| 1吾主上主叫我看見這事：割完君王的青草，當晚草初生時，看，蝗蟲出現了。 | 1These things the Lord God shewed to me: and behold the locust was formed in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter rain, and lo, it was the latter rain after the king's mowing. |
| 2當蝗蟲要吃光地上的青草時，我就說：「吾主上主，求你饒恕罷！雅各伯還怎能存在？他已這樣弱小！」 | 2And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, I said: O Lord God, be merciful, I beseech thee: who shall raise up Jacob, for he is very little? |
| 3上主對這事後悔了。上主說：「這事不會發生。」 | 3The Lord had pity upon this: It shall not be, said the Lord. |
| 4吾主上主叫我看見這事：看，吾主上主召來懲罰的火，燒毀了廣大的深淵，又燒毀了上主的基業。 | 4These things the Lord God shewed to me: and behold the Lord called for judgment unto fire, and it devoured the great deep, and ate up a part at the same time. |
| 5我就說：「吾主上主！求你罷休！雅各伯還怎能存在？他已這樣弱小！」 | 5And I said: O Lord God, cease, I beseech thee, who shall raise up Jacob, for he is a little one? |
| 6上主對這事後悔了。吾主上主說：「這事也不會發生。」 | 6The Lord had pity upon this. Yea this also shall not be, said the Lord God. |
| 7吾主上主叫我看見這事：看，有一人立在牆上，手中拿着一條鉛垂線。 | 7These things the Lord shewed to me: and behold the Lord was standing upon a plastered wall, and in his hand a mason's trowel. |
| 8上主對我說：「亞毛斯，你看見了什麼？」我答說：「一條鉛垂線。」吾主說：「看，我將鉛垂線安置在我民族以色列當中，我不再放過她。 | 8And the Lord said to me: What seest thou, Amos? And I said: A mason's trowel. And the Lord said: Behold, I will lay down the trowel in the midst of my people Israel. I will plaster them over no more. |
| 9依撒格的高丘必要荒蕪，以色列的聖所必要廢棄；我必起來用刀攻擊雅洛貝罕家。」 | 9And the high places of the idol shall be thrown down, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste: and I will rise up against the house of Jeroboam with the sword. |
| 10那時，貝特耳的司祭阿瑪責雅派人向以色列王雅洛貝罕說：「亞毛斯在以色列家中圖謀背叛你，國家不能再容受他的一切言論， | 10And Amasias the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying: Amos hath rebelled against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words. |
| 11因為亞毛斯這樣說：雅洛貝罕必死於刀下，以色列必被擄去充軍，遠離本土。」 | 11For thus saith Amos: Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall be carried away captive out of their own land. |
| 12事後，阿瑪責雅又向亞毛斯說：「先見者，你走罷！趕快到猶大國去，在那裏餬口，在那裏講預言。 | 12And Amasias said to Amos: Thou seer, go, flee away into the land of Juda: and eat bread there, and prophesy there. |
| 13在貝特耳不可再講預言，因為這裏是君王的聖所，王國的殿宇。」 | 13But prophesy not again any more in Bethel: because it is the king's sanctuary, and it is the house of the kingdom. |
| 14亞毛斯回答阿瑪責雅說：「我原不是先知，也不是先知的弟子，只是一個放羊兼修剪野無花果的人。 | 14And Amos answered and said to Amasias: I am not a prophet, nor am I the son of a prophet: but I am a herdsman plucking wild figs. |
| 15但是，上主正在我趕羊時提了我來。上主對我說：你去向我的百姓以色列講預言罷！ | 15And the Lord took me when I followed the flock, and the Lord said to me: Go, prophesy to my people Israel. |
| 16現今，你且聽上主說什麼。你說：不要講預言攻擊以色列，不要發言反對依撒格家！ | 16And now hear thou the word of the Lord: Thou sayest, thou shalt not prophesy against Israel, and thou shalt not drop thy word upon the house of the idol. |
| 17為此，上主這樣說：你的妻子必在城中賣淫，你的子女必喪身刀下，你的田地必被人以繩墨瓜分，你自己必死在不潔之地，以色列必被擄去充軍，遠離本土。」 | 17Therefore thus saith the Lord: Thy wife shall play the harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be measured by a line: and thou shalt die in a polluted land, and Israel shall go into captivity out of their land. |
