¹耶穌囑咐完了他的十二門徒，就從那裏走了，為在他們的城裏施教宣講。	¹And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he passed from thence, to teach and preach in their cities.
²若翰在獄中聽到了基督所行的，就派遣他的門徒去，	²Now when John had heard in prison the works of Christ: sending two of his disciples he said to him:
³對他說：「你就是要來的那一位，或是我們還要等候另一位？」	³Art thou he that art to come, or look we for another?
⁴耶穌回答他們說：「你們去，把你們所見所聞的報告給若翰：	⁴And Jesus making answer said to them: Go and relate to John what you have heard and seen.
⁵瞎子看見，瘸子行走，癩病人得了潔淨，聾子聽見，死人復活，窮苦人得了喜訊。	⁵The blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead rise again, the poor have the gospel preached to them.
⁶凡不因我而絆倒的，是有福的！」	⁶And blessed is he that shall not be scandalized in me.
⁷他們走後，耶穌就對群眾論若翰說：「你們出去到荒野裏，是為看什麼呢？為看風搖曳的蘆葦嗎？	⁷And when they went their way, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: What went you out into the desert to see? a reed shaken with the wind?
⁸你們出去到底是為看什麼？為看一位穿細軟衣服的人嗎？啊！那穿細軟衣服的人是在王宮裏。	⁸But what went you out to see? a man clothed in soft garments? Behold they that are clothed in soft garments, are in the houses of kings.
⁹你們究竟為什麼出去？為看一位先知嗎？是的！我給你們說：而且他比先知還大。	⁹But what went you out to see? a prophet? yea I tell you, and more than a prophet.
¹⁰關於這人，經上記載說：『看，我派遣我的使者在你面前，他要在你前面預備你的道路。』	¹⁰For this is he of whom it is written: Behold I send my angel before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.
¹¹我實在告訴你們：在婦女所生者中，沒有興起一位比洗者若翰更大的；但在天國裏最小的，也比他大。	¹¹Amen I say to you, there hath not risen among them that are born of women a greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is the lesser in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
¹²由洗者若翰的日子直到如今，天國是以猛力奪取的，以猛力奪取的人，就攫取了它，	¹²And from the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent bear it away.
¹³因為眾先知和法律講說預言，直到若翰為止。	¹³For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John:
¹⁴若是你們願意接受，他就是那位要來的厄里亞。	¹⁴And if you will receive it, he is Elias that is to come.
¹⁵有耳的，聽罷！」	¹⁵He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
¹⁶「我可把這一代比作甚麼呢？它像坐在大街上的兒童，向其他的孩子喊叫，	¹⁶But whereunto shall I esteem this generation to be like? It is like to children sitting in the market place.
¹⁷說：我們給你們吹了笛，你們卻不跳舞；我們唱了哀歌，你們卻不捶胸。	¹⁷Who crying to their companions say: We have piped to you, and you have not danced: we have lamented, and you have not mourned.
¹⁸若翰來了，也不吃，也不喝，他們便說：他附了魔；	¹⁸For John came neither eating nor drinking; and they say: He hath a devil.
¹⁹人子來了，也吃也喝，他們卻說：看哪！一個貪吃嗜酒的人，稅吏和罪人的朋友！但智慧必藉自己的工程彰顯自己的正義。」	¹⁹The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say: Behold a man that is a glutton and a wine drinker, a friend of publicans and sinners. And wisdom is justified by her children.
²⁰那時，耶穌就開始譴責那曾看過他許多異能的城邑，因為她們沒有悔改：	²⁰Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein were done the most of his miracles, for that they had not done penance.
²¹「苛辣匝因，你是有禍的！貝特賽達，你是有禍的！因為在你們那裏所行的異能，如果行在提洛和漆冬，她們早已身披苦衣，頭上撒灰做補贖了。	²¹Woe to thee, Corozain, woe to thee, Bethsaida: for if in Tyre and Sidon had been wrought the miracles that have been wrought in you, they had long ago done penance in sackcloth and ashes.
²²但是我給你們說：在審判的日子，提洛和漆冬所受的懲罰也要比你們容易忍受。	²²But I say unto you, it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment, than for you.
²³還有你，葛法翁！莫非你要被高舉到天上嗎？將來你必下到陰府裏；因為在你那裏所行的異能，如果行在索多瑪，她必會存留到今天。	²³And thou Capharnaum, shalt thou be exalted up to heaven? thou shalt go down even unto hell. For if in Sodom had been wrought the miracles that have been wrought in thee, perhaps it had remained unto this day.
²⁴但是我給你們說：在審判的日子，索多瑪地所受的懲罰也要比你們容易忍受。」	²⁴But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
²⁵就在那時候，耶穌發言說：「父啊！天地的主宰！我稱謝你，因為你將這些事瞞住了智慧和明達的人，而啟示給小孩子。	²⁵At that time Jesus answered and said: I confess to thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to the little ones.
²⁶是的，父啊！你原來喜歡這樣。	²⁶Yea, Father; for so hath it seemed good in thy sight.
²⁷我父將一切交給了我；除了父外，沒有人認識子；除了子和子所願意啟示的人外，也沒有人認識父。	²⁷All things are delivered to me by my Father. And no one knoweth the Son, but the Father: neither doth any one know the Father, but the Son, and he to whom it shall please the Son to reveal him.
²⁸凡勞苦和負重擔的，你們都到我跟前來，我要使你們安息。	²⁸Come to me, all you that labour, and are burdened, and I will refresh you.
²⁹你們背起我的軛，跟我學罷！因為我是良善心謙的：這樣你們必要找得你們靈魂的安息，	²⁹Take up my yoke upon you, and learn of me, because I am meek, and humble of heart: and you shall find rest to your souls.
³⁰因為我的軛是柔和的，我的擔子是輕鬆的。」	³⁰For my yoke is sweet and my burden light.
