| 1耶穌上了橄欖山。 | 1And Jesus went unto mount Olivet. |
| 2清晨他又來到聖殿，眾百姓都到他跟前來，他便坐下教訓他們。 | 2And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him, and sitting down he taught them. |
| 3那時，經師和法利塞人帶來了一個犯姦淫時被捉住的婦人，叫她站在中間， | 3And the scribes and the Pharisees bring unto him a woman taken in adultery: and they set her in the midst, |
| 4便向耶穌說：「師傅！這婦人是正在犯姦淫時被捉住的， | 4And said to him: Master, this woman was even now taken in adultery. |
| 5在法律上，梅瑟命令我們該用石頭砸死這樣的婦人；可是，你說什麼呢？」 | 5Now Moses in the law commanded us to stone such a one. But what sayest thou? |
| 6他們說這話，是要試探耶穌，好能控告他；耶穌卻彎下身去，用指頭在地上畫字。 | 6And this they said tempting him, that they might accuse him. But Jesus bowing himself down, wrote with his finger on the ground. |
| 7因為他們不斷地追問，他便直起身來，向他們說：「你們中間誰沒有罪，先向她投石罷！」 | 7When therefore they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said to them: He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. |
| 8他又彎下身去，在地上寫字。 | 8And again stooping down, he wrote on the ground. |
| 9他們一聽這話，就從年老的開始到年幼的，一個一個地都溜走了，只留下耶穌一人和站在那裡的婦人。 | 9But they hearing this, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest. And Jesus alone remained, and the woman standing in the midst. |
| 10耶穌遂直起身來向她說：「婦人！他們在那裡呢？沒有人定你的罪嗎？」 | 10Then Jesus lifting up himself, said to her: Woman, where are they that accused thee? Hath no man condemned thee? |
| 11她說：「主！沒有人。」耶穌向她說：「我也不定你的罪；去罷！從今以後，不要再犯罪了！」 | 11Who said: No man, Lord. And Jesus said: Neither will I condemn thee. Go, and now sin no more. |
| 12耶穌又向眾人講說：「我是世界的光；跟隨我的，決不在黑暗中行走，必有生命的光。」 | 12Again therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying: I am the light of the world: he that followeth me, walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life. |
| 13法利塞人於是對他說：「你為你自己作證，你的證據，是不可憑信的。」 | 13The Pharisees therefore said to him: Thou givest testimony of thyself: thy testimony is not true. |
| 14耶穌回答說：「我即便為我自己作證，我的證據，是可憑信的，因為我知道：我從那裡來，往那裡去；你們卻不知道：我從那裡來，或往那裡去。 | 14Jesus answered, and said to them: Although I give testimony of myself, my testimony is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go: but you know not whence I come, or whither I go. |
| 15你們只憑肉眼判斷，我卻不判斷任何人； | 15You judge according to the flesh: I judge not any man. |
| 16即使我判斷，我的判斷，仍是真實的，因為我不是獨自一個，而是有我，還有派遣我來的父。 | 16And if I do judge, my judgment is true: because I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me. |
| 17在你們的法律上也記載着：兩個人的作證，是可憑信的。 | 17And in your law it is written, that the testimony of two men is true. |
| 18今有我為我自己作證，也有派遣我的父，為我作證。」 | 18I am one that give testimony of myself: and the Father that sent me giveth testimony of me. |
| 19他們便問他說：「你的父在那裡？」耶穌答覆說：「你們不認識我，也不認識我的父；若是你們認識了我，也就認識我的父了。」 | 19They said therefore to him: Where is thy Father? Jesus answered: Neither me do you know, nor my Father: if you did know me, perhaps you would know my Father also. |
| 20這些話是耶穌於聖殿施教時，在銀庫院裡所講的。誰也沒有捉拿他，因為他的時辰還沒有到。 | 20These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, teaching in the temple: and no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come. |
