¹在凱撒勒雅有一個人，名叫科爾乃略，是所謂意大利營的百夫長。	¹And there was a certain man in Caesarea, named Cornelius, a centurion of that which is called the Italian band;
²他同他的全家，是虔誠而敬畏天主的人，對百姓慷慨好施，又常向天主祈禱。	²A religious man, and fearing God with all his house, giving much alms to the people, and always praying to God.
³有一天，大約第九時辰，他在異像中，清楚看見天主的一位天使進來，到他跟前向他說：「科爾乃略！」	³This man saw in a vision manifestly, about the ninth hour of the day, an angel of God coming in unto him, and saying to him: Cornelius.
⁴他注目看天使，就驚惶害怕說：「主，有什麼事？」天使回答說：「你的祈禱和施捨已升到天主面前，獲得紀念。	⁴And he, beholding him, being seized with fear, said: What is it, Lord? And he said to him: Thy prayers and thy alms are ascended for a memorial in the sight of God.
⁵你現在打發人往約培去，請號稱伯多祿的一位西滿來。	⁵And now send men to Joppe, and call hither one Simon, who is surnamed Peter:
⁶這人客居在一個名叫西滿的皮匠家裏，他的房子靠着海。」	⁶He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side. He will tell thee what thou must do.
⁷向他說話的天使一走，他便叫來了兩個家僕和常護衛自己的一個虔誠兵士，	⁷And when the angel who spoke to him was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a soldier who feared the Lord, of them that were under him.
⁸把一切事告訴了他們，就打發他們往約培去了。	⁸To whom when he had related all, he sent them to Joppe.
⁹第二天，他們行路將近城的時候，約在第六個時辰，伯多祿上了屋頂祈禱。	⁹And on the next day, whilst they were going on their journey, and drawing nigh to the city, Peter went up to the higher parts of the house to pray, about the sixth hour.
¹⁰他那時餓了，願意進食；正在人預備飯的時候，他就神魂超拔了。	¹⁰And being hungry, he was desirous to taste somewhat. And as they were preparing, there came upon him an ecstasy of mind.
¹¹他看見天開了，降下一個器皿，好像一塊大布，繫着四角，縋到地上，	¹¹And he saw the heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending, as it were a great linen sheet let down by the four corners from heaven to the earth:
¹²裏面有各種四足獸、地上的爬蟲和天空的飛鳥。	¹²Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts, and creeping things of the earth, and fowls of the air.
¹³有聲音向他說：「伯多祿！起來，宰了，吃罷！」	¹³And there came a voice to him: Arise, Peter; kill and eat.
¹⁴伯多祿卻答說：「主，絕對不可！因為我從來沒有吃過一樣污穢和不潔之物。」	¹⁴But Peter said: Far be it from me; for I never did eat any thing that is common and unclean.
¹⁵聲音第二次又向他說：「天主稱為潔淨的，你不可稱為污穢！」	¹⁵And the voice spoke to him again the second time: That which God hath cleansed, do not thou call common.
¹⁶這事一連發生了三次，那器皿隨即撤回天上去了。	¹⁶And this was done thrice; and presently the vessel was taken up into heaven.
¹⁷伯多祿正在猜想他所見的異像有什麼意思的時候，看，科爾乃略打發來的人，已查問到西滿的家，站在門前。	¹⁷Now, whilst Peter was doubting within himself, what the vision that he had seen should mean, behold the men who were sent from Cornelius, inquiring for Simon's house, stood at the gate.
¹⁸他們喊着詢問：號稱伯多祿的西滿是否住在這裏。	¹⁸And when they had called, they asked, if Simon, who is surnamed Peter, were lodged there.
¹⁹伯多祿還在沉思那異像時，聖神說：「看，有三個人找你。	¹⁹And as Peter was thinking of the vision, the Spirit said to him: Behold three men seek thee.
²⁰起來，下去，同他們一起去罷！不要疑惑，因為是我打發他們來的。」	²⁰Arise, therefore, get thee down and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.
²¹伯多祿下來向那些人說：「看，我就是你們所找的人。你們來這裏做什麼？」	²¹Then Peter, going down to the men, said: Behold, I am he whom you seek; what is the cause for which you are come?
²²他們答說：「科爾乃略百夫長是個正義和敬畏天主的人，也受全猶太人民的稱譽；他蒙聖天使指示，請你到他家去，聽你講道。」	²²Who said: Cornelius, a centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and having good testimony from all the nation of the Jews, received an answer of an holy angel, to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.
²³伯多祿於是請他們進來住下，第二天起來，便同他們一齊去了；還有幾個約培的兄弟陪着他。	²³Then bringing them in, he lodged them. And the day following he arose, and went with them: and some of the brethren from Joppe accompanied him.
²⁴次日，他到了凱撒勒雅。那時，科爾乃略召集了自己的親戚和密友，等候他們來。	²⁴And the morrow after, he entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, having called together his kinsmen and special friends.
