約伯傳	Job
¹約伯答覆說：	¹And Job answered, and said:
²我確實知道事情是這樣，但人怎能同天主講理？	²Indeed I know it is so, and that man cannot be justified compared with God.
³人若願意同天主辯論，千個問題中，誰也回答不出一個。	³If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one for a thousand.
⁴雖心中明智，力量強大，但誰能對抗天主，而保平安？	⁴He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath resisted him, and hath had peace?
⁵他可移山，山卻不知；他一發怒，山即翻轉；	⁵Who hath removed mountains, and they whom he overthrew in his wrath, knew it not.
⁶他振搖大地，使之脫離原處，地柱隨之搖撼震動；	⁶Who shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.
⁷他一下令，太陽即不昇起，星辰即封閉不動；	⁷Who commandeth tile sun and it riseth not: and shutteth up the stars as it were under a seal:
⁸惟有他展開天空，步行海波之上；	⁸Who alone spreadeth out the heavens, and walketh upon the waves of the sea.
⁹他創造了北斗和參宿，昴星及南極星辰；	⁹Who maketh Arcturus, and Orion, and Hyades, and the inner parts of the south.
¹⁰他所作的大事，不可勝數。	¹⁰Who doth things great and incomprehensible, and wonderful, of which there is no number.
¹¹他由我身旁經過，我卻沒有看見；他走過去，我仍沒有發覺。	¹¹If he come to me, I shall not see him: if he depart I shall not understand.
¹²他若搶奪，誰能阻擋？誰能問他說：「你作什麼？」	¹²If he examine on a sudden, who shall answer him? or who can say: Why dost thou so?
¹³天主一憤怒，決不收回。為老虎作倀的，必屈伏在他以下。	¹³God, whose wrath no man can resist, and under whom they stoop that bear up the world.
¹⁴如此我怎敢回答，我怎敢措辭與他抗辯？	¹⁴What am I then, that I should answer him, and have words with him?
¹⁵縱然有理，也不敢回答，惟有哀求我的判官開恩。	¹⁵I, who although I should have any just thing, would not answer, but would make supplication to my judge.
¹⁶我向他呼求，縱然他答應我，我仍不相信他會聽我的呼聲。	¹⁶And if he should hear me when I call, I should not believe that he had heard my voice.
¹⁷他為了一根頭髮而折磨我，無故增加我的創傷；	¹⁷For he shall crush me in a whirlwind, and multiply my wounds even without cause.
¹⁸致使我不能喘一口氣，使我飽嘗苦辛。	¹⁸He alloweth not my spirit to rest, and he filleth me with bitterness.
¹⁹論力量，他強而有力；論審判，誰能將他傳來？	¹⁹If strength be demanded, he is most strong: if equity of judgment, no man dare bear witness for me.
²⁰我雖自以為正義，他的口卻判定我有罪；我雖自覺無辜，他卻證明我有偏差。	²⁰If I would justify myself, my own mouth shall condemn me: if I would shew myself innocent, he shall prove me wicked.
²¹我是無辜的，我已不顧及我的生命，我已厭惡生活下去。	²¹Although I should be simple, even this my soul shall be ignorant of, and I shall be weary of my life.
²²因此我說：都是一樣。善人惡人，他一概滅絕。	²²One thing there is that I have spoken, both the innocent and the wicked he consumeth.
²³若天災突然降下使人猝死，他便嘲笑無罪者的絕望。	²³If he scourge, let him kill at once, and not laugh at the pains of the innocent.
²⁴大地落在惡人的手裏，蒙蔽判官臉面的，不是他是誰呢？	²⁴The earth is given into the hand of the wicked, he covereth the face of the judges thereof: and if it be not he, who is it then?
²⁵我的日月過去比跑信的還快；疾走而過，無福樂可享。	²⁵My days have been swifter than a post: they have fled away and have not seen good.
²⁶急急駛過，似蘆葦船，如驟降攫食的鷹。	²⁶They have passed by as ships carrying fruits, as an eagle flying to the prey.
²⁷我若決意忘掉我的哀怨，改變愁容，表示愉快；	²⁷If I say: I will not speak so: I change my face, and am tormented with sorrow.
²⁸但一想到我的痛苦，我就恐怖。我知道你決不以我為無辜。	²⁸I feared all my works, knowing that thou didst not spare the offender.
²⁹我若是有罪，又何苦白費心血？	²⁹But if so also I am wicked, why have I laboured in vain?
³⁰我即便用雪洗我身，用鹼水洗我手，	³⁰If I be washed as it were with snow waters, and my hands shall shine ever so clean:
³¹你卻把我浸在泥坑內，甚至我的衣服都憎惡我。	³¹Yet thou shalt plunge me in filth, and my garments shall abhor me,
³²因為他不像我是個人，使我能答覆他，或讓我們同去聽審。	³²For I shall not answer a man that is like myself: nor one that may be heard with me equally in judgment.
³³在我們中間沒有仲裁，可按手在我們兩造之間。	³³There is none that may be able to reprove both, and to put his hand between both.
³⁴但願他的棍杖遠離我，他的威嚴不要恐嚇我，	³⁴Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me.
³⁵我好能講話而不害怕；但是如今我並非如此。	³⁵I will speak, and will not fear him: for I cannot answer while I am in fear.
