| 1在阿孟的兒子約史雅為猶大王的時日，上主的話傳給希則克雅的玄孫，阿瑪黎雅的曾孫，革達里雅的孫子，雇史的兒子索福尼亞。 | 1The word of the Lord that came to Sophonias the son of Chusi, the son of Godolias, the son of Amarias, the son of Ezechias, in the days of Josias the son of Amon king of Juda. |
| 2我必要由地面上掃除一切──上主的斷語── | 2Gathering, I will gather together all things from off the face of the land, saith the Lord: |
| 3我要掃除人和獸，我要掃除天空的鳥和海中的魚；我必使作惡的人倒斃，並由地面上剷除世人──上主的斷語。 | 3I will gather man, and beast, I will gather the birds of the air, and the fishes of the sea: and the ungodly shall meet with ruin: and I will destroy men from off the face of the land, saith the Lord. |
| 4我要伸手懲罰猶大和耶路撒冷所有的居民，我要由這地方剷除巴耳的記念和僧侶【司祭】的名字， | 4And I will stretch out my hand upon Juda, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem: and I will destroy out of this place the remnant of Baal, and the names of the wardens of the temples with the priests: |
| 5剷除那在露台上敬拜天象和那敬拜上主而又指米耳公起誓的人， | 5And them that worship the host of heaven upon the tops of houses, and them that adore, and swear by the Lord, and swear by Melchom. |
| 6剷除那背離上主，不尋覓上主，不求問上主的人。 | 6And them that turn away from following after the Lord, and that have not sought the Lord, nor searched after him. |
| 7在我主上主面前要肅靜，因為上主的日子臨近了！上主備辦了祭宴，祝聖了他邀請的人。 | 7Be silent before the face of the Lord God: for the day of the Lord is near, for the Lord hath prepared a victim, he hath sanctified his guests. |
| 8在祭宴日內，我要懲罰公侯和王室，以及一切穿外邦衣服的人。 | 8And it shall come to pass in the day of the victim of the Lord, that I will visit upon the princes, and upon the king's sons, and upon all such as are clothed with strange apparel. |
| 9在那一天，我要懲罰一切跳過門檻，和使自己主人家充滿殘暴欺詐的人。 | 9And I will visit in that day upon every one that entereth arrogantly over the threshold: them that fill the house of the Lord their God with iniquity and deceit. |
| 10在那一天──上主的斷語──必有喊聲發自魚門，必有哀號出自新區，必有利害的崩潰來自山陵。 | 10And there shall be in that day, saith the Lord, the noise of a cry from the fish gate, and a howling from the Second, and a great destruction from the hills. |
| 11居於盆地的居民，你們應哀號！因為一切商人都已被消滅，一切秤量銀子的人已被剷除。 | 11Howl, ye inhabitants of the Morter. All the people of Chanaan is hush, all are cut off that were wrapped up in silver. |
| 12那時，我必提上燈，搜索耶路撒冷，懲罰那躺臥在酒槽上，心下自謂：「上主不賞善，也不罰惡」的人。 | 12And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and will visit upon the men that are settled on their lees: that say in their hearts: The Lord will not do good, nor will he do evil. |
| 13他們的財物必遭搶掠；他們的家園必成廢墟；他們建造房屋，卻不得居往；他們種植葡萄園，卻不得酒飲。 | 13And their strength shall become a booty, and their houses as a desert: and they shall build houses, and shall not dwell in them: and they shall plant vineyards, and shall not drink the wine of them. |
| 14上主偉大的日子臨近了，臨近了，且來的很快。哀哉！上主的日子是苦的，連壯士那時也要哀號。 | 14The great day of the Lord is near, it is near and exceeding swift: the voice of the day of the Lord is bitter, the mighty man shall there meet with tribulation. |
| 15那天是忿怒的一天，困苦艱難的一天，破壞摧殘的一天，昏暗幽冥的一天，烏雲陰霾的一天； | 15That day is a day of wrath, a day of tribulation and distress, a day of calamity and misery, a day of darkness and obscurity, a day of clouds and whirlwinds, |
| 16是向堅城、碉堡吹號鳴角的一天！ | 16A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high bulwarks. |
| 17我要使人苦惱，使他們行路有如瞎子，因為他們得罪了上主；他們的血流出有如塵土，他們的屍體有如糞土。 | 17And I will distress men, and they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the Lord: and their blood shall be poured out as earth, and their bodies as dung. |
| 18連他們的金銀財寶也不能救拔他們！在上主忿恨的日子，整個大地必要為他的妒火所吞滅，因為他要向地上的一切居民，執行徹底而又可怕的毀滅。 | 18Neither shall their silver and their gold be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord: all the land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy, for he shall make even a speedy destruction of all them that dwell in the land. |
