| 1全能的上主，以色列的天主！憂傷的靈魂和苦惱的心靈正在向你呼號： | 1And now, O Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, the soul in anguish, and the troubled spirit crieth to thee: |
| 2上主！求你俯聽垂憐，因為你是仁慈的天主；求你垂憐，因我們得罪了你。 | 2Hear, O Lord, and have mercy, for thou art a merciful God, and have pity on us: for we have sinned before thee. |
| 3你永居王位，而我們卻要永遠喪亡。 | 3For thou remainest for ever, and shall we perish everlastingly? |
| 4全能的上主，以色列的天主！求你俯聽垂死的以色列人，和犯罪得罪了你的人的子孫的祈禱：他們沒有聽從你，他們天主的聲音，因此災禍便纏繞我們。 | 4O Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, hear now the prayer of the dead of Israel, and of their children, that have sinned before thee, and have not hearkened to the voice of the Lord their God, wherefore evils have cleaved fast to us. |
| 5求你不再記憶我們祖先的不義，求你在此時只憶及你的威能和你的聖名， | 5Remember not the iniquities of our fathers, but think upon thy hand, and upon thy name at this time: |
| 6因為你是上主，我們的天主，我們要讚頌你，上主！ | 6For thou art the Lord our God, and we will praise thee, O Lord: |
| 7你使我們存心敬畏你，正是為叫我們稱呼你的名號；如今我們就在流徙之地讚頌你，從心裏離棄我們的祖先在你前所犯的一切不義。 | 7Because for this end thou hast put thy fear in our hearts, to the intent that we should call upon thy name, and praise thee in our captivity, for we are converted from the iniquity of our fathers, who sinned before thee. |
| 8看，我們今天仍在你叫我們流徙所到的充軍地，飽受詛咒凌辱，為補贖我們祖先的一切不義，因為他們離棄了上主，我們的天主。 | 8And behold we are at this day in our captivity, whereby thou hast scattered us to be a reproach, and a curse, and an offence, according to all the iniquities of our fathers, who departed from thee, O Lord our God. |
| 9null | 9Hear, O Israel, the commandments of life: give ear, that thou mayst learn wisdom. |
| 10以色列，請聽取生命的規律，請側耳領會智慧。 | 10How happeneth it, O Israel, that thou art in thy enemies' land? |
| 11以色列！這是什麼事呢？怎麼你竟住在敵人的國內，在異地衰老， | 11Thou art grown old in a strange country, thou art defiled with the dead: thou art counted with them that go down into hell. |
| 12與亡者同污，與降入陰府的人同列呢？ | 12Thou hast forsaken the fountain of wisdom: |
| 13這是因為你離棄了智慧的泉源。 | 13For if thou hadst walked in the way of God, thou hadst surely dwelt in peace for ever. |
| 14倘若你走天主的道路，你必永遠處於平安之中。 | 14Learn where is wisdom, where is strength, where is understanding: that thou mayst know also where is length of days and life, where is the light of the eyes, and peace. |
| 15你應學習智慧的所在，力量的所在，聰明的所在；這樣，你也能知道長壽和生命的所在，眼的光明和平安的所在。 | 15Who hath found out her place? and who hath gone in to her treasures? |
| 16誰找到了智慧的處所？誰進入了智慧的寶庫？ | 16Where are the princes of the nations, and they that rule over the beasts that are upon the earth? |
| 17治理人民和馴服地上走獸的人，在那裏呢？ | 17That take their diversion with the birds of the air. |
| 18玩弄空中的飛鳥和積蓄人依恃的金銀而貪得無厭的人，在那裏呢？ | 18That hoard up silver and gold, wherein men trust, and there is no end of their getting? who work in silver and are solicitous, and their works are unsearchable. |
| 19專心致志鑄造銀器，使自己的作品無奇不有的人，在那裏呢？ | 19They are cut off, and are gone down to hell, and others are risen up in their place. |
| 20他們都不見了，降入了陰府；已另有人起來代替了他們。 | 20Young men have seen the light, and dwelt upon the earth: but the way of knowledge they have not known, |
| 21年輕的一代一生在世上，就住在地上；但他們仍不認識智慧的道路， | 21Nor have they understood the paths thereof, neither have their children received it, it is far from their face. |
| 22仍不知道智慧的途徑，連他們的子孫，也沒有得到她，因為他們離她的道路很遠。 | 22It hath not been heard of in the land of Chanaan, neither hath it been seen in Theman. |
| 23在客納罕沒有人聽說過她，在特曼沒有人看見過她， | 23The children of Agar also, that search after the wisdom that is of the earth, the merchants of Merrha, and of Theman, and the tellers of fables, and searchers of prudence and understanding: but the way of wisdom they have not known, neither have they remembered her paths. |
| 24連在地上尋求明智的哈加爾的子孫，以及講說寓言並尋求明智的米德楊和特瑪商人，也不認識智慧的道路，不提及她的途徑。 | 24O Israel, how great is the house of God, and how vast is the place of his possession! |
| 25以色列天主的住所多麼廣大，他的領域多麼寬闊！ | 25It is great, and hath no end: it is high and immense. |
| 26真是廣大無邊，高遠無垠。 | 26There were the giants, those renowned men that were from the beginning, of great stature, expert in war. |
| 27在那裏曾出生過自古有名，身材魁梧和勇敢善戰的巨人， | 27The Lord chose not them, neither did they find the way of knowledge: therefore did they perish. |
| 28天主卻沒有揀選他們，沒有指示給他們智慧的道路； | 28And because they had not wisdom, they perished through their folly. |
| 29他們滅亡了，因為沒有智慧；他們滅亡了，因為他們昏愚。 | 29Who hath gone up into heaven, and taken her, and brought her down from the clouds? |
| 30誰曾上到天上，取得智慧，使她從雲中降下？ | 30Who hath passed over the sea, and found her, and brought her preferably to chosen gold? |
| 31誰曾橫渡海洋，尋獲智慧，用純金購買了她呢？ | 31There is none that is able to know her ways, nor that can search out her paths: |
| 32沒有人認識她的道路，沒有人探得她的途徑。 | 32But he that knoweth all things, knoweth her, and hath found her out with his understanding: he that prepared the earth for evermore, and filled it with cattle and fourfooted beasts: |
| 33惟有那全知者認識她，以自己的才智尋獲了她，是他永遠堅定了大地，使大地充滿了牲畜； | 33He that sendeth forth light, and it goeth: and hath called it, and it obeyeth him with trembling. |
| 34是他命閃光發出，閃光即發出；他一召回，即顫慄應命。 | 34And the stars have given light in their watches, and rejoiced: |
| 35星辰各在自己的崗位閃爍，喜形於色； | 35They were called, and they said: Here we are: and with cheerfulness they have shined forth to him that made them. |
| 36他一召喚，隨即答說：我們在此！向自己的創造者欣然閃爍。 | 36This is our God, and there shall no other be accounted of in comparison of him. |
| 37他就是我們的天主，沒有別的可同他相比； | 37He found out all the way of knowledge, and gave it to Jacob his servant, and to Israel his beloved. |
| 38他尋得了智慧的一切道路，將她賜給了他的僕人雅各伯，和他心愛的以色列； | 38Afterwards he was seen upon earth, and conversed with men. |
| 39從此智慧在地上出現，與世人共相往還。 | 39 |
