¹那時凱撒奧古斯都出了一道上諭，叫天下的人都要登記：	¹And it came to pass, that in those days there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that the whole world should be enrolled.
²這是在季黎諾作敘利亞總督時，初次行的登記。	²This enrolling was first made by Cyrinus, the governor of Syria.
³於是，眾人各去本城登記。	³And all went to be enrolled, every one into his own city.
⁴若瑟因為是達味家族的人，也從加里肋亞納匝肋城，上猶大名叫白冷的達味城去，	⁴And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem: because he was of the house and family of David,
⁵好同自己已懷孕的聘妻瑪利亞去登記。	⁵To be enrolled with Mary his espoused wife, who was with child.
⁶他們在那裏的時候，她分娩的日期滿了，	⁶And it came to pass, that when they were there, her days were accomplished, that she should be delivered.
⁷便生了她的頭胎男兒，用襁褓裏起，放在馬槽裏，因為在客棧中為他們沒有地方。	⁷And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him up in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
⁸在那地區有些牧人露宿，守夜看守羊群。	⁸And there were in the same country shepherds watching, and keeping the night watches over their flock.
⁹有上主的一個天使站在他們身邊，上主的光耀環照着他們，他們便非常害怕。	⁹And behold an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the brightness of God shone round about them; and they feared with a great fear.
¹⁰天使向他們說：「不要害怕！看！我給你們報告一個為全民族的大喜訊：	¹⁰And the angel said to them: Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, that shall be to all the people:
¹¹今天在達味城中，為你們誕生了一位救世者，他是主默西亞。	¹¹For, this day, is born to you a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David.
¹²這是給你們的記號：你們將要看見一個嬰兒，裏着襁褓，躺在馬槽裏。」	¹²And this shall be a sign unto you. You shall find the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger.
¹³忽有一大隊天軍，同那天使一起讚頌天主說：	¹³And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army, praising God, and saying:
¹⁴「天主受享光榮於高天，主愛的人在世享平安！」	¹⁴Glory to God in the highest; and on earth peace to men of good will.
¹⁵眾天使離開他們往天上去了以後，牧人們就彼此說：「我們且往白冷去，看看上主報告給我們所發生的事。」	¹⁵And it came to pass, after the angels departed from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another: Let us go over to Bethlehem, and let us see this word that is come to pass, which the Lord hath shewed to us.
¹⁶他們急忙去了，找到了瑪利亞和若瑟，並那躺在馬槽中的嬰兒。	¹⁶And they came with haste; and they found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger.
¹⁷他們看見以後，就把天使對他們論這小孩所說的事，傳揚開了，	¹⁷And seeing, they understood of the word that had been spoken to them concerning this child.
¹⁸凡聽見的人都驚訝牧人向他們所說的事。	¹⁸And all that heard, wondered; and at those things that were told them by the shepherds.
¹⁹瑪利亞卻把這一切事默存在自己心中，反覆思想。	¹⁹But Mary kept all these words, pondering them in her heart.
²⁰牧人們為了他們所聽見和看見的一切，正如天使向他們說的一樣，就光榮讚美天主回去了。	²⁰And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God, for all the things they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
²¹滿了八天，孩子應受割損，遂給他起名叫耶穌，這是他降孕母胎前，由天使所起的。	²¹And after eight days were accomplished, that the child should be circumcised, his name was called Jesus, which was called by the angel, before he was conceived in the womb.
²²按梅瑟的法律，一滿了他們取潔的日期，他們便帶着孩子上耶路撒冷去獻給上主，	²²And after the days of her purification, according to the law of Moses, were accomplished, they carried him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord:
²³就如上主的法律上所記載的：「凡開胎首生的男性，應祝聖於上主。」	²³As it is written in the law of the Lord: Every male opening the womb shall be called holy to the Lord:
²⁴並該照上主法律上所吩咐的，獻上祭物：一對斑鳩或兩隻鶵鴿。	²⁴And to offer a sacrifice, according as it is written in the law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons:
²⁵那時，在耶路撒冷有一個人，名叫西默盎。這人正義虔誠，期待着以色列的安慰，而且聖神也在他身上。	²⁵And behold there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Ghost was in him.
²⁶他曾蒙聖神啟示：自己在未看見上主的受傅者以前，決見不到死亡。	²⁶And he had received an answer from the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Christ of the Lord.
