| 1納阿瑪人左法爾答覆說： | 1Then Sophar the Naamathite answered, and said: |
| 2因我的思潮起伏，叫我答覆，為此我內心十分急躁。 | 2Therefore various thoughts succeed one another in me, and my mind is hurried away to different things. |
| 3斥責辱罵我的話，我已聽到，我的理智催迫我答覆。 | 3The doctrine with which thou reprovest me, I will hear, and the spirit of my understanding shall answer for me. |
| 4你豈不知道，自古以來，自從世上有人以來， | 4This I know from the beginning, since man was placed upon the earth, |
| 5惡人的歡欣決不久長，無神者的喜樂瞬息即逝？ | 5That the praise of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment. |
| 6他的驕傲雖高頂蒼天，他的頭雖插入青雲， | 6If his pride mount up even to heaven, and his head touch the clouds: |
| 7但他必像幻像，永歸無有；見過他的人必說：「他那裏去了？」 | 7In the end he shall be destroyed like a dunghill, and they that has seen him shall say: Where is he? |
| 8他又像夢境消散，無蹟可尋；又像夜夢，消失無蹤。 | 8As a dream that fleeth away he shall not be found, he shall pass as a vision of the night: |
| 9見過他的眼，再也見不到他；他的住所，再也不認識他。 | 9The eyes that had seen him, shall see him no more, neither shall his place any more behold him. |
| 10他的兒子要賠償窮人的損害，他要親手把財物交還。 | 10His children shall be oppressed with want, and his hands shall render him his sorrow. |
| 11他的骨骸雖富有魄力，但要同他一起埋於塵埃。 | 11His bones shall be filled with the vices of his youth, and they shall sleep with him in the dust. |
| 12邪惡在他口中雖覺甘甜，藏在他的舌下， | 12For when evil shall be sweet in his mouth, he will hide it under his tongue. |
| 13他雖愛惜不捨，久久含在口中； | 13He will spare it, and not leave it, and will hide it in his throat. |
| 14但那食物在他腹中要起變化，在他五內要變成蛇的毒汁。 | 14His bread in his belly shall be turned into the gall of asps within him. |
| 15他併吞的財富，必要吐出，天主必使之由他腹中嘔出。 | 15The riches which he hath swallowed; he shall vomit up, and God shall draw them out of his belly. |
| 16他原吸入了蛇的毒汁，毒蛇的舌頭必將他殺死。 | 16He shall suck the head of asps, and the viper's tongue shall kill him. |
| 17他不得觀賞油流如溪，也看不到那流蜜流奶的小河。 | 17(Let him not see the streams of the river, the brooks of honey and of butter.) |
| 18他勞力之所得，應該退還，不得吞下；賺來的財富，不得享用。 | 18He shall be punished for all that he did, and yet shall not be consumed: according to the multitude of his devices so also shall he suffer. |
| 19因為他壓搾了窮人，使他們無依；強佔了人家的房屋，不得再建。 | 19Because he broke in and stripped the poor: he hath violently taken away a house which he did not build. |
| 20因為他口腹之慾總不知足，他所喜愛之物，也救不了他。 | 20And yet his belly was not filled: and when he hath the things he coveted, he shall not be able to possess them. |
| 21沒有什麼能逃脫他的吞噬，他的幸福決不久長。 | 21There was nothing left of his meat, and therefore nothing shall continue of his goods: |
| 22他財產富足時，卻不免拮据，各種的困苦齊集他身。 | 22When he shall be filled, he shall be straitened, he shall burn, and every sorrow shall fall upon him. |
| 23當他肚腹飽滿時，天主的怒火突然降到，箭如雨點射在他身上。 | 23May his belly be filled, that God may send forth the wrath of his indignation upon him, and rain down his war upon him. |
| 24他逃避過鐵器，銅矢必將他射穿。 | 24He shall flee from weapons of iron, and shall fall upon a bow of brass. |
| 25一箭由他的脊背穿透，光亮的箭矢由他的膽囊穿出，死亡的恐怖已落在他身上。 | 25The sword is drawn out, and cometh forth from its scabbard, and glittereth in his bitterness: the terrible ones shall go and come upon him. |
| 26層層黑暗留作他的寶藏，非人燃起的火要焚燒他，吞盡留在他帳幕的人。 | 26All darkness is hid in his secret places: a fire that is not kindled shall devour him, he shall be afflicted when left in his tabernacle. |
| 27天要彰顯他的罪惡，地也起來攻擊他。 | 27The heavens shall reveal his iniquity, and the earth shall rise up against him. |
| 28洪水沖走他的住宅，在天主義怒之日要全被沖去。 | 28The offspring of his house shall be exposed, he shall be pulled down in the day of God's wrath. |
| 29這是惡人由天主所應得的一份，是天主為他所註定的產業。 | 29This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the inheritance of his doings from the Lord. |
