| 1以色列子民離開埃及國後，第三個月初一那一天，到了西乃曠野。 | 1Exactly two months after the Israelites had left Egypt, they arrived at the wilderness of Sinai. |
| 2他們從勒非丁起程，來到西乃曠野，就在曠野中安了營；以色列人在那座山前安了營。 | 2They arrived there coming from Rephidim and camped in the wilderness of Sinai. |
| 3梅瑟上到天主前，上主從山上召喚他說：「你要這樣告訴雅各伯家，訓示以色列子民說： | 3The Israelites camped there in front of the mountain, but Moses went up to God and Yahweh called to him from the mountain, saying, "This is what you are to say and to explain to the Israelites: |
| 4你們親自見了我怎樣對待了埃及人，怎樣好似鷹將你們背在翅膀上，將你們帶出來歸屬我。 | 4You have seen what I did to the Egyptians and how I carried you on eagle's wings and brought you to myself. |
| 5現在你們若真聽我的話，遵守我的盟約，你們在萬民中將成為我的特殊產業。的確，普世全屬於我， | 5Now if you listen to me and keep my covenant, you shall be my very own possession among all the nations. For all the earth is mine, |
| 6但你們為我應成為司祭的國家，聖潔的國民。你應將這些話訓示以色列子民。」 | 6but you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation." And he added, "This is what you are to say to the people of Israel." |
| 7梅瑟就去召集百姓的長老，將上主吩咐他的那一切話，都在他們前說明了。 | 7So Moses went and summoned all the elders of the people and related to them all that Yahweh had commanded him to say. |
| 8眾百姓一致回答說：「凡上主所吩咐的，我們全要作。」梅瑟遂將百姓的答覆轉達於上主。 | 8All the people responded with one voice, "All that Yahweh has said, we will do." Moses then brought back to Yahweh the people's response. |
| 9上主向梅瑟說：「我要在濃雲中降到你前，叫百姓聽見我與你談話，使他們永遠信服你。」梅瑟遂向上主呈報了百姓的答覆。 | 9Yahweh spoke to Moses, "I am going to come to you in a dense cloud so that the people may hear me speaking with you and trust you always." Then Moses related to Yahweh what the people had said. |
| 10上主向梅瑟說：「你到百姓那裏，叫他們今天明天聖潔自己，洗淨自己的衣服。 | 10Again Yahweh spoke to Moses, "Go to the people and have them sanctified today and tomorrow; let them wash their garments |
| 11第三天都應準備妥當，因為第三天，上主要在百姓觀望之下降到西乃山上。 | 11and be ready for the third day. For on the third day Yahweh will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. |
| 12你要給百姓在山周圍劃定界限說：應小心，不可上山，也不可觸摸山腳；凡觸摸那山的，應處死刑。 | 12You will fix a limit for the people round about, saying: 'Take care not to go up to the mountain or touch its base. Whoever touches the mountain will die. |
| 13誰也不可用手觸摸那人，而應用石頭砸死或用箭射死；不論是獸是人，都不得生存；號角響起的時候，他們才可上山。」 | 13No hand shall touch him but he will be stoned or shot down by arrows; be it man or beast he shall not live.' Only when the ram's horn sounds may some of them go up to the mountain." |
| 14梅瑟下山來到百姓那裏，叫他們聖潔自己，洗淨自己的衣服。 | 14Moses came down from the mountain to the people and purified them, and they washed their garments. |
| 15他向百姓說：「到第三天應準備妥當，不可接近女人。」 | 15He then said to the people, "Be ready in three days and abstain from sexual relations." |
| 16到了第三天早晨，山上雷電交作，濃雲密佈，角聲齊鳴，此時在營中的百姓都戰戰兢兢。 | 16On the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning and a dense cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast was heard. All the people in the camp trembled. |
| 17梅瑟叫百姓從營中出來迎接天主，他們都站在山下。 | 17Moses then made the people leave the camp to meet God and stand at the foot of the mountain. |
| 18此時西乃全山冒煙，因為上主在火中降到山上；冒出的煙像火窯的煙，全山猛烈震動。 | 18Mount Sinai was completely covered in smoke because Yahweh had come down in fire, and the smoke rose as from a furnace. The whole mountain shook violently, |
| 19角聲越響越高；梅瑟遂開始說話，天主藉雷霆答覆他。 | 19while the blast of the trumpet became louder and louder. Moses spoke and God replied in thunder. |
| 20上主降到西乃山頂上，召梅瑟上到山頂；梅瑟就上去了。 | 20When Yahweh had come down to the summit of Mount Sinai, God called Moses who went to the summit |
| 21上主向梅瑟說：「下去通告百姓：不可闖到上主面前觀看，免得許多人死亡。 | 21where Yahweh said to him, "Go down and give this warning to the people, lest they rush to see Yahweh and many of them perish. |
| 22連那些接近上主的司祭們，也應聖潔自己，免得上主擊殺他們。」 | 22Even the priests who come near Yahweh must purify themselves lest Yahweh break out against them." |
| 23梅瑟答覆上主說：「百姓不能上西乃山，因你自己曾通告我們說：要在山的四周劃定界限，也宣布這山是不可侵犯的。」 | 23Moses answered Yahweh, "The people cannot ascend Mount Sinai because you yourself ordered us to put limits around the mountain, and set it apart as holy." |
| 24上主向他說：「下去，你同亞郎一起上來，但司祭和百姓不可闖到上主前，免得我擊殺他們。」 | 24Yahweh replied, "Go down and bring up Aaron with you, but do not let the priests and the people break through to come up to Yahweh or he will break out against them." |
| 25梅瑟便下到百姓那裏，通知了他們。 | 25So Moses went down to the people and said to them... |
