| 1奉天主的旨意，為傳佈在基督耶穌內所恩許的生命，作基督耶穌宗徒的保祿， | 1From Paul, apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, for the sake of his promise of eternal life in Christ Jesus, |
| 2致書給可愛的兒子弟茂德。願恩寵、仁慈與平安，由天主父和我們的主基督耶穌賜與你！ | 2to my dear son Timothy. May grace, mercy and peace be with you from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. |
| 3當我在黑夜白日的祈禱中，不斷地懷念你時，我就感謝我繼續祖先，以純潔的良心所服事的天主。 | 3I give thanks to God whom I serve with a clear conscience the way my ancestors did, as I remember you constantly, day and night, in my prayers. |
| 4我每想起你的眼淚，我便渴望見你，為叫我滿心喜樂； | 4I recall your tears and I long to see you that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith, |
| 5我記得你那毫無虛偽的信德，這信德首先存在你外祖母羅依和你母親歐尼刻的心中，我深信也存在你的心中。 | 5so like the faith of your grandmother Lois and of your mother Eunice, which I am sure you have inherited. |
| 6為了這個緣故，我提醒你把天主藉我的覆手所賦予你的恩賜，再熾燃起來， | 6For this reason I invite you to fan into a flame the gift of God you received through the laying on of my hands. |
| 7因為，天主所賜給我們的，並非怯懦之神，而是大能、愛德和慎重之神。 | 7For God did not confer on us a spirit of bashfulness, but of strength, love and good judgment. |
| 8所以，你不要以給我們的主作證為恥，也不要以我這為主被囚的人為恥，但要依賴天主的大能，為福音同我共受勞苦。 | 8Do not be ashamed of testifying to our Lord, nor of seeing me in chains. On the contrary, do your share in laboring for the Gospel with the strength of God. |
| 9天主拯救了我們，以聖召召叫了我們，並不是按照我們的行為，而是按照他的決意和恩寵：這恩寵是萬世以前，在基督耶穌內賜予我們的， | 9He saved us and called us - a calling which proceeds from his holiness. This did not depend on our merits, but on his generosity and his own initiative. This calling given to us from all time in Christ Jesus |
| 10如今藉着我們的救主基督耶穌的出現，顯示了出來；他毀滅了死亡，藉着福音彰顯了不朽的生命。 | 10has just been manifested with the glorious appearance of Christ Jesus, our Lord, who destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light in his Gospel. |
| 11為這福音，我被立為宣講者，為宗徒，為導師。 | 11Of this message I was made herald, apostle and teacher. |
| 12為了這個原故，我現在受這些苦難，但我並不以此為恥，因為我知道我所信賴的是誰，也深信他有能力保管我所受的寄托，直至那一日。 | 12For its sake I now suffer this trial, but I am not ashamed, for I know in whom I have believed and I am convinced that he is capable of taking care of all I have entrusted to him until that day. |
| 13你要以信德及在基督耶穌內的愛德，把從我所聽的健全道理，奉為模範； | 13Follow the pattern of the sound doctrine which you have heard from me, concerning faith and love in Christ Jesus. |
| 14且依賴那住在我們內的聖神，保管你所受的美好寄托。 | 14Keep this precious deposit with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives within us. |
| 15你知道那些在亞細亞的人都離棄了我，其中有非革羅和赫摩革乃。 | 15You know that all from the province of Asia have deserted me, especially Phygelus and Hermogenes. |
| 16願主賜仁慈於敖乃息佛洛的家庭，因為他屢次使我精神快慰，也不以我的鎖鏈為恥， | 16May God bless the household of Onesiphoras, for he often came to visit me and was not ashamed of my chains. |
| 17而且他一到了羅馬，便急切地訪尋我，也找到了我。 | 17On the contrary, on arriving in Rome he searched for me until he found me. |
| 18願主到那一日，賜他獲得主的仁慈！他在厄弗所怎樣為我服了務，你們知道得更清楚。 | 18May the Lord grant that he find mercy from the Lord on that day. You well know all the services he rendered at Ephesus. |
