¹那時在以色列沒有君王，同時丹支派仍在尋找居住的基地，因為直到那一天在以色列支派中，丹支派尚未得到基地。	¹In those days there was no king in Israel, and the tribe of Dan sought them an inheritance to dwell in: for unto that day they had not received their lot among the other tribes.
²於是丹子孫從祚辣和厄市陶耳，由全家族中，派了五個勇敢的人去窺探偵察那地方，對他們說：「你們去偵察那地方！」他們到了厄弗辣因山地，來到米加的住宅，就在那裏過夜。	²So the children of Dan sent five most valiant men of their stock and family from Saraa and Esthaol, to spy out the land, and to view it diligently: and they said to them: Go, and view the land. They went on their way, and when they came to mount Ephraim, they went into the house of Michas, and rested there:
³他們在米加家附近，認出那少年肋未的聲音，就過去向他說：「誰領你來到這裏？你在這裏作什麼？你在這裏有什麼職務？」	³And knowing the voice of the young man the Levite, and lodging with him, they said to him: Who brought thee hither? what dost thou here? why wouldst thou come hither?
⁴他回答說：「米加待我如此如此！他聘了我作他的司祭。」	⁴He answered them: Michas hath done such and such things for me, and hath hired me to be his priest.
⁵他們對他說：「你求問天主，使我們知道，我們將走的路順利嗎？」	⁵Then they desired him to consult the Lord, that they might know whether their journey should be prosperous, and the thing should have effect.
⁶司祭回答他們說：「你們平安去罷！上主必使你們所走的路順遂。」	⁶He answered them: Go in peace, the Lord looketh on your way, and the journey that you go.
⁷於是那五個人就去了，來到拉依士，在那裏看見城中的人民安居樂業，一如漆冬人一樣，平安無慮，地產豐富，一無所缺；並且他們離漆冬又遠，與阿蘭也沒有往來。	⁷So the five men going on came to Lais: and they saw how the people dwelt therein without any fear, according to the custom of the Sidonians, secure and easy, having no man at all to oppose them, being very rich, and living separated, at a distance from Sidon and from all men.
⁸當他們回到祚辣和厄市陶耳自己弟兄那裏時，弟兄們問他們說：「你們帶來什麼消息？」	⁸And they returned to their brethren in Saraa and Esthaol, who asked them what they had done? to whom they answered:
⁹他們回答說：「起來，讓我們上到拉依士去，因為我們已察看過，那地真肥美，你們還等什麼？不要再遲延，趕快去佔領！	⁹Arise, and let us go up to them: for we have seen the land which is exceeding rich and fruitful: neglect not, lose no time: let us go and possess it, there will be no difficulty.
¹⁰到那裏去，是到一個不設防的人民那裏去，地面寬廣遼闊；天主已把那地交在你們手中；那地方物產豐富，一無所缺。」	¹⁰We shall come to a people that is secure, into a spacious country, and the Lord will deliver the place to us, in which there is no want of any thing that groweth on the earth.
¹¹於是有六百丹支派的人，帶着武器，從祚辣和厄市陶耳出發，	¹¹There went therefore of the kindred of Dan, to wit, from Saraa and Esthaol, six hundred men, furnished with arms for war,
¹²經過山路，在猶大克黎雅特耶阿陵安營；因此，那地方直到今日叫作「丹營」；這地是在克黎雅特耶阿陵西面。	¹²And going up they lodged in Cariathiarim of Juda: which place from that time is called the camp of Dan, and is behind Cariathiarim.
¹³他們又從那裏經過厄弗辣因山地，來到米加的住處。	¹³From thence they passed into mount Ephraim. And when they were come to the house of Michas,
¹⁴當時先去窺探那地的五個人，告訴弟兄們說：「你們知不知道，在此家內有『厄弗得』、『忒辣芬』和一尊神像？現在你們要決定當作什麼。」	¹⁴The five men, that before had been sent to view the land of Lais, said to the rest of their brethren: You know that in these houses there is an ephod, and theraphim, and a graven, and a molten god: see what you are pleased to do.
¹⁵於是他們轉入米加的住宅，來到少年肋未人的屋裏，向他請安問好。	¹⁵And when they had turned a little aside, they went into the house of the young man the Levite, who was in the house of Michas: and they saluted him with words of peace.
