¹你豈知道巖穴中野羊的產期，洞悉牝鹿何時生產？	¹Knowest thou the time when the wild goats bring forth among the rocks, or hast thou observed the hinds when they fawn?
²你豈能計算牠們懷孕的月分，預知牠們生產的日期？	²Hast thou numbered the months of their conceiving, or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?
³牠們伏下產子之後，產痛立即過去。	³They bow themselves to bring forth young, and they cast them, and send forth roarings.
⁴幼雛健壯，在原野中長大；牠們一去，即不再返回。	⁴Their young are weaned and go to feed: they go forth, and return not to them.
⁵誰使野驢任意遊蕩，誰解去悍驢的韁繩？	⁵Who hath sent out the wild ass free, and who hath loosed his bonds?
⁶原來是我叫牠以原野為家，以鹽地為居所。	⁶To whom I have given a house in the wilderness, and his dwellings in the barren land.
⁷牠恥笑城市的吵鬧，聽不到趕牲者的呵叱。	⁷He scorneth the multitude of the city, he heareth not the cry of the driver.
⁸牠以群山峻嶺作自己的牧場，尋覓各種青草為食。	⁸He looketh round about the mountains of his pasture, and seeketh for every green thing.
⁹野牛豈肯為你服役，豈肯在你槽邊過宿？	⁹Shall the rhinoceros be willing to serve thee, or will he stay at thy crib?
¹⁰你豈能以繩索繫住牠的頸項，叫牠隨你耕田？	¹⁰Canst thou bind the rhinoceros with thy thong to plough, or will he break the clods of the valleys after thee?
¹¹你豈能依靠牠的大力，任憑牠去作你的工作？	¹¹Wilt thou have confidence in his great strength, and leave thy labours to him?
¹²你豈能靠牠將麥捆運回，聚集在你的禾場上？	¹²Wilt thou trust him that he will render thee the seed, and gather it into thy barnfloor?
¹³駝鳥的翅翼鼓舞，牠的翼翎和羽毛豈表示慈愛？	¹³The wing of the ostrich is like the wings of the heron, and of the hawk.
¹⁴牠將卵留在地上，讓沙土去溫暖；	¹⁴When she leaveth her eggs on the earth, thou perhaps wilt warm them in the dust.
¹⁵牠不想人腳能踏碎，野獸能踐壞。	¹⁵She forgetteth that the foot may tread upon them, or that the beasts of the field may break them.
¹⁶牠苛待雛鳥，若非己出，雖徒受苦痛，也毫不關心。	¹⁶She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers, she hath laboured in vain, no fear constraining her.
¹⁷因為天主沒有賜牠這本能，也沒有把良知賜給牠。	¹⁷For God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he given her understanding.
¹⁸但當牠振翼飛翔，卻要訕笑駿馬和騎師。	¹⁸When time shall be, she setteth up her wings on high: she scorneth the horse and his rider.
¹⁹馬的力量，是你所賜？牠頸上的長騣，是你所披？	¹⁹Wilt thou give strength to the horse, or clothe his neck with neighing?
²⁰你豈能使牠跳躍如蚱蜢？牠雄壯的長嘶，實在使人膽寒。	²⁰Wilt thou lift him up like the locusts? the glory of his nostrils is terror.
²¹牠在谷中歡躍奔馳，勇往直前，衝鋒迎敵。	²¹He breaketh up the earth with his hoof, he pranceth boldly, he goeth forward to meet armed men.
²²牠嗤笑膽怯，一無所懼；交鋒之時，決不退縮。	²²He despiseth fear, he turneth not his back to the sword,
²³牠背上的箭袋震震作響，還有閃爍發光的矛與槍。	²³Above him shall the quiver rattle, the spear and shield shall glitter.
²⁴牠一聞號角，即不肯停蹄，急躁狂怒，不斷啃地。	²⁴Chasing and raging he swalloweth the ground, neither doth he make account when the noise of the trumpet soundeth.
²⁵每次號角一鳴，牠必發出嘶聲，由遠處已聞到戰爭的氣息，將領的號令和士卒的喊聲。	²⁵When he heareth the trumpet he saith: Ha, ha: he smelleth the battle afar off, the encouraging of the captains, and the shouting of the army.
²⁶鷹展翅振翼南飛，豈是由於你的智慧？	²⁶Doth the hawk wax feathered by thy wisdom, spreading her wings to the south?
²⁷兀鷹騰空，營巢峭壁，豈是出於你的命令？	²⁷Will the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest in high places?
²⁸牠在山崖居住過宿，在峭峰上有牠的保障；	²⁸She abideth among the rocks, and dwelleth among cragged flints, and stony hills, where there is no access.
²⁹由那裏窺伺獵物，牠的眼力可達遠處。	²⁹From thence she looketh for the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.
³⁰牠的幼雛也都吮血。那裏有屍體，牠也在那裏。	³⁰Her young ones shall suck up blood: and wheresoever the carcass shall be, she is immediately there.
³¹	³¹And the Lord went on, and said to Job:
³²	³²Shall he that contendeth with God be so easily silenced? surely he that reproveth God, ought to answer him.
³³	³³Then Job answered the Lord, and said:
³⁴	³⁴What can I answer, who hath spoken inconsiderately? I will lay my hand upon my mouth.
³⁵	³⁵One thing I have spoken, which I wish I had not said: and another, to which I will add no more.
