| 1這些事以後，耶穌周遊於加里肋亞，而不願周遊於猶太，因為猶太人要圖謀殺害他。 | 1After these things Jesus walked in Galilee; for he would not walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him. |
| 2那時，猶太人的慶節，帳棚節近了， | 2Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand. |
| 3他的弟兄於是對他說：「你離開這裏，往猶太去罷！好叫你的門徒也看見你所行的事， | 3And his brethren said to him: Pass from hence, and go into Judea; that thy disciples also may see thy works which thou dost. |
| 4因為沒有人願意顯揚自己，而在暗地裏行事的；你既然行這些事，就該將你自己顯示給世界。」 | 4For there is no man that doth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, manifest thyself to the world. |
| 5原來，連他的弟兄們也不相信他。 | 5For neither did his brethren believe in him. |
| 6耶穌回答說：「我的時候還沒有到，你們的時候卻常是現成的。 | 6Then Jesus said to them: My time is not yet come; but your time is always ready. |
| 7世界不會恨你們，卻是恨我，因為我指證它的行為是邪惡的。 | 7The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth: because I give testimony of it, that the works thereof are evil. |
| 8你們上去過節罷！我還不上去過這慶節，因為我的時候還沒有成熟。」 | 8Go you up to this festival day, but I go not up to this festival day: because my time is not accomplished. |
| 9他說了這些話後，仍留在加里肋亞。 | 9When he had said these things, he himself stayed in Galilee. |
| 10但他的弟兄們上去過節以後，他也去了，但不是明顯的，而是暗中去的。 | 10But after his brethren were gone up, then he also went up to the feast, not openly, but, as it were, in secret. |
| 11在慶節中，猶太人尋找他說：「那人在那裏呢？」 | 11The Jews therefore sought him on the festival day, and said: Where is he? |
| 12在群眾間對他發生了許多私議：有的說：「他是好人」；有的卻說：「不，他在煽惑民眾。」 | 12And there was much murmuring among the multitude concerning him. For some said: He is a good man. And others said: No, but he seduceth the people. |
| 13但是，因為都怕猶太人，誰也不敢公開地講論他。 | 13Yet no man spoke openly of him, for fear of the Jews. |
| 14慶節已過了一半，耶穌就上聖殿裏去施教。 | 14Now about the midst of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. |
| 15猶太人都驚訝說：「這人沒有進過學，怎麼通曉經書呢？」 | 15And the Jews wondered, saying: How doth this man know letters, having never learned? |
| 16耶穌回答他們說：「我的教訓不是我的，而是派遣我來者的。 | 16Jesus answered them, and said: My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. |
| 17誰若願意承行他的旨意，就會認出這教訓，是出於天主或是由我自己而講的。 | 17If any man do the will of him; he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. |
| 18由自己而講的，是尋求自己的光榮；但誰若尋求派遣他來者的光榮，他便是誠實的，在他內沒有不義。 | 18He that speaketh of himself, seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh the glory of him that sent him, he is true, and there is no injustice in him. |
| 19梅瑟不是曾給你們頒佈了法律嗎？但你們中卻沒有一人遵行法律；你們為什麼圖謀殺害我？」 | 19Did Moses not give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? |
| 20群眾回答說：「你附了魔；誰圖謀殺害你？」 | 20Why seek you to kill me? The multitude answered, and said: Thou hast a devil; who seeketh to kill thee? |
| 21耶穌回答說：「我作了一件事，你們就都奇怪。 | 21Jesus answered, and said to them: One work I have done; and you all wonder: |
| 22梅瑟曾給你們頒定了割損禮──其實並不是由梅瑟，而是由祖先開始的，因此，你們也在安息日給人行割損禮。 | 22Therefore, Moses gave you circumcision (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and on the sabbath day you circumcise a man. |
| 23若是在安息日，為滿全梅瑟的法律，人可受割損禮；那麼，為了我在安息日，使一個人完全恢復健康，你們就對我發怒麼？ | 23If a man receive circumcision on the sabbath day, that the law of Moses may not be broken; are you angry at me because I have healed the whole man on the sabbath day? |
| 24你們不要按照外表判斷，但要按照公義判斷。」 | 24Judge not according to the appearance, but judge just judgment. |
| 25於是，有幾個耶路撒冷人說：「這不是人們所要圖謀殺害的人嗎？ | 25Some therefore of Jerusalem said: Is not this he whom they seek to kill? |
| 26看，他放膽地講論，而沒有人對他說什麼，難道首長們也確認這人就是默西亞嗎？ | 26And behold, he speaketh openly, and they say nothing to him. Have the rulers known for a truth, that this is the Christ? |
| 27可是，我們知道這人是那裏的；然而，當默西亞來時，卻沒有人知道他是那裏的。」 | 27But we know this man, whence he is: but when the Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is. |
