箴言	Proverbs
¹以下也是撒羅滿的箴言，由猶大王希則克雅的人所蒐集：	¹These are also parables of Solomon, which the men of Ezechias king of Juda copied out.
²將事隱蔽，是天主的光榮；清察事實，是君王的光榮。	²It is the glory of God to conceal the word, and the glory of kings to search out the speech.
³天有多高，地有多厚，王有何心，不可測量。	³The heaven above, and the earth beneath, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
⁴若將銀渣除去淨盡，銀匠必會造出銀器；	⁴Take away the rust from silver, and there shall come forth a most pure vessel:
⁵若將君王前的惡人除掉，王座即可因正義而穩立。	⁵Take away wickedness from the face of the king, and his throne shall be established with justice.
⁶你在君王前不可炫耀，不可佔有權貴的座位；	⁶Appear not glorious before the king, and stand not in the place of great men.
⁷因為人對你說「請上座！」比在貴人前受抑更好。	⁷For it is better that it should be said to thee: Come up hither; than that thou shouldst be humbled before the prince.
⁸你眼若有所見，不可冒然訴訟；人若使你難堪，你將何以善後？	⁸The things which thy eyes have seen, utter not hastily in a quarrel: lest afterward thou mayst not be able to make amends, when thou hast dishonoured thy friend.
⁹與你的近人，可自決爭端；他人的秘密，切不可洩漏；	⁹Treat thy cause with thy friend, and discover not the secret to a stranger:
¹⁰免得人聽見了而譏笑你，使你的聲譽一敗塗地。	¹⁰Lest he insult over thee, when he hath heard it, and cease not to upbraid thee. Grace and friendship deliver a man: keep these for thyself, lest thou fall under reproach.
¹¹一句簡單話，若說得適當，有如銀盤中，放上金蘋果。	¹¹To speak a word in due time, is like apples of gold on beds of silver.
¹²明智的勸戒，對受教的人，無異於金環，或純金美飾。	¹²As an earring of gold and a bright pearl, so is he that reproveth the wise, and the obedient ear.
¹³忠誠的使者，對遣他的人，有如秋收時，吹來的涼風，使他主人的心感到愉快。	¹³As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to him that sent him, for he refresheth his soul.
¹⁴許諾而不實踐的人，只好似無雨的風雲。	¹⁴As clouds, and wind, when no rain followeth, so is the man that boasteth, and doth not fulfill his promises.
¹⁵容忍可以折服公侯，柔語能以粉碎硬骨。	¹⁵By patience a prince shall be appeased, and a soft tongue shall break hardness.
¹⁶你能找到蜂蜜，應按食量吃；怕吃的過多，反要吐出來。	¹⁶Thou hast found honey, eat what is sufficient for thee, lest being glutted therewith thou vomit it up.
¹⁷鄰舍的住家，你應少踏入；怕他討厭你，反而憎恨你。	¹⁷Withdraw thy foot from the house of thy neighbour, lest having his fill he hate thee.
¹⁸作假見證陷害鄰舍的人，無異是鐵鎚、刀劍和利箭。	¹⁸A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour, is like a dart and a sword and a sharp arrow.
¹⁹在患難之日，信賴無信用的人，有如信賴蛀壞的牙，脫節的腳。	¹⁹To trust to an unfaithful man in the time of trouble, is like a rotten tooth, and weary foot,
²⁰對憂傷的心靈詠唱詩歌，無異在傷口處倒上酸醋。	²⁰And one that looseth his garment in cold weather. As vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to a very evil heart. As a moth doth by a garment, and a worm by the wood: so the sadness of a man consumeth the heart.
²¹若仇人餓了，你要給他吃；若是他渴了，應給他水喝：	²¹If thy enemy be hungry, give him to eat: if he thirst, give him water to drink:
²²這是將火炭堆在他頭上，上主也必要因此還報你。	²²For thou shalt heap hot coals upon his head, and the Lord will reward thee.
²³北風帶來時雨；讒言易惹怒容。	²³The north wind driveth away rain, as doth a sad countenance a backbiting tongue.
²⁴寧願住在屋頂的一角，不願與吵婦同居一室。	²⁴It is better to sit in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman, and in a common house.
²⁵來自遠方的喜信，無異口渴獲清泉。	²⁵As cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good tidings from a far country.
²⁶義人如在惡人面前失足，無異弄混的水泉，弄濁的水井。	²⁶A just man falling down before the wicked, is as a fountain troubled with the foot, and a corrupted spring.
²⁷吃蜂蜜過多，有損無益；過於求光榮，反而受累。	²⁷As it is not good for a man to eat much honey, so he that is a searcher of majesty, shall be overwhelmed by glory.
²⁸人若不控制自己的脾氣，就如一座無牆無防的城市。	²⁸As a city that lieth open and is not compassed with walls, so is a man that cannot refrain his own spirit in speaking.
