¹天主對雅各伯說：「起來，上貝特耳去，住在那裏，為你昔日逃避你哥哥厄撒烏在那裏顯現給你的天主，築一祭壇。」	¹In the meantime God said to Jacob: Arise, and go up to Bethel, and dwell there, and make there an altar to God, who appeared to thee when thou didst flee from Esau thy brother.
²雅各伯便對家人和跟隨他的人說：「你們應除去你們中間所有外邦的神像，並取潔，更換衣服，	²And Jacob having called together all his household, said: Cast away the strange gods that are among you, and be cleansed and change your garments.
³因為我們要起身上貝特耳去；在那裏我要給在我困苦的時日俯聽了我，在我所走的路上伴隨了我的天主，築一祭壇。」	³Arise, and let us go up to Bethel, that we may make there an altar to God: who heard me in the day of my affliction, and accompanied me in my journey.
⁴眾人便將自己手中所有外邦的神像，所有的耳環，都交給了雅各伯；雅各伯就都埋在那靠近舍根的橡樹底下。	⁴So they gave him all the strange gods they had, and the earrings which were in their ears: and he buried them under the turpentine tree, that is behind the city of Sichem.
⁵當他們起程出發時，天主叫周圍的城邑都非常恐怖，為此誰也不敢追趕雅各伯的兒子。	⁵And when they were departed, the terror of God fell upon all the cities round about, and they durst not pursue after them as they went away.
⁶這樣，雅各伯和與他在一起的人，來到客納罕地的路次，即貝特耳；	⁶And Jacob came to Luza, which is in the land of Chanaan, surnamed Bethel: he and all the people that were with him.
⁷他在那裏築了一座祭壇。稱呼那地方為貝特耳，因為他逃避他哥哥時，天主曾在那裏顯現給他。	⁷And he built there an altar, and called the name of that place, The house of God: for there God appeared to him when he fled from his brother.
⁸其時黎貝加的乳母德波辣死了，就埋在貝特耳下面的一株橡樹底下；為此給這橡樹起名叫「悲泣的橡樹」。	⁸At the same time Debora the nurse of Rebecca died, and was buried at the foot of Bethel under an oak: and the name of that place was called, The oak of weeping.
⁹雅各伯由帕丹阿蘭回來後，天主又顯現給他，再祝福他。	⁹And God appeared again to Jacob, after he returned from Mesopotamia of Syria, and he blessed him,
¹⁰天主對他說：「你原叫雅各伯，但以後不再叫作雅各伯，卻要叫作以色列。」遂給他改名以色列。	¹⁰Saying: Thou shalt not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name. And he called him Israel.
¹¹天主又對他說：「我是全能的天主，你要生育繁殖；不但一個民族，而是一些民族要由你而生，許多君王要由你而生。	¹¹And said to him: I am God Almighty, increase thou and be multiplied. Nations and peoples of nations shall be from thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins.
¹²我將賜給了亞巴郎和依撒格的土地賜給你；我也將這土地賜給你未來的後裔。」	¹²And the land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give to thee, and to thy seed after thee.
¹³然後天主就在與他談話的地方，離開他，上升去了。	¹³And he departed from him.
¹⁴雅各伯在天主與他談話地方，豎立了一根柱子，一根石柱；在上面行了奠祭，倒上油。	¹⁴But he set up a monument of stone, in the place where God had spoken to him: pouring drink offerings upon it, and pouring oil thereon:
¹⁵雅各伯給天主與他談話的地方起名叫貝特耳。	¹⁵And calling the name of that place Bethel.
¹⁶他們由貝特耳起程出發，離厄弗辣大還有一段路程時，辣黑耳要生產，感覺難產。	¹⁶And going forth from thence, he came in the springtime to the land which leadeth to Ephrata: wherein when Rachel was in travail,
¹⁷正當難產之際，收生婆對她說：「不要怕，你這次還是生個男孩。」	¹⁷By reason of her hard labour she began to be in danger, and the midwife said to her: Fear not, for thou shalt have this son also.
¹⁸辣黑耳將要斷氣快死的時候，給他起名叫本敖尼；但他的父親卻叫他本雅明。	¹⁸And when her soul was departing for pain, and death was now at hand, she called the name of her son Benoni, that is, The son of my pain: but his father called him Benjamin, that is, The son of the right hand.
¹⁹辣黑耳死了，葬在去厄弗辣大，即白冷的路旁。	¹⁹So Rachel died, and was buried in the highway that leadeth to Ephrata, this is Bethlehem.
²⁰雅各伯在她墳上立了一塊碑；這塊辣黑耳墳上的碑，至今尚存。	²⁰And Jacob erected a pillar over her sepulchre: this is the pillar of Rachel's monument, to this day.
²¹以色列又起程前行，在米革達耳厄德爾的那一面支搭了帳幕。	²¹Departing thence, he pitched his tent beyond the Flock tower.
²²以色列住在那地時，勒烏本竟去與他父親的妾彼耳哈同睡；以色列後來聞知了此事。	²²And when he dwelt in that country, Ruben went, and slept with Bala, the concubine of his father: which he was not ignorant of. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.
²³雅各伯的兒子共計十二人。肋阿的兒子：雅各伯的長子勒烏本、西默盎、肋未、猶大、依撒加爾和則步隆。	²³The sons of Lia: Ruben the first born, and Simeon, and Levi, and Juda, and Issachar, and Zabulon.
²⁴辣黑耳的兒子：若瑟和本雅明。	²⁴The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.
²⁵辣黑耳的婢女彼耳哈的兒子：丹和納斐塔里。	²⁵The sons of Bala, Rachel's handmaid: Dan and Nephtali.
²⁶肋阿的婢女齊耳帕的兒子：加得和阿協爾：這些都是雅各伯在帕丹阿蘭生的兒子。	²⁶The sons of Zelpha, Lia's handmaid: Gad and Aser: these are the sons of Jacob, that were born to him in Mesopotamia of Syria.
²⁷雅各伯來到了克黎雅特阿爾巴，即赫貝龍的瑪默勒他父親依撒格那裏，即亞巴郎和依撒格曾寄居過的地方。	²⁷And he came to Isaac his father in Mambre, the city of Arbee, this is Hebron: wherein Abraham and Isaac sojourned.
²⁸依撒格享壽一百八十歲。	²⁸And the days of Isaac were a hundred and eighty years.
²⁹他年高老邁，已享天年，遂斷氣而死，歸到他親族那裏去了；他的兒子厄撒烏和雅各伯將他埋葬了。	²⁹And being spent with age he died, and was gathered to his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
