him to Gihon. |
| 39司祭匝多克從會幕裏取過油角來，給撒羅滿傅了油，人們立即吹號，眾百姓一起歡呼說：「撒羅滿王萬歲！」 | 39And Sadoc the priest took a horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon: and they sounded the trumpet, and all the people said: God save king Solomon. |
| 40以後，所有的人民擁護他上去，吹着笛子，盡情歡喜，以致大地也因他們的歡呼聲而震動了。 | 40And all the multitude went up after him, and the people played with pipes, and rejoiced with a great joy, and the earth rang with the noise of their cry. |
| 41阿多尼雅和他所請的一切客人歡宴剛完，都聽見了這聲音；約阿布一聽見號聲，便問說：「為什麼城中這樣鼓噪？」 | 41And Adonias, and all that were invited by him, heard it, and now the feast was at an end: Joab also hearing the sound of the trumpet, said: What meaneth this noise of the city in an uproar? |
| 42他正說話的時候，司祭厄貝雅塔爾的兒子約納堂來了，阿多尼雅說：「進來，你是個英雄好漢，想必帶來了好消息！」 | 42While he yet spoke, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came: and Adonias said to him: Come in, because thou art a valiant man, and bringest good news. |
| 43約納堂回答阿多尼雅說：「不！我們的主上達味王已立撒羅滿為王了。 | 43And Jonathan answered Adonias: Not so: for our lord king David hath appointed Solomon king. |
| 44君王派司祭匝多克、先知納堂、約雅達的兒子貝納雅、革勒提人和培肋提人，護送他下去，叫他騎上了君王的騾子。 | 44And hath sent with him Sadoc the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Banaias the son of Joiada, and the Cerethi, and Phelethi, and they have set him upon the king's mule. |
| 45司祭匝多克和先知納堂已在基紅給他傅了油，立他為王。現在他們正從那裏歡呼上來，震動了全城：這就是你們聽到的喧嚷聲。 | 45And Sadoc the priest, and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon: and they are gone up from thence rejoicing, so that the city rang again: this is the noise that you have heard. |
| 46撒羅滿現已坐上了君王的寶座， | 46Moreover Solomon sitteth upon the throne of the kingdom, |
| 47君王的臣僕都來祝賀我們的主上達味王說：願你的天主使撒羅滿的名聲比你的名聲更榮耀，使他的王位比你的王位更興隆！君王就伏在床上下拜， | 47And the king's servants going in have blessed our lord king David, saying: May God make the name of Solomon greater than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne. And the king adored in his bed: |
| 48且說：上主以色列的天主應受讚美！因為今天他指派了一個人坐上我的寶座，我也親眼看見了。」 | 48And he said: Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel, who hath given this day one to sit on my throne, my eyes seeing it. |
| 49阿多尼雅請來的客人都害了怕，起來各自走了。 | 49Then all the guests of Adonias were afraid, and they all arose and every man went his way. |
| 50阿多尼雅也害怕撒羅滿，遂起來跑到上主的會幕內，抱住祭壇的角。 | 50And Adonias fearing Solomon, arose, and went, and took hold on the horn of the altar. |
| 51有人告訴撒羅滿說：「看，阿多尼雅害怕撒羅滿王，抱住祭壇的角說：撒羅滿王先得向我起誓：決不用刀殺死他的僕人。」 | 51And they told Solomon, saying: Behold Adonias, fearing king Solomon, hath taken hold of the horn of the altar, saying: Let king Solomon swear to me this day, that he will not kill his servant with the sword. |
| 52撒羅滿說：「如果他肯做一個忠義的人，他的一根頭髮也不會落在地上；但如果發現他有什麼不對，必死無疑。」 | 52And Solomon said: If he be a good man, there shall not so much as one hair of his head fall to the ground: but if evil be found in him, he shall die. |
| 53撒羅滿王遂派人去，叫他從祭壇上下來；他便前來，俯伏在撒羅滿王前。撒羅滿對他說：「你回家去罷！」 | 53Then king Solomon sent, and brought him out from the altar: and going in he worshipped king Solomon: and Solomon said to him: Go to thy house. |
