¹有肋未家族的一個男子娶了肋未家族的一個女人為妻。	¹After this there went a man of the house of Levi; and took a wife of his own kindred.
²這女人懷孕生了一個兒子，見他俊美，就把他藏了三個月。	²And she conceived, and bore a son; and seeing him a goodly child hid him three months.
³以後不能再藏了，就拿了一個蒲草筐子，塗上瀝青和石漆，把孩子放在裏面，將筐放在尼羅河邊的蘆葦叢中。	³And when she could hide him no longer, she took a basket made of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and pitch: and put the little babe therein, and laid him in the sedges by the river's brink,
⁴孩子的姐姐遠遠的站着，想知道孩子究竟怎樣。	⁴His sister standing afar off, and taking notice what would be done.
⁵當時法郎的一個公主下到尼羅河邊洗澡，使女們在河邊上徘徊。公主發見蘆葦叢中那個筐子，就吩咐自己的使女將筐子取來。	⁵And behold the daughter of Pharao came down to wash herself in the river: and her maids walked by the river's brink. And when she saw the basket in the sedges, she sent one of her maids for it: and when it was brought,
⁶她打開一看，見有一個孩子正在哭涕，就動了可憐他的心說：「這必是一個希伯來人的孩子。」	⁶She opened it and seeing within it an infant crying, having compassion on it she said: This is one of the babes of the Hebrews.
⁷孩子的姐姐就對法郎的公主說：「你願意我去從希伯來婦女中給你請一個奶媽，為你乳養這個孩子嗎？」	⁷And the child's sister said to her Shall I go and call to thee a Hebrew woman, to nurse the babe?
⁸法郎的公主回答說：「你去罷！」少女便去叫了孩子的母親來。	⁸She answered: Go. The maid went and called her mother.
⁹法郎的公主對她說：「你將這孩子抱去，為我乳養他，我必給你工錢。」那婦人就接過去，乳養這個孩子。	⁹And Pharao's daughter said to her. Take this child and nurse him for me: I will give thee thy wages. The woman took, and nursed the child: and when he was grown up, she delivered him to Pharao's daughter.
¹⁰孩子長大了，那婦人就把他帶到公主那裏；公主遂收他作自己的兒子，給他起名叫梅瑟，說：「因為我從水裏拉出了他。」	¹⁰And she adopted him for a son, and called him Moses, saying: Because I took him out of the water.
¹¹過了許久，梅瑟已經長大，有一次出去探望自己的同胞，看見他們作苦工，又見一個埃及人打他的一個同胞希伯來人；	¹¹In those days after Moses was grown up, he went out to his brethren: and saw their affliction, and an Egyptian striking one of the Hebrews his brethren.
¹²他向四面一望，見沒有人，便將那埃及人打死，將他埋在沙土中。	¹²And when he had looked about this way and that way, and saw no one there, he slew the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.
¹³第二天他又出去，見兩個希伯來人打架，就對那無理的一方說：「你為什麼打你同族的人？」	¹³And going out the next day, he saw two Hebrews quarrelling: and he said to him that did the wrong: Why strikest thou thy neighbour?
¹⁴那人回答說：「誰立了你作我們的首領和判官？難道你想殺我，像殺那埃及人一樣嗎？」梅瑟就害怕了，心裏想：「那事一定叫人知道了！」	¹⁴But he answered: Who hath appointed thee prince and judge over us? Wilt thou kill me, as thou didst yesterday kill the Egyptian? Moses feared, and said: How is this come to be known?
¹⁵法郎聽說這事，就想殺死梅瑟；而梅瑟卻離開法郎逃走，去了米德楊地，坐在井旁。	¹⁵And Pharao heard of this word and sought to kill Moses: but he fled from his sight, and abode in the land of Madian, and he sat down by a well.
¹⁶米德楊的司祭有七個女兒，她們來打水，灌滿水槽，要飲父親的羊群。	¹⁶And the priest of Madian had seven daughters, who came to draw water: and when the troughs were filled, desired to water their father's flocks.
¹⁷別的牧童來了，趕走了她們；梅瑟便起來保護了她們，也飲了她們的羊。	¹⁷And the shepherds came and drove them away: and Moses arose, and defending the maids, watered their sheep.
¹⁸她們回到父親勒烏耳那裏，父親問她們說：「你們今天為什麼回來的這麼快？」	¹⁸And when they returned to Raguel their father, he said to them: Why are ye come sooner than usual?
¹⁹她們回答說：「有一個埃及人救我們擺脫了牧童的手，還給我們打水飲了羊群。」	¹⁹They answered: A man of Egypt delivered us from the hands of the shepherds: and he drew water also with us, and gave the sheep to drink.
²⁰他對女兒們說：「他在那裏？你們為什麼撇下他？去請他來吃飯！」	²⁰But he said: Where is he? why have you let the man go? call him that he may eat bread.
²¹於是梅瑟決定住在那人那裏，那人將自己的女兒漆頗辣給了梅瑟為妻。	²¹And Moses swore that he would dwell with him. And he took Sephora his daughter to wife:
²²她生了一個兒子，梅瑟給他起名叫革爾熊，因為他說：「我在外方作了旅客。」	²²And she bore him a son, whom he called Gersam, saying: I have been a stranger in a foreign country. And she bore another, whom he called Eliezer, saying: For the God of my father, my helper hath delivered me out of the hand of Pharao.
²³過了很久，埃及王死了。那時以色列子民由於勞苦工作，都嘆息哀號：他們因勞役所發出的求救聲，升到天主面前。	²³Now after a long time the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel groaning, cried out because of the works: and their cry went up unto God from the works.
²⁴天主聽見了他們的哀號，就記起了他與亞巴郎、依撒格和雅各伯所立的盟約。	²⁴And he heard their groaning, and remembered the covenant which he made with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
²⁵天主遂眷顧了以色列子民，特別垂念他們。	²⁵And the Lord looked upon the children of Israel, and he knew them.