| 28於是耶穌在聖殿施教時，大聲喊說：「你們認識我，也知道我是那裏的；但我不是由我自己而來，而是那真實者派遣我來的，你們卻不認識他； | 28Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching, and saying: You both know me, and you know whence I am: and I am not come of myself; but he that sent me, is true, whom you know not. |
| 29我認識他，因為我是出於他，是他派遣了我。」 | 29I know him, because I am from him, and he hath sent me. |
| 30他們想捉往他，但沒有人向他下手，因為他的時辰還沒有到。 | 30They sought therefore to apprehend him: and no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come. |
| 31群眾中有許多人信了他，且說：「默西亞來時，難道會行比這人更多的奇蹟嗎？」 | 31But of the people many believed in him, and said: When the Christ cometh, shall he do more miracles, than these which this man doth? |
| 32法利塞人聽見群眾對耶穌這樣議論紛紛，司祭長和法利塞人便派遣差役去捉拿他。 | 32The Pharisees heard the people murmuring these things concerning him: and the rulers and Pharisees sent ministers to apprehend him. |
| 33於是耶穌說：「我和你們同在的時候不多了，我要回到派遣我來的那裏去。 | 33Jesus therefore said to them: Yet a little while I am with you: and then I go to him that sent me. |
| 34你們要找我，卻找不着；而我所在的地方，你們也不能去。」 | 34You shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither you cannot come. |
| 35猶太人便彼此說：「這人要往那裏去，我們找不着他呢？難道他要往散居在希臘民中的猶太人那裏去，教訓希臘人麼？ | 35The Jews therefore said among themselves: Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles? |
| 36他所說：『你們要找我，卻找不着；我所在的地方，你們也不能去』的這話，是什麼意思？」 | 36What is this saying that he hath said: You shall seek me, and shall not find me; and where I am, you cannot come? |
| 37在慶節末日最隆重的那一天，耶穌站着大聲喊說：「誰若渴，到我這裏來喝罷！ | 37And on the last, and great day of the festivity, Jesus stood and cried, saying: If any man thirst, let him come to me, and drink. |
| 38凡信從我的，就如經上說：從他的心中要流出活水的江河。」 | 38He that believeth in me, as the scripture saith, Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. |
| 39他說這話，是指那信仰他的人將要領受的聖神；聖神還沒有賜下，因為耶穌還沒有受到光榮。 | 39Now this he said of the Spirit which they should receive, who believed in him: for as yet the Spirit was not given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. |
| 40群眾中有些人聽了這些話，便說：「這人真是那位先知。」 | 40Of that multitude therefore, when they had heard these words of his, some said: This is the prophet indeed. |
| 41另有些人說：「這人是默西亞。」但也有人說：「難道默西亞能來自加里肋亞嗎？ | 41Others said: This is the Christ. But some said: Doth the Christ come out of Galilee? |
| 42經上不是說：默西亞要出自達味的後裔，來自達味出生的村莊白冷嗎？」 | 42Doth not the scripture say: That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem the town where David was? |
| 43因此，為了耶穌的緣故，在群眾中起了紛爭。 | 43So there arose a dissension among the people because of him. |
| 44他們中有些人願捉拿他，但誰也沒有向他下手。 | 44And some of them would have apprehended him: but no man laid hands on him. |
| 45差役回到司祭長和法利塞人那裏；司祭長和法利塞人問他們說：「為什麼你們沒有把他帶來？」 | 45The ministers therefore came to the chief priests and the Pharisees. And they said to them: Why have you not brought him? |
| 46差役回答說：「從來沒有一個人如此講話，像這人講話一樣。」 | 46The ministers answered: Never did man speak like this man. |
| 47法利塞人遂向他們說：「難道你們也受了煽惑嗎？ | 47The Pharisees therefore answered them: Are you also seduced? |
| 48首長中或法利塞人中，難道有人信仰了他嗎？ | 48Hath any one of the rulers believed in him, or of the Pharisees? |
| 49但是，這些不明白法律的群眾，是可詛咒的！」 | 49But this multitude, that knoweth not the law, are accursed. |
| 50他們中有一個，即先前曾來到耶穌那裏的尼苛德摩，遂向他們說： | 50Nicodemus said to them, (he that came to him by night, who was one of them:) |
| 51「如果不先聽取人的口供，和查明他所作的事，難道我們的法律就許定他的罪麼？」 | 51Doth our law judge any man, unless it first hear him, and know what he doth? |
| 52他們回答他說：「難道你也是出自加里肋亞麼？你去查考，你就能知道：從加里肋亞不會出先知的。」 | 52They answered, and said to him: Art thou also a Galilean? Search the scriptures, and see, that out of Galilee a prophet riseth not. |
| 53然後，他們就各自回家去了。 | 53And every man returned to his own house. |
