| 2上主的話傳給他，是在阿孟的兒子約史雅為猶大王執政第十三年； | 2The word of Yahweh came to him in the thirteenth year of the reign of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah. |
| 3以後傳給他，是在約史雅的兒子約雅金為猶大王，直到約史雅的兒子漆德克雅為猶大王第十一年年底，即直到是年五月，耶路撒冷居民被擄去充軍時為止。 | 3It came again during the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the eleventh year of Zedekiah son of Josiah, king of Judah. In the fifth month of that year, the inhabitants of Jerusalem were taken into exile. |
| 4上主對我說： | 4A word of Yahweh came to me, |
| 5「我還沒有在母腹內形成你以前，我已認識了你；在你還沒有出離母胎以前，我已祝聖了你，選定了你作萬民的先知。」 | 5"Even before I formed you in the womb I have known you; even before you were born I had set you apart, and appointed you a prophet to the nations!" |
| 6我回答說：「哎呀！我主上主！你看，我還太年輕，不會說話。」 | 6I said, "Ah, Lord Yahweh! I do not know how to speak; I am still young!" |
| 7上主對我說：「你別說：我太年輕，因為我派你到那裏去，你就應到那裏去；我命你說甚麼，你就應說甚麼。 | 7But Yahweh replied, "Do not say; 'I am still young', for now you will go whatever be the mission I am entrusting to you, and you will speak of whatever I command you to say. |
| 8你不要害怕他們，因為有我與你同在，保護你──上主的斷語。」 | 8Do not be afraid of them, for I will be with you to protect you - it is Yahweh who speaks!" |
| 9此後，上主伸出手來，觸摸我的口，對我說；「看，我將我的話放在你口中； | 9Then Yahweh stretched out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, "Now I have put my words in your mouth. |
| 10看，我今天委派你對萬民和列國，執行拔除、破壞、毀滅、推翻、建設和栽培的任務。」 | 10See! Today I give you authority over nations and over kingdoms to uproot and to pull down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant." |
| 11上主的話傳給我說：「耶肋米亞！你看見甚麼？」我回答說：「我看見一根杏樹枝。」 | 11A word of Yahweh came to me again, "Jeremiah what do you see?" I said, "I see the branch of a watching tree." |
| 12上主對我說：「你看的對，因為我要警醒，看我的話怎樣實現。」 | 12And Yahweh said to me, "You are right. I too am watching to fulfill my word." |
| 13上主的話二次傳給我說：「你看見甚麼？」我回答說：「我看見一個沸騰的鍋，它的口由北面傾倒過來。」 | 13The word of Yahweh came to me a second time, "What do you see?" I replied, "I see a boiling caldron coming from the north and it is tilted towards this direction." Then Yahweh said to me, |
| 14上主對我說：「災禍將由北方燒起，一直燒到這地上的一切居民。 | 14"From the north disaster will boil down on all the people of this land. |
| 15看啊，我必召集北方的一切國家──上主的斷語──叫各國前來，在耶路撒冷城門口，在城牆四周以及猶大各城市旁，建立自己的寶座。 | 15I am calling all the kingdoms of the north - it is Yahweh who speaks. Each of them will come and encamp at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem; against all its surrounding walls and against all the cities of Judah. |
| 16我要向各城市的人民宣告我的判決，懲罰他們的一切罪惡，因為他們離棄我，向別的神祇獻香，崇拜了他們手製的作品。 | 16I will pass judgment on my people because of the evil they do in forsaking me; they have burned incense to foreign gods and worshipped gods their hands have made. |
| 17至於你，你要束上腰，起來向他們傳示我命令你的一切。在他們面前，你不要畏懼，免得我在他們面前令你畏懼。 | 17But you, get ready for action; stand up and say to them all that I command you. Be not scared of them or I will scare you in their presence! |
| 18看啊，我今天使你成為堅城、銅牆、鐵壁，以對抗猶大君王和首領，司祭和當地的人民。 | 18See, I will make you a fortified city, a pillar of iron with walls of bronze, against all the nations, against the kings and princes of Judah, against the priests and the people of the land. |
| 19他們要攻擊你，卻不能得勝你，因為有我與你同在，協助你──上主的斷語。」 | 19They will fight against you but shall not overcome you, for I am with you to rescue you - it is Yahweh who speaks." |