| 21那時，耶穌又向他們說：「我去了，你們要尋找我，你們必要死在你們的罪惡中；我所去的地方，你們不能去。」 | 21Again therefore Jesus said to them: I go, and you shall seek me, and you shall die in your sin. Whither I go, you cannot come. |
| 22猶太人便說：「他說：我所去的地方，你們不能去；莫非他要自殺嗎？」 | 22The Jews therefore said: Will he kill himself, because he said: Whither I go, you cannot come? |
| 23耶穌向他們說：「你們是出於下，我卻是出於上；你們是出於這個世界，我卻不是出於這個世界。 | 23And he said to them: You are from beneath, I am from above. You are of this world, I am not of this world. |
| 24因此，我對你們說過：你們要死在你們的罪惡中。的確，你們若不相信我就是那一位，你們必要死在你們的罪惡中。」 | 24Therefore I said to you, that you shall die in your sins. For if you believe not that I am he, you shall die in your sin. |
| 25於是，他們問耶穌說：「你到底是誰？」耶穌回答他們說：「難道從起初我沒有對你們講論過嗎？ | 25They said therefore to him: Who art thou? Jesus said to them: The beginning, who also speak unto you. |
| 26對你們我有許多事要說，要譴責；但是派遣我來者是真實的；我由他聽來的，我就講給世界聽。」 | 26Many things I have to speak and to judge of you. But he that sent me, is true: and the things I have heard of him, these same I speak in the world. |
| 27他們不明白他是在給他們講論父。 | 27And they understood not, that he called God his Father. |
| 28耶穌遂說：「當你們高舉了人子以後，你們便知道我就是那一位。我由我自己不作什麼；我所講論的，都是依照父所教訓我的。 | 28Jesus therefore said to them: When you shall have lifted up the Son of man, then shall you know, that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself, but as the Father hath taught me, these things I speak: |
| 29派遣我來者與我在一起，他沒有留下我獨自一個，因為我常作他所喜悅的事。」 | 29And he that sent me, is with me, and he hath not left me alone: for I do always the things that please him. |
| 30當耶穌講這些話時，許多人便信了他。 | 30When he spoke these things, many believed in him. |
| 31於是，耶穌對那些信他的猶太人說：「你們如果固守我的話，就確是我的門徒， | 31Then Jesus said to those Jews, who believed him: If you continue in my word, you shall be my disciples indeed. |
| 32也會認識真理，而真理必會使你們獲得自由。」 | 32And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. |
| 33他們回答說：「我們是亞巴郎的後裔，從未給任何人做過奴隸；怎麼你說：你們要成為自由的呢？」 | 33They answered him: We are the seed of Abraham, and we have never been slaves to any man: how sayest thou: you shall be free? |
| 34耶穌答覆說：「我實實在在告訴你們：凡是犯罪的，就是罪惡的奴隸。 | 34Jesus answered them: Amen, amen I say unto you: that whosoever committeth sin, is the servant of sin. |
| 35奴隸不能永遠住在家裡，兒子卻永遠居住。 | 35Now the servant abideth not in the house for ever; but the son abideth for ever. |
| 36那麼，如果天主子使你們自由了，你們的確是自由的。 | 36If therefore the son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed. |
| 37我知道你們是亞巴郎的後裔，你們卻圖謀殺害我，因為你們容納不下我的話。 | 37I know that you are the children of Abraham: but you seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. |
| 38我說的，是我在父那裡所看見的；而你們行的，卻是從你們的父親那裡所學習的。」 | 38I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and you do the things that you have seen with your father. |
| 39他們回答說：「我們的父親亞巴郎。」耶穌對他們說：「假如你們是亞巴郎的子女，你們就該作亞巴郎所作的事。 | 39They answered, and said to him: Abraham is our father. Jesus saith to them: If you be the children of Abraham, do the works of Abraham. |
| 40如今，你們竟然圖謀殺害我──這個給你們說出從天主那裡所聽到的真理的人──亞巴郎卻沒有作過這樣的事。 | 40But now you seek to kill me, a man who have spoken the truth to you, which I have heard of God. This Abraham did not. |