¹⁶同時那六百丹人帶着兵器站在門口，	¹⁶And the six hundred men stood before the door, appointed with their arms.
¹⁷先去探地的那五個人就上去，進到裏面，要拿那尊神像並「厄弗得」和「忒辣芬」，此時司祭和那六百個帶武器的人站在門口。	¹⁷But they that were gone into the house of the young man, went about to take away the graven god, and the ephod, and the theraphim, and the molten god, and the priest stood before the door, the six hundred valiant men waiting not far off.
¹⁸當那些人進入米加家裏，拿那尊神像、「厄弗得」和「忒辣芬」時，司祭問他們說：「你們做什麼？」	¹⁸So they that were gone in took away the graven thing, the ephod, and the idols, and the molten god. And the priest said to them: What are you doing?
¹⁹他們回答說：「不要作聲，用手掩住你的口，跟我們去，作我們的師傅和司祭；你作一個人家的司祭好呢？還是在以色列中間作一個支派，一家族的司祭好呢？」	¹⁹And they said to him: Hold thy peace and put thy finger on thy mouth and come with us, that we may have thee for a father, and a priest. Whether is better for thee, to be a priest in the house of one man, or in a tribe and family in Israel?
²⁰司祭滿懷高興，遂帶了「厄弗得」和「忒辣芬」和神像，到了那些人中間。	²⁰When he had heard this, he agreed to their words, and took the ephod, and the idols, and the graven god, and departed with them.
²¹他們遂轉身回去，把婦孺、牲口以及輜重放在前方。	²¹And when they were going forward, and had put before them the children and the cattle and all that was valuable,
²²當他們離開米加的住宅相當遠的時候，米加和米加家附近的人，都聚集起來，去追趕丹的子孫。	²²And were now at a distance from the house of Michas, the men that dwelt in the houses of Michas gathering together followed them,
²³他們向丹的子孫呼喊，丹的子孫回過臉來對米加說：「你叫喊什麼？」	²³And began to shout out after them. They looked back, and said to Michas: What aileth thee? Why dost thou cry?
²⁴米加回答說：「你們把我所製的神像和司祭都帶走，我還有什麼呢？怎麼你們還向我說：你作什麼？」	²⁴And he answered: You have taken away my gods which I have made me and the priest, and all that I have, and do you say: What aileth thee?
²⁵丹的子孫對他說：「不要再讓我們聽見你的聲音，免得我們中間有暴燥的人打擊你們，使你和你全家都喪失性命！」	²⁵And the children of Dan said to him: See thou say no more to us, lest men enraged come upon thee, and thou perish with all thy house.
²⁶此後，丹的子孫繼續前行，米加見他們比自己強大，就轉身回了家。	²⁶And so they went on the journey they had begun. But Michas seeing that they were stronger than he, returned to his house.
²⁷丹的子孫帶着米加所做的神像和他私有的司祭，來到拉依士，到了一個平安無慮的人民那裏，用刀劍殺戮了他們，放火燒了那城，	²⁷And the six hundred men took the priest, and the things we spoke of before, and came to Lais to a people that was quiet and secure, and smote them with the edge of the sword: and the city was burnt with fire,
²⁸沒有人來援救，因為拉依士離漆冬很遠，與阿蘭又沒有往來。這城位於貝特勒曷布山谷中；丹的子孫重建這城，住在那裏，	²⁸There being no man at all who brought them any succour, because they dwelt far from Sidon, and had no society or business with any man. And the city was in the land of Rohob: and they rebuilt it and dwelt therein.
²⁹按他們的祖宗，以色列所生的兒子丹的名字，給這城起名叫丹；其實這城原先名叫拉依士。	²⁹Calling the name of the city Dan after the name of their father, who was the son of Israel, which before was called Lais.
³⁰丹的子孫把那尊神像立起來，梅瑟的後裔，革爾雄的子孫約納堂和他的子孫作丹支派的司祭，直到該地被擄掠的時日。	³⁰And they set up to themselves the graven idol, and Jonathan the son of Gersam the son of Moses, he and his sons were priests in the tribe of Dan, until the day of their captivity.
³¹天主的殿在史羅多少時日，米加所作的神像在丹支派中也立了多少時日。	³¹And the idol of Michas remained with them all the time that the house of God was in Silo. In those days there was no king in Israel.
