¹天主及主耶穌基督的僕人雅各伯，祝散居的十二支派安好。	¹James the servant of God, and of our Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
²我的弟兄們，幾時你們落在各種試探裏，要認為是大喜樂，	²My brethren, count it all joy, when you shall fall into divers temptations;
³因為你們應知道：你們的信德受過考驗，纔能生出堅忍。	³Knowing that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
⁴但這堅忍又必須有完美的實行，好使你們既成全而又完備，毫無缺欠。	⁴And patience hath a perfect work; that you may be perfect and entire, failing in nothing.
⁵你們中誰若缺乏智慧，就該向那慷慨施恩於眾人，而從不責斥的天主祈求，天主必賜給他。	⁵But if any of you want wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all men abundantly, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
⁶不過，祈求時要有信心，決不可懷疑，因為懷疑的人，就像海裏的波濤，被風吹動，翻騰不已。	⁶But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea, which is moved and carried about by the wind.
⁷這樣的人，不要妄想從主那裏得到什麼。	⁷Therefore let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
⁸三心兩意的人，在他一切的行徑上，易變無定。	⁸A double minded man is inconstant in all his ways.
⁹貧賤的弟兄，要因高升而誇耀；	⁹But let the brother of low condition glory in his exaltation:
¹⁰富有的，卻要因自卑而誇耀，因為他要過去，如同草上的花一樣：	¹⁰And the rich, in his being low; because as the flower of the grass shall he pass away.
¹¹太陽一出來，帶着熱風，將草曬枯，它的花便凋謝了，它的美麗也消失了；富有的人在自己的行為上，也要這樣衰落。	¹¹For the sun rose with a burning heat, and parched the grass, and the flower thereof fell off, and the beauty of the shape thereof perished: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
¹²忍受試探的人是有福的，因為他既經得起考驗，必能得到主向愛他的人，所預許的生命之冠。	¹²Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he hath been proved, he shall receive a crown of life, which God hath promised to them that love him.
¹³人受誘惑，不可說：「我為天主所誘惑」，因為天主不會為惡事所誘惑，他也不誘惑人。	¹³Let no man, when he is tempted, say that he is tempted by God. For God is not a tempter of evils, and he tempteth no man.
¹⁴每個人受誘惑，都是為自己的私慾所勾引，所餌誘；	¹⁴But every man is tempted by his own concupiscence, being drawn away and allured.
¹⁵然後，私慾懷孕，便產生罪惡；罪惡完成之後，遂生出死亡來。	¹⁵Then when concupiscence hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin. But sin, when it is completed, begetteth death.
¹⁶我親愛的弟兄們，你們切不要錯誤！	¹⁶Do not err, therefore, my dearest brethren.
¹⁷一切美好的贈與，一切完善的恩賜，都是從上，從光明之父降下來的，在他內沒有變化或轉動的陰影。	¹⁷Every best gift, and every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no change, nor shadow of alteration.
¹⁸他自願用真理之言生了我們，為使我們成為他所造之物中的初果。	¹⁸For of his own will hath he begotten us by the word of truth, that we might be some beginning of his creatures.
¹⁹我親愛的弟兄們，你們要知道：每人都該敏於聽教，遲於發言，遲於動怒，	¹⁹You know, my dearest brethren. And let every man be swift to hear, but slow to speak, and slow to anger.
²⁰因為人的忿怒，並不成全天主的正義。	²⁰For the anger of man worketh not the justice of God.
²¹因此，你們要脫去一切不潔和種種惡習，而以柔順之心，接受那種在你們心裏，而能救你們靈魂的聖言。	²¹Wherefore casting away all uncleanness, and abundance of naughtiness, with meekness receive the ingrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
²²不過，你們應按這聖言來實行，不要只聽，自己欺騙自己；	²²But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
²³因為，誰若只聽聖言而不去實行，他就像一個人，對着鏡子照自己生來的面貌，	²³For if a man be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he shall be compared to a man beholding his own countenance in a glass.
²⁴照完以後，就離去，遂即忘卻了自己是什麼樣子。	²⁴For he beheld himself, and went his way, and presently forgot what manner of man he was.
²⁵至於那細察賜予自由的完美法律，而又保持不變，不隨聽隨忘，卻實際力行的，這人因他的作為必是有福的。	²⁵But he that hath looked into the perfect law of liberty, and hath continued therein, not becoming a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work; this man shall be blessed in his deed.
²⁶誰若自以為虔誠，卻不箝制自己的唇舌，反而欺騙自己的心，這人的虔誠便是虛假的。	²⁶And if any man think himself to be religious, not bridling his tongue, but deceiving his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
²⁷在天主父前，純正無瑕的虔誠，就是看顧患難中的孤兒和寡婦，保持自己不受世俗的玷污。	²⁷Religion clean and undefiled before God and the Father, is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their tribulation: and to keep one's self unspotted from this world.
