1君王的心在上主的手裏,有如水流,可隨意轉移。 | 1As the divisions of waters, so the heart of the king is in the hand of the Lord: whithersoever he will he shall turn it. |
2人對自己的行為,都自覺正直;但審察人心的,卻是上主。 | 2Every way of a man seemeth right to himself: but the Lord weigheth the hearts. |
3秉公行義,比獻祭獻更悅上主。 | 3To do mercy and judgment, pleaseth the Lord more than victims. |
4傲慢的眼睛,驕矜的心靈,惡人的炫耀,無非是罪惡。 | 4Haughtiness of the eyes is the enlarging of the heart: the lamp of the wicked is sin. |
5熟思的人,必足以致富;草率的人,必貧困纏身。 | 5The thoughts of the industrious always bring forth abundance: but every sluggard is always in want. |
6以謊言偽語騙得的財寶,是浮雲輕煙,死亡的羅網。 | 6He that gathereth treasures by a lying tongue, is vain and foolish, and shall stumble upon the snares of death. |
7惡人的暴戾,必殃及自身,因他們不肯去覆行正義。 | 7The robberies of the wicked shall be their downfall, because they would not do judgment. |
8惡人的道路,歪曲邪僻;正人的行為,正直適中。 | 8The perverse way of a man is strange: but as for him that is pure, his work is right. |
9寧願住在屋頂的一角,不願與吵婦同居一室。 | 9It is better to sit in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling women, and in a common house. |
10惡人的心靈,只求邪惡;對自己友伴,毫不關懷。 | 10The soul of the wicked desireth evil, he will not have pity on his neighbour. |
11輕狂人遭受處罰,幼稚者將得明智;智慧人接受教訓,更增加自己知識。 | 11When a pestilent man is punished, the little one will be wiser: and if he follow the wise, he will receive knowledge. |
12正義的上主監視惡人的家,且使惡人們都陷於災禍中。 | 12The just considereth seriously the house of the wicked, that he may withdraw the wicked from evil. |
13誰對窮人的哀求,充耳不聞,他呼求時,也不會得到應允。 | 13He that stoppeth his ear against the cry of the poor, shall also cry himself and shall not be heard. |
14暗中相送的饋贈,可平息忿怒;投入懷中的禮物,可平息狂怒。 | 14A secret present quencheth anger: and a gift in the bosom the greatest wrath. |
15秉公行義,能叫義人喜樂;但為作惡的人,卻是恐懼。 | 15It is joy to the just to do judgment: and dread to them that work iniquity. |
16凡遠離明智道路的人,必居於幽靈的集會中。 | 16A man that shall wander out of the way of doctrine, shall abide in the company of the giants. |
17貪愛享樂的人,必遭受窮困;喜愛酒油的人,必不會致富。 | 17He that loveth good cheer, shall be in want: he that loveth wine, and fat things, shall not be rich. |
18惡人必將為義人作贖金,敗類也將替君子作代價。 | 18The wicked is delivered up for the just: and the unjust for the righteous. |
19與好爭易怒的女人同居,倒不如獨自住在曠野裏。 | 19It is better to dwell in a wilderness, than with a quarrelsome and passionate woman. |
20珍貴的寶藏和油,積藏在智者家裏;但糊塗愚昧的人,卻將之消耗淨盡。 | 20There is a treasure to be desired, and oil in the dwelling of the just: and the foolish man shall spend it. |
21追求正義和仁慈的人,必將獲得生命與尊榮。 | 21He that followeth justice and mercy, shall find life, justice, and glory. |
22智者必登上勇士的城邑,攻破城邑所憑倚的堡壘。 | 22The wise man hath scaled the city of the strong, and hath cast down the strength of the confidence thereof. |
23誰謹守自己的口舌,心靈必能免受煩惱。 | 23He that keepeth his mouth and his tongue, keepeth his soul from distress. |
24高傲的人名叫「狂人」,他行事必極端蠻橫。 | 24The proud and the arrogant is called ignorant, who in anger worketh pride. |
25怠惰人的手不肯操作,必為他的願望所扼殺。 | 25Desires kill the slothful: for his hands have refused to work at all. |
26貪婪的人,終日貪婪;正義的人,廣施不吝。 | 26He longeth and desireth all the day: but he that is just, will give, and will not cease. |
27惡人的祭獻,已是可憎;若懷惡而獻,更將如何? | 27The sacrifices of the wicked are abominable, because they are offered of wickedness. |
28作假見證的人,必要滅亡;但善於聽的人,纔可常言。 | 28A lying witness shall perish: an obedient man shall speak of victory. |
29邪惡的人,常裝腔作勢;正直的人,卻舉止檢點。 | 29The wicked man impudently hardeneth his face: but he that is righteous, correcteth his way. |
30任何智慧、才略或計謀,都不能與上主相對抗。 | 30There is no wisdom, there is no prudence, there is no counsel against the Lord. |
31招兵買馬,是為作戰之日;但是勝利,卻由上主指使。 | 31The horse is prepared for the day of battle: but the Lord giveth safety. |