| 41你們正作你們父親的事業。」他們向他說：「我們不是由淫亂生的，我們只有一個父親：就是天主。」 | 41You do the works of your father. They said therefore to him: We are not born of fornication: we have one Father, even God. |
| 42耶穌回答說：「假如天主是你們的父親，你們必愛我，因為我是由天主出發而來的，並不是由我自己來的，而是那一位派遣了我。 | 42Jesus therefore said to them: If God were your Father, you would indeed love me. For from God I proceeded, and came; for I came not of myself, but he sent me: |
| 43為什麼你們不明白我的講論呢？無非是你們不肯聽我的話。 | 43Why do you not know my speech? Because you cannot hear my word. |
| 44你們是出於你們的父親魔鬼，並願意追隨你們父親的慾望。從起初，他就是殺人的兇手，不站在真理上，因為在他內沒有真理；他幾時撒謊，正出於他的本性，因為他是撒謊者，而且又是撒謊者的父親。 | 44You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and he stood not in the truth; because truth is not in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof. |
| 45至於我，因為我說真理，你們卻不信我。 | 45But if I say the truth, you believe me not. |
| 46你們中誰能指證我有罪？若是我說真理，為什麼你們卻不信我 呢？ | 46Which of you shall convince me of sin? If I say the truth to you, why do you not believe me? |
| 47出於天主的，必聽天主的話；你們所以不聽，因為你們不是出於天主。」 | 47He that is of God, heareth the words of God. Therefore you hear them not, because you are not of God. |
| 48猶太人遂向他說：「我們說你是個撒瑪黎雅人，並附有魔鬼，豈不正對嗎？」 | 48The Jews therefore answered, and said to him: Do not we say well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil? |
| 49耶穌答覆說：「我沒有附魔，我只是尊敬我的父，你們卻侮辱我。 | 49Jesus answered: I have not a devil: but I honour my Father, and you have dishonoured me. |
| 50然而，我不尋求我的光榮，有為我尋求而行判斷的一位。 | 50But I seek not my own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth. |
| 51我實實在在告訴你們：誰如果遵行我的話，永遠見不到死亡。」 | 51Amen, amen I say to you: If any man keep my word, he shall not see death for ever. |
| 52猶太人向他說：「現在我們知道：你附有魔鬼；亞巴郎和先知都死了；你卻說：誰如果遵行我的話，永遠嘗不到死味。 | 52The Jews therefore said: Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest: If any man keep my word, he shall not taste death for ever. |
| 53難道你比我們的父親亞巴郎還大嗎？他死了，先知們也死了。你把你自己當作什麼人呢？」 | 53Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? and the prophets are dead. Whom dost thou make thyself? |
| 54耶穌答覆說：「我如果光榮我自己，我的光榮算不了什麼；那光榮我的，是我的父，就是你們所稱的『我們的天主』。 | 54Jesus answered: If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father that glorifieth me, of whom you say that he is your God. |
| 55你們不認識他，我卻認識他；我若說我不認識他，我便像你們一樣是個撒謊者；但是，我認識他，也遵守他的話。 | 55And you have not known him, but I know him. And if I shall say that I know him not, I shall be like to you, a liar. But I do know him, and do keep his word. |
| 56你們的父親亞巴郎曾歡欣喜樂地企望看到我的日子，他看見了，極其高興。」 | 56Abraham your father rejoiced that he might see my day: he saw it, and was glad. |
| 57猶太人就對他說：「你還沒有五十歲，就見過亞巴郎嗎？」 | 57The Jews therefore said to him: Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? |
| 58耶穌回答說：「我實實在在告訴你們：在亞巴郎出現以前，我就有。」 | 58Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say to you, before Abraham was made, I am. |
| 59他們就拿起石頭來要向他投去；耶穌卻隱沒了，從聖殿裡出去了。 | 59They took up stones therefore to cast at him. But Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple. |
