| 1誰若想望監督的職分，是渴望一件善事：這話是確實的。 | 1A faithful saying: if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. |
| 2那麼，監督必須是無可指摘的，只作過一個妻子的丈夫，有節制，應慎重，端莊，好客，善於教導； | 2It behoveth therefore a bishop to be blameless, the husband of one wife, sober, prudent, of good behaviour, chaste, given to hospitality, a teacher, |
| 3不嗜酒，不暴戾，而應溫良和善，不貪愛錢財， | 3Not given to wine, no striker, but modest, not quarrelsome, not covetous, but |
| 4善於管理自己的家庭，使子女們服從，凡事端莊； | 4One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all chastity. |
| 5誰若不知管理自己的家庭，如何能照管天主的教會？ | 5But if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God? |
| 6不可是新奉教的，怕他妄自尊大，而陷於魔鬼所受的判決， | 6Not a neophyte: lest being puffed up with pride, he fall into the judgment of the devil. |
| 7並且在外人中也必須有好聲望，怕他遭人誹謗，落入魔鬼的羅網。 | 7Moreover he must have a good testimony of them who are without: lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. |
| 8執事也必須端莊，不一口兩舌，不飲酒過度，不貪贓； | 8Deacons in like manner chaste, not double tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre: |
| 9以純潔的良心，保持信德的奧蹟。 | 9Holding the mystery of faith in a pure conscience. |
| 10這些人應當先受試驗，如果無瑕可指，然後纔能作執事。 | 10And let these also first be proved: and so let them minister, having no crime. |
| 11女人也必須端莊，不讒謗，有節制，凡事忠信。 | 11The women in like manner chaste, not slanderers, but sober, faithful in all things. |
| 12執事應當只作過一個妻子的丈夫，善於管理自己的子女和家庭， | 12Let deacons be the husbands of one wife: who rule well their children, and their own houses. |
| 13因為善於服務的，自可獲得優越的品位，而大膽地宣揚基督耶穌內的信仰。 | 13For they that have ministered well, shall purchase to themselves a good degree, and much confidence in the faith which is in Christ Jesus. |
| 14我雖希望快到你那裏去，但我仍把這些事寫給你； | 14These things I write to thee, hoping that I shall come to thee shortly. |
| 15假使我遲遲不到，你可知道在天主的家中應當如何行動；這家就是永生天主的教會，真理的柱石和基礎。 | 15But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. |
| 16無不公認，這虔敬的奧蹟是偉大的：就是他出現於肉身，受證於聖神，發顯於天使，被傳於異民，見信於普世，被接於光榮。 | 16And evidently great is the mystery of godliness, which was manifested in the flesh, was justified in the spirit, appeared unto angels, hath been preached unto the Gentiles, is believed in the world, is taken up in glory. |