²⁵當伯多祿進來的時候，科爾乃略去迎接他，跪伏在他腳前叩拜。	²⁵And it came to pass, that when Peter was come in, Cornelius came to meet him, and falling at his feet adored.
²⁶伯多祿拉他起來說：「起來！我自己也是個人。」	²⁶But Peter lifted him up, saying: Arise, I myself also am a man.
²⁷就同他談着話進去了，看見有許多人聚集在那裏，	²⁷And talking with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.
²⁸便對他們說：「你們都知道猶太人是不准同外邦人交接來往的；但是，天主指示給我，沒有一個可說是污穢或不潔的人。	²⁸And he said to them: You know how abominable it is for a man that is a Jew, to keep company or to come unto one of another nation: but God hath shewed to me, to call no man common or unclean.
²⁹為此，我一被請，毫不猶豫地就來了。請問：你們請我來是為什麼原故？」	²⁹For which cause, making no doubt, I came when I was sent for. I ask, therefore, for what cause you have sent for me?
³⁰科爾乃略說：「從此時起，四天以前，第九時辰，我在我房中祈禱時，忽然有位穿華麗衣服的人站在我面前，	³⁰And Cornelius said: Four days ago, unto this hour, I was praying in my house, at the ninth hour, and behold a man stood before me in white apparel, and said:
³¹說：科爾乃略，你的祈禱蒙了垂允，你的施捨在天主前得到記念。	³¹Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thy alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.
³²所以，你要打發人往約培去，叫號稱伯多祿的西滿來，他客居在靠近海的皮匠西滿家裏。	³²Send therefore to Joppe, and call hither Simon, who is surnamed Peter: he lodgeth in the house of Simon a tanner, by the sea side.
³³我就立刻打發人到你那裏去了。你來的真好！現今我們眾人都在天主前，要聽主所吩咐你的一切。」	³³Immediately therefore I sent to thee: and thou hast done well in coming. Now therefore all we are present in thy sight, to hear all things whatsoever are commanded thee by the Lord.
³⁴伯多祿遂開口說：「我真正明白了：天主是不看情面的，	³⁴And Peter opening his mouth, said: In very deed I perceive, that God is not a respecter of persons.
³⁵凡在各民族中，敬畏他而又履行正義的人，都是他所中悅的。	³⁵But in every nation, he that feareth him, and worketh justice, is acceptable to him.
³⁶他藉耶穌基督──他原是萬民的主──宣講了和平的喜訊，把這道先傳給以色列子民。	³⁶God sent the word to the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all.)
³⁷你們都知道：在若翰宣講洗禮以後，從加里肋亞開始，在全猶太所發生的事：	³⁷You know the word which hath been published through all Judea: for it began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached,
³⁸天主怎樣以聖神和德能傅了納匝肋的耶穌，使他巡行各處，施恩行善，治好一切受魔鬼壓制的人，因為天主同他在一起。	³⁸Jesus of Nazareth: how God anointed him with the Holy Ghost, and with power, who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.
³⁹我們就是他在猶太人地域和耶路撒冷所行一切的見證人。他們卻把他懸在木架上，殺死了。	³⁹And we are witnesses of all things that he did in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed, hanging him upon a tree.
⁴⁰第三天，天主使他復活了，叫他顯現出來，	⁴⁰Him God raised up the third day, and gave him to be made manifest,
⁴¹不是給所有的百姓，而是給天主所預揀的見證人，就是給我們這些在他從死者中復活後，與他同食共飲的人。	⁴¹Not to all the people, but to witnesses preordained by God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he arose again from the dead;
⁴²他吩咐我們向百姓講道，指證他就是天主所立的生者與死者的判官。	⁴²And he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is he who was appointed by God, to be judge of the living and of the dead.
⁴³一切先知都為他作證：凡信他的人，賴他的名字都要獲得罪赦。」	⁴³To him all the prophets give testimony, that by his name all receive remission of sins, who believe in him.
⁴⁴伯多祿還在講這些話的時候，聖神降在所有聽道的人身上。	⁴⁴While Peter was yet speaking these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them that heard the word.
⁴⁵那些受過割損與伯多祿同來的信徒，都驚訝聖神的恩惠也傾注在外邦人身上，	⁴⁵And the faithful of the circumcision, who came with Peter, were astonished, for that the grace of the Holy Ghost was poured out upon the Gentiles also.
⁴⁶因為聽見他們說各種語言，並頌揚天主。那時，伯多祿就發言說：	⁴⁶For they heard them speaking with tongues, and magnifying God.
⁴⁷「這些人既領受了聖神，和我們一樣，誰能阻止他們不受水洗呢？」	⁴⁷Then Peter answered: Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, who have received the Holy Ghost, as well as we?
⁴⁸遂吩咐人以耶穌基督的名給他們付洗。以後，他們求伯多祿再住了幾天。	⁴⁸And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Then they desired him to tarry with them some days.
