| 1在起初已有聖言，聖言與天主同在，聖言就是天主。 | 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. |
| 2聖言在起初就與天主同在。 | 2The same was in the beginning with God. |
| 3萬物是藉着他而造成的；凡受造的，沒有一樣不是由他而造成 的。 | 3All things were made by him: and without him was made nothing that was made. |
| 4在他內有生命，這生命是人的光。 | 4In him was life, and the life was the light of men. |
| 5光在黑暗中照耀，黑暗決不能勝過他。 | 5And the light shineth in darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. |
| 6曾有一人，由天主派遣來的，名叫若翰。 | 6There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. |
| 7這人來，是為作證，為給光作證，為使眾人藉他而信。 | 7This man came for a witness, to give testimony of the light, that all men might believe through him. |
| 8他不是那光，只是為給那光作證。 | 8He was not the light, but was to give testimony of the light. |
| 9那普照每人的真光，正在進入這世界； | 9That was the true light, which enlighteneth every man that cometh into this world. |
| 10他已在世界上，世界原是藉着他造成的；但世界卻不認識他。 | 10He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. |
| 11他來到了自己的領域，自己的人卻沒有接受他。 | 11He came unto his own, and his own received him not. |
| 12但是，凡接受他的，他給他們，即給那些信他的名字的人權能，好成為天主的子女。 | 12But as many as received him, he gave them power to be made the sons of God, to them that believe in his name. |
| 13他們不是由血氣，也不是由肉慾，也不是由男慾，而是由天主生的。 | 13Who are born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. |
| 14於是，聖言成了血肉，寄居在我們中間；我們見了他的光榮，正如父獨生者的光榮，滿溢恩寵和真理。 | 14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we saw his glory, the glory as it were of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. |
| 15若翰為他作證呼喊說：「這就是我所說的：那在我以後來的，成了在我以前的，因他原先我而有。」 | 15John beareth witness of him, and crieth out, saying: This was he of whom I spoke: He that shall come after me, is preferred before me: because he was before me. |
| 16從他的滿盈中，我們都領受了恩寵，而且恩寵上加恩寵。 | 16And of his fulness we all have received, and grace for grace. |
| 17因為法律是藉梅瑟傳授的，恩寵和真理卻是由耶穌基督而來的。 | 17For the law was given by Moses; grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. |
| 18從來沒有人見過天主，只有那在父懷裏的獨生者，身為天主的，他給我們詳述了。 | 18No man hath seen God at any time: the only begotten Son who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. |
| 19這是若翰所作的見證：當時，猶太人從耶路撒冷派遣了司祭和肋未人，到他那裏問他說：「你是誰？」 | 19And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent from Jerusalem priests and Levites to him, to ask him: Who art thou? |
| 20他明明承認，並沒有否認；他明認說：「我不是默西亞。」 | 20And he confessed, and did not deny: and he confessed: I am not the Christ. |
| 21他們又問他說：「那麼你是誰？你是厄里亞嗎？」他說：「我不是。」「你是那位先知嗎？」他回答說：「不是。」 | 21And they asked him: What then? Art thou Elias? And he said: I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered: No. |
| 22於是他們問他說：「你究竟是誰？好叫我們給那派遣我們來的人一個答覆。關於你自己，你說什麼呢？」 | 22They said therefore unto him: Who art thou, that we may give an answer to them that sent us? What sayest thou of thyself? |
| 23他說：「我是在曠裏呼喊者的聲音：修直上主的道路罷！正如依撒意亞先知所說的。」 | 23He said: I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Isaias. |
| 24被派遣來的有些是法利塞人。 | 24And they that were sent, were of the Pharisees. |
| 25他們又問他說：「你既不是默西亞，又不是厄里亞，也不是那位先知，那麼，你為什麼施洗呢？」 | 25And they asked him, and said to him: Why then dost thou baptize, if thou be not Christ, nor Elias, nor the prophet? |
| 26若翰答覆他們說：「我以水施洗，你們中間站着一位，是你們所不認識的； | 26John answered them, saying: I baptize with water; but there hath stood one in the midst of you, whom you know not. |
| 27他在我以後來，我卻當不起解他的鞋帶。」 | 27The same is he that shall come after me, who is preferred before me: the latchet of whose shoe I am not worthy to loose. |
| 28這些事發生於約但河對岸的伯達尼，若翰施洗的地方。 | 28These things were done in Bethania, beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing. |
| 29第二天，若翰見耶穌向他走來，便說：「看，天主的羔羊，除免世罪者！ | 29The next day, John saw Jesus coming to him, and he saith: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who taketh away the sin of the world. |
