| 1特曼人厄里法次開始說： | 1Then Eliphaz the Themanite answered, and said: |
| 2人若和你講話，你能忍受嗎？但誰又能忍住不說？ | 2If we begin to speak to thee, perhaps thou wilt take it ill, but who can withhold the words he hath conceived? |
| 3看，你曾勸戒過許多人，堅固過軟弱無能的人； | 3Behold thou hast taught many, and thou hast strengthened the weary hands: |
| 4你的話扶起了跌倒的人，堅固了膝弱無力的人； | 4Thy words have confirmed them that were staggering, and thou hast strengthened the trembling knees: |
| 5但是現今災禍一臨於你，你就萎靡不振；一接觸你，你就沮喪失意。 | 5But now the scourge is come upon thee, and thou faintest: it hath touched thee, and thou art troubled. |
| 6你敬畏天主之情，豈不是你的依靠？你完善的行為，豈不是你的希望？ | 6Where is thy fear, thy fortitude, thy patience, and the perfection of thy ways? |
| 7請想：那有無辜者喪亡？那有正直者消逝？ | 7Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished being innocent? or when were the just destroyed? |
| 8照我所見：那播種邪惡的，必收邪惡；散佈毒害的，必收毒害。 | 8On the contrary I have seen those who work iniquity, and sow sorrows, and reap them, |
| 9天主一噓氣，他們即滅亡；一發怒氣，他們即消失。 | 9Perishing by the blast of God, and consumed by the spirit of his wrath. |
| 10獅吼豹嗥完全止息，幼獅的牙齒也被打碎； | 10The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the lioness, and the teeth of the whelps of lions are broken: |
| 11壯獅因缺獵物而滅絕，牝獅幼子各自東西離散。 | 11The tiger hath perished for want of prey, and the young lions are scattered abroad. |
| 12我竊聽到一句話，我耳聽見細語聲。 | 12Now there was a word spoken to me in private, and my ears by stealth as it were received the veins of its whisper. |
| 13當人沉睡時，夜夢多幻象； | 13In the horror of a vision by night, when deep sleep is wont to hold men, |
| 14我恐怖戰慄，全身骨頭發抖。 | 14Fear seized upon me, and trembling, and all my bones were affrighted: |
| 15寒風掠過我面，使我毛髮悚然。 | 15And when a spirit passed before me, the hair of my flesh stood up. |
| 16他停立不動，但我不能辨其形狀；我面前出現形影，我聽見細微的聲音： | 16There stood one whose countenance I knew not, an image before my eyes, and I heard the voice as it were of a gentle wind: |
| 17人豈能在天主前自以為義？在造他者前，自以為潔？ | 17Shall man be justified in comparison of God, or shall a man be more pure than his maker? |
| 18看，他的僕役，他還不信；他的使者，他還歸罪， | 18Behold they that serve him are not steadfast, and in his angels he found wickedness: |
| 19何況那以泥屋為居所，以塵土為基礎的人！他們為人踐踏，有如蠹蟲； | 19How much more shall they that dwell in houses of clay, who have an earthly foundation, be consumed as with the moth? |
| 20晨昏間即化為齏粉，永遠消亡而無人一顧。 | 20From morning till evening they shall be cut down: and because no one understandeth, they shall perish for ever. |
| 21幕索如已自斷，他們豈不是因缺少智慧而死亡？ | 21And they that shall be left, shall be taken away from them: they shall die, and not in wisdom. |
