| 1上主的話再次傳給約納說： | 1And the word of the Lord came to Jonas the second time, saying: |
| 2「你起身往尼尼微大城去，向他們宣告我曉諭你的事。」 | 2Arise, and go to Ninive the great city: and preach in it the preaching that I bid thee. |
| 3約納便依從上主的話，起身去了尼尼微。尼尼微在天主前是一座大城，需要三天的行程。 | 3And Jonas arose, and went to Ninive, according to the word of the Lord: now Ninive was a great city of three days' journey. |
| 4約納開始進城，行了一天的路程，宣佈說：「還有四十天，尼尼微就要毀滅了。」 | 4And Jonas began to enter into the city one day's journey: and he cried, and said: Yet forty days, and Ninive shall be destroyed. |
| 5尼尼微人便信仰了天主，立即宣佈禁食，從大到小，都身披苦衣。 | 5And the men of Ninive believed in God: and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth from the greatest to the least. |
| 6當這消息傳到尼尼微王那裏，他便起來，離開自己的寶座，脫去長服，披上苦衣，坐在灰土中； | 6And the word came to the king of Ninive; and he rose up out of his throne, and cast away his robe from him, and was clothed with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. |
| 7然後命人以君王的諭令和其大臣的名義，在尼尼微宣佈說：「人、牲畜、牛羊，都不可吃什麼；不可牧放，也不可喝水。 | 7And he caused it to be proclaimed and published in Ninive from the mouth of the king and of his princes, saying: Let neither men nor beasts, oxen nor sheep, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water. |
| 8人和牲畜，都應身披苦衣，人要懇切呼求天主，更要轉離自己的邪路，放棄手中的暴行。 | 8And let men and beasts be covered with sackcloth, and cry to the Lord with all their strength, and let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the iniquity that is in their hands. |
| 9誰知道天主也許會轉意憐憫，收回自己的烈怒，使我們不致滅亡。」 | 9Who can tell if God will turn, and forgive: and will turn away from his fierce anger, and we shall not perish? |
| 10天主看到他們所行的事，看到他們離開了自己的邪路，遂憐憫他們，不將已宣佈的災禍，降在他們身上。 | 10And God saw their works, that they were turned from their evil way: and God had mercy with regard to the evil which he had said that he would do to them, and he did it not. |
