箴言	Proverbs
¹我兒，你如果為你的朋友作保，或為外人擊掌；	¹My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, thou hast engaged fast thy hand to a stranger.
²你如果為你口中說的話所連累，為你口中的言詞所束縛，	²Thou art ensnared with the words of thy mouth, and caught with thy own words.
³那麼，我兒，你既然已陷在你友人的手中，你就該逃脫，該這樣做：火速前去，央求你的友人，	³Do therefore, my son, what I say, and deliver thyself: because thou art fallen into the hand of thy neighbour. Run about, make haste, stir up thy friend:
⁴不要合上眼睛睡覺，也不要垂下眼瞼假寐，	⁴Give not sleep to thy eyes, neither let thy eyelids slumber.
⁵應急速解救自己，如羚羊掙脫羅網，飛鳥逃脫獵人的圈套。	⁵Deliver thyself as a doe from the hand, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
⁶懶漢，你去看看螞蟻，觀察牠的作風，便可得些智識：	⁶Go to the ant, O sluggard, and consider her ways, and learn wisdom:
⁷牠沒有領袖，沒有監督，沒有君王；	⁷Which, although she hath no guide, nor master, nor captain,
⁸但在夏天卻知準備食糧，在秋收時積貯養料。	⁸Provideth her meat for herself in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
⁹懶漢，你要睡到幾時，你幾時纔睡醒﹖	⁹How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou rise out of thy sleep?
¹⁰「再睡片刻，再假寐片刻，再抱臂躺臥片刻！」	¹⁰Thou wilt sleep a little, thou wilt slumber a little, thou wilt fold thy hands a little to sleep:
¹¹這樣貧窮就要如同竊賊，困乏也要如同武士，向你侵襲。	¹¹And want shall come upon thee, as a traveller, and poverty as a man armed. But if thou be diligent, thy harvest shall come as a fountain, and want shall flee far from thee.
¹²無賴與惡徒，行事滿口欺詐；	¹²A man that is an apostate, an unprofitable man, walketh with a perverse mouth,
¹³他以眼傳神，以腳示意，以手指東畫西。	¹³He winketh with the eyes, presseth with the foot, speaketh with the finger.
¹⁴他存心不良，常蓄意惹事生非。	¹⁴With a wicked heart he deviseth evil, and at all times he soweth discord.
¹⁵為此，他的喪亡必突然來臨，霎時間全被毀滅，無法挽救。	¹⁵To such a one his destruction shall presently come, and he shall suddenly be destroyed, and shall no longer have any remedy.
¹⁶上主憎恨的事，共有六件，連他心裏最厭惡的事，共有七件：	¹⁶Six things there are, which the Lord hateth, and the seventh his soul detesteth:
¹⁷傲慢的眼睛，撒謊的舌頭，流無辜者血的手，	¹⁷Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,
¹⁸策劃陰謀的心，疾趨行惡的腳，	¹⁸A heart that deviseth wicked plots, feet that are swift to run into mischief,
¹⁹說謊的假見證，和在兄弟間搬弄是非的人。	¹⁹A deceitful witness that uttereth lies, and him that soweth discord among brethren.
²⁰我兒，應堅守你父親的命令，不要放棄你母親的教訓；	²⁰My son, keep the commandments of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother.
²¹應將二者常刻在你心中，繫在你的頸項上。	²¹Bind them in thy heart continually, and put them about thy neck.
²²她們在你行路時引領你，在你躺臥時看護你；在你醒來時與你交談。	²²When thou walkest, let them go with thee: when thou sleepest, let them keep thee; and when thou awakest, talk with them.
²³因為父命是盞燈，母教是光明，嚴格的勸告是生命的道路，	²³Because the commandment is a lamp, and the law a light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
²⁴使你遠避惡意的女人，離開淫婦阿諛的言詞，	²⁴That they may keep thee from the evil woman, and from the flattering tongue of the stranger.
²⁵不讓你的心貪戀她的美色，不讓她的秋波迷惑你，	²⁵Let not thy heart covet her beauty, be not caught with her winks:
²⁶因為娼妓所求的只是一塊餅，有夫之婦卻獵取寶貴的生命。	²⁶For the price of a harlot is scarce one loaf: but the woman catcheth the precious soul of a man.
²⁷人豈能懷中藏火，而不燒毀自己的衣服﹖	²⁷Can a man hide fire in his bosom, and his garments not burn?
²⁸人豈能在火炭上行走，而不灼傷自己的腳﹖	²⁸Or can he walk upon hot coals, and his feet not be burnt?
²⁹與他人妻子通姦的人就是這樣：凡接近她的，必難免受罰。	²⁹So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife, shall not be clean when he shall touch her.
³⁰盜賊若因饑餓行竊以果腹，人都不鄙視他；	³⁰The fault is not so great when a man hath stolen: for he stealeth to fill his hungry soul:
³¹但若被擒獲了，他仍須七倍償還，交出家中所有的財物。	³¹And if he be taken he shall restore sevenfold, and shall give up all the substance of his house.
³²與婦人通姦的人，實屬愚眛，他這樣做，卻是毀滅自己。	³²But he that is an adulterer, for the folly of his heart shall destroy his own soul:
³³他必遭受可恥的打擊，並且他的恥辱，永不得拭去；	³³He gathereth to himself shame and dishonour, and his reproach shall not be blotted out:
³⁴因為妒火能激怒男人，使他在報復時，決不留情；	³⁴Because the jealousy and rage of the husband will not spare in the day of revenge,
³⁵任何的賠償，他都不理睬；即使你多送禮品，他也不肯罷休。	³⁵Nor will he yield to any man's prayers, nor will he accept for satisfaction ever so many gifts.
