¹以色列子民離開埃及國後，第三個月初一那一天，到了西乃曠野。	¹In the third month of the departure of Israel out of the land of Egypt, on this day they came into the wilderness of Sinai:
²他們從勒非丁起程，來到西乃曠野，就在曠野中安了營；以色列人在那座山前安了營。	²For departing out of Raphidim, and coming to the desert of Sinai, they camped in the same place, and there Israel pitched their tents over against the mountain.
³梅瑟上到天主前，上主從山上召喚他說：「你要這樣告訴雅各伯家，訓示以色列子民說：	³And Moses went up to God: and the Lord called unto him from the mountain, and said: Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel:
⁴你們親自見了我怎樣對待了埃及人，怎樣好似鷹將你們背在翅膀上，將你們帶出來歸屬我。	⁴You have seen what I have done to the Egyptians, how I have carried you upon the wings of eagles, and have taken you to myself.
⁵現在你們若真聽我的話，遵守我的盟約，你們在萬民中將成為我的特殊產業。的確，普世全屬於我，	⁵If therefore you will hear my voice, and keep my covenant, you shall be my peculiar possession above all people: for all the earth is mine.
⁶但你們為我應成為司祭的國家，聖潔的國民。你應將這些話訓示以色列子民。」	⁶And you shall be to me a priestly kingdom, and a holy nation. Those are the words thou shalt speak to the children of Israel.
⁷梅瑟就去召集百姓的長老，將上主吩咐他的那一切話，都在他們前說明了。	⁷Moses came, and calling together the elders of the people, he declared all the words which the Lord had commanded.
⁸眾百姓一致回答說：「凡上主所吩咐的，我們全要作。」梅瑟遂將百姓的答覆轉達於上主。	⁸And all the people answered together: All that the Lord hath spoken, we will do. And when Moses had related the people's words to the Lord,
⁹上主向梅瑟說：「我要在濃雲中降到你前，叫百姓聽見我與你談話，使他們永遠信服你。」梅瑟遂向上主呈報了百姓的答覆。	⁹The Lord said to him: Lo, now will I come to thee in the darkness of a cloud, that the people may hear me speaking to thee, and may believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people to the Lord.
¹⁰上主向梅瑟說：「你到百姓那裏，叫他們今天明天聖潔自己，洗淨自己的衣服。	¹⁰And he said to him: Go to the people, and sanctify them today, and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments.
¹¹第三天都應準備妥當，因為第三天，上主要在百姓觀望之下降到西乃山上。	¹¹And let them be ready against the third day: for on the third day the Lord will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.
¹²你要給百姓在山周圍劃定界限說：應小心，不可上山，也不可觸摸山腳；凡觸摸那山的，應處死刑。	¹²And thou shalt appoint certain limits to the people round about, and thou shalt say to them: Take heed you go not up into the mount, and that ye touch not the borders thereof: every one that toucheth the mount dying he shall die.
¹³誰也不可用手觸摸那人，而應用石頭砸死或用箭射死；不論是獸是人，都不得生存；號角響起的時候，他們才可上山。」	¹³No hands shall touch him, but he shall be stoned to death, or shall be shot through with arrows: whether it be beast, or man, he shall not live. When the trumpet shall begin to sound, then let them go up into the mount.
¹⁴梅瑟下山來到百姓那裏，叫他們聖潔自己，洗淨自己的衣服。	¹⁴And Moses came down from the mount to the people, and sanctified them. And when they had washed their garments,
¹⁵他向百姓說：「到第三天應準備妥當，不可接近女人。」	¹⁵He said to them: Be ready against the third day, and come not near your wives.
¹⁶到了第三天早晨，山上雷電交作，濃雲密佈，角聲齊鳴，此時在營中的百姓都戰戰兢兢。	¹⁶And now the third day was come, and the morning appeared: and behold thunders began to be heard, and lightning to flash, and a very thick cloud to cover the mount, and the noise of the trumpet sounded exceeding loud, and the people that was in the camp, feared.
¹⁷梅瑟叫百姓從營中出來迎接天主，他們都站在山下。	¹⁷And when Moses had brought them forth to meet God from the place of the camp, they stood at the bottom of the mount.
¹⁸此時西乃全山冒煙，因為上主在火中降到山上；冒出的煙像火窯的煙，全山猛烈震動。	¹⁸And all mount Sinai was on a smoke: because the Lord was come down upon it in fire, and the smoke arose from it as out of a furnace: and all the mount was terrible.
¹⁹角聲越響越高；梅瑟遂開始說話，天主藉雷霆答覆他。	¹⁹And the sound of the trumpet grew by degrees louder and louder, and was drawn out to a greater length: Moses spoke, and God answered him.
²⁰上主降到西乃山頂上，召梅瑟上到山頂；梅瑟就上去了。	²⁰And the Lord came down upon mount Sinai, in the very top of the mount, and he called Moses unto the top thereof. And when he was gone up thither,
²¹上主向梅瑟說：「下去通告百姓：不可闖到上主面前觀看，免得許多人死亡。	²¹He said unto him: Go down, and charge the people: lest they should have a mind to pass the limits to see the Lord, and a very great multitude of them should perish.
²²連那些接近上主的司祭們，也應聖潔自己，免得上主擊殺他們。」	²²The priests also that come to the Lord, let them be sanctified, lest he strike them.
²³梅瑟答覆上主說：「百姓不能上西乃山，因你自己曾通告我們說：要在山的四周劃定界限，也宣布這山是不可侵犯的。」	²³And Moses said to the Lord: The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou did charge, and command, saying: Set limits about the mount, and sanctify it.
²⁴上主向他說：「下去，你同亞郎一起上來，但司祭和百姓不可闖到上主前，免得我擊殺他們。」	²⁴And the Lord said to him: Go, get thee down: and thou shalt come up, thou and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people pass the limits, nor come up to the Lord, lest he kill them.
²⁵梅瑟便下到百姓那裏，通知了他們。	²⁵And Moses went down to the people and told them all.