| 30這位就是我論他曾說過：有一個人在我以後來，成了在我以前的，因他原先我而有。 | 30This is he, of whom I said: After me there cometh a man, who is preferred before me: because he was before me. |
| 31連我也不曾認識他，但為使他顯示於以色列，為此，我來以水施洗。」 | 31And I knew him not, but that he may be made manifest in Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. |
| 32若翰又作證說：「我看見聖神彷彿鴿子從天降下，停在他身上。 | 32And John gave testimony, saying: I saw the Spirit coming down, as a dove from heaven, and he remained upon him. |
| 33我也不曾認識他，但那派遣我來以水施洗的，給我說：你看見聖神降下，停在誰身上，誰就是那要以聖神施洗的人。 | 33And I knew him not; but he who sent me to baptize with water, said to me: He upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining upon him, he it is that baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. |
| 34我看見了，我便作證：他就是天主子。」 | 34And I saw, and I gave testimony, that this is the Son of God. |
| 35第二天，若翰和他的兩個門徒，又在那裏站着， | 35The next day again John stood, and two of his disciples. |
| 36若翰看見耶穌走過，便注視着他說：「看，天主的羔羊！」 | 36And beholding Jesus walking, he saith: Behold the Lamb of God. |
| 37那兩個門徒聽見他說這話，便跟隨了耶穌。 | 37And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. |
| 38耶穌轉過身來，看見他們跟着，便問他們說：「你們找什麼？」他們回答說：「辣彼！──意即師傅──你住在那裏？」 | 38And Jesus turning, and seeing them following him, saith to them: What seek you? Who said to him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou? |
| 39他向他們說：「你們來看看罷！」他們於是去了，看了他住的地方；並且那一天就在他那裏住下了。那時，大約是第十時辰。 | 39He saith to them: Come and see. They came, and saw where he abode, and they stayed with him that day: now it was about the tenth hour. |
| 40西滿伯多祿的哥哥安德肋，就是聽了若翰的話，而跟隨了耶穌的那兩人中的一個， | 40And Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who had heard of John, and followed him. |
| 41先去找到了自己的弟弟西滿，並向他說：「我們找到了默西亞」──意即基督。 | 41He findeth first his brother Simon, and saith to him: We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. |
| 42遂領他到耶穌跟前，耶穌注視着他說：「你是若望的兒子西滿，你要叫『刻法』」──意即伯多祿。 | 42And he brought him to Jesus. And Jesus looking upon him, said: Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is interpreted Peter. |
| 43第二天，耶穌願意往加里肋亞去，遇到了斐理伯，耶穌便向他說：「你跟隨我罷！」 | 43On the following day, he would go forth into Galilee, and he findeth Philip. And Jesus saith to him: Follow me. |
| 44斐理伯是貝特賽達人，與安德肋和伯多祿同城。 | 44Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. |
| 45斐理伯遇到納塔乃耳，就向他說：「梅瑟在法律上所記載，和先知們所預報的，我們找着了，就是若瑟的兒子，出身於納匝肋的耶穌。」 | 45Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith to him: We have found him of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets did write, Jesus the son of Joseph of Nazareth. |
| 46納塔乃耳便向他說：「從納匝肋還能出什麼好事嗎？」斐理伯向他說：「你來看一看罷！」 | 46And Nathanael said to him: Can any thing of good come from Nazareth? Philip saith to him: Come and see. |
| 47耶穌看見納塔乃耳向自己走來，就指着他說：「看，這確是一個以色列人，在他內毫無詭詐。」 | 47Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him: and he saith of him: Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no guile. |
| 48納塔乃耳給他說：「你從那裏認識我呢？」耶穌回答說：「斐理伯叫你以前，當你還在無花果樹下時，我就看見了你。」 | 48Nathanael saith to him: Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered, and said to him: Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. |
| 49納塔乃耳回答說：「辣彼！你是天主子，你是以色列的君王。」 | 49Nathanael answered him, and said: Rabbi, thou art the Son of God, thou art the King of Israel. |
| 50耶穌遂說道：「因為我向你說：我看見了你在無花果樹下，你就信了嗎？你要看見比這更大的事！」 | 50Jesus answered, and said to him: Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, thou believest: greater things than these shalt thou see. |
| 51又向他說：「我實實在在告訴你們：你們要看見天開，天主的天使在人子身上，上去下來。」 | 51And he saith to him: Amen, amen I say to you, you shall see the heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man. |