²⁷他因聖神的感動，進了聖殿；那時，抱着嬰孩耶穌的父母正進來，要按着法律的慣例為他行禮。	²⁷And he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when his parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law,
²⁸西默盎就雙臂接過他來，讚美天主說：	²⁸He also took him into his arms, and blessed God, and said:
²⁹「主啊！現在可照你的話，放你的僕人平安去了！	²⁹Now thou dost dismiss thy servant, O Lord, according to thy word in peace;
³⁰因為我親眼看見了你的救援，	³⁰Because my eyes have seen thy salvation,
³¹即你在萬民之前早準備好的：	³¹Which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples:
³²為作啟示異邦的光明，你百姓以色列的榮耀。」	³²A light to the revelation of the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
³³他的父親和母親就驚異他關於耶穌所說的這些話。	³³And his father and mother were wondering at those things which were spoken concerning him.
³⁴西默盎祝福了他們，又向他的母親瑪利亞說：「看，這孩子已被立定，為使以色列中許多人跌倒和復起，並成為反對的記號──	³⁴And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother: Behold this child is set for the fall, and for the resurrection of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted;
³⁵至於你，要有一把利劍剌透你的心靈──為叫許多人心中的思念顯露出來。」	³⁵And thy own soul a sword shall pierce, that, out of many hearts, thoughts may be revealed.
³⁶又有一位女先知亞納，是阿協爾支派法奴耳的女兒，已上了年紀。她出閣後，與丈夫同居了七年，	³⁶And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser; she was far advanced in years, and had lived with her husband seven years from her virginity.
³⁷以後就守寡，直到八十四歲。她齋戒祈禱，晝夜事奉天主，總不離開聖殿。	³⁷And she was a widow until fourscore and four years; who departed not from the temple, by fastings and prayers serving night and day.
³⁸正在那時刻，她也前來稱謝天主，並向一切希望耶路撒冷得救贖的人，講論這孩子。	³⁸Now she, at the same hour, coming in, confessed to the Lord; and spoke of him to all that looked for the redemption of Israel.
³⁹他們按着上主的法律，行完了一切，便返回了加里肋亞，他們的本城納匝肋。	³⁹And after they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their city Nazareth.
⁴⁰孩子漸漸長大而強壯，充滿智慧，天主的恩寵常在他身上。	⁴⁰And the child grew, and waxed strong, full of wisdom; and the grace of God was in him.
⁴¹他的父母每年逾越節往耶路撒冷去。	⁴¹And his parents went every year to Jerusalem, at the solemn day of the pasch,
⁴²他到了十二歲時，他們又照節日的慣例上去了。	⁴²And when he was twelve years old, they going up into Jerusalem, according to the custom of the feast,
⁴³過完了節日，他們回去的時候，孩童耶穌卻留在耶路撒冷，他的父母並未發覺。	⁴³And having fulfilled the days, when they returned, the child Jesus remained in Jerusalem; and his parents knew it not.
⁴⁴他們只以為他在同行的人中間，遂走了一天的路程；以後，就在親戚和相識的人中尋找他。	⁴⁴And thinking that he was in the company, they came a day's journey, and sought him among their kinsfolks and acquaintance.
⁴⁵既找不着，便折回耶路撒冷找他。	⁴⁵And not finding him, they returned into Jerusalem, seeking him.
⁴⁶過了三天，纔在聖殿裏找到了他。他正坐在經師中，聆聽他們，也詢問他們。	⁴⁶And it came to pass, that, after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, hearing them, and asking them questions.
⁴⁷凡聽見他的人，對他的智慧和對答，都驚奇不止。	⁴⁷And all that heard him were astonished at his wisdom and his answers.
⁴⁸他們一看見他，便大為驚異，他的母親就向他說：「孩子，為什麼你這樣對待我們？看，你的父親和我，一直痛苦的找你。」	⁴⁸And seeing him, they wondered. And his mother said to him: Son, why hast thou done so to us? behold thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
⁴⁹耶穌對他們說：「你們為什麼尋找我？你們不知道我必須在我父親那裏嗎？」	⁴⁹And he said to them: How is it that you sought me? did you not know, that I must be about my father's business?
⁵⁰但是，他們不明白他對他們所說的話。	⁵⁰And they understood not the word that he spoke unto them.
⁵¹他就同他們下去，來到納匝肋，屬他們管轄。他的母親把這一切默存在心中。	⁵¹And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them. And his mother kept all these words in her heart.
⁵²耶穌在智慧和身量上，並在天主和人前的恩愛上，漸漸地增長。	⁵²And Jesus advanced in wisdom, and age, and grace with God and men.
