| 1「我給你們講論了這些事，免得你們的信仰受動搖。 | 1I tell you all this to keep you from stumbling and falling away. |
| 2人要把你們逐出會堂；並且時候必到，凡殺害你們的，還以為是盡恭敬天主的義務。 | 2They will put you out of the Jewish communities. Still more, the hour is coming when anyone who kills you will claim to be serving God; |
| 3他們這樣作，是因為沒有認識父，也沒有認識我。 | 3they will do this because they have not known the Father or me. |
| 4我給你們講論了這一切，是為叫你們在這一切發生時，想起我早就告訴了你們這一切。這些事起初我沒有告訴你們，因為我還與你們同在。」 | 4I tell you all these things now so that when the time comes you may remember that I told you. I did not tell you about this in the beginning because I was with you. |
| 5「現在我就往派遣我者那裏去，你們中卻沒有人問我：你往那裏去？ | 5But now I am going to the One who sent me and none of you asks me where I am going; |
| 6只因我給你們說了這話，你們就滿心憂悶。 | 6instead you are overcome with grief because of what I have said. |
| 7然而，我將真情告訴你們：我去為你們有益，因為我若不去，護慰者便不會到你們這裏來；我若去了，就要派遣他到你們這裏來。 | 7Indeed believe me: It is better for you that I go away, because as long as I do not leave, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go away, it is to send him to you, |
| 8當他來到時，就要指證世界關於罪惡、正義和審判所犯的錯誤： | 8and when he comes, he will vindicate the truth in face of the world with regard to sin, to the way of righteousness, and to the Judgment. |
| 9關於罪惡，因為他們沒有信從我； | 9What has been the sin? They did not believe in me. |
| 10關於正義，因為我往父那裏去，而你們再見不到我； | 10What is the way of righteousness? I am on the way to the Father, meanwhile you will not see me. |
| 11關於審判，因為這世界的首領已被判斷了。 | 11What Judgment? The Ruler of this world has himself been condemned. |
| 12我本來還有許多事要告訴你們，然而你們現在不能擔負。 | 12I still have many things to tell you, but you cannot bear them now. |
| 13當那一位真理之神來時，他要把你們引入一切真理，因為他不憑自己講論，只把他所聽到的講出來，並把未來的事傳告給你們。 | 13When he, the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into the whole truth. He has nothing to say of himself but he will speak of what he hears, and he will tell you of the things to come. |
| 14他要光榮我，因為他要把由我所領受的，傳告給你們。 | 14He will take what is mine and make it known to you; in doing this, he will glorify me. |
| 15凡父所有的一切，都是我的；為此我說：他要由我領受而傳告給你們。」 | 15All that the Father has is mine; because of this I have just told you, that the Spirit will take what is mine and make it known to you." |
| 16「只有片時，你們就看不見我了；再過片時，你們又要看見我。」 | 16A little while and you will see me no more; and then a little while, and you will see me." |
| 17於是他門徒中有幾個彼此說：「他給我們所說的：『只有片時，你們就看不見我了；再過片時，你們又要看見我。』還有『我往父那裏去』，是什麼意思？」 | 17Some of the disciples wondered, "What does he mean by: 'A little while and you will not see me, and then a little while and you will see me'? And why did he say: 'I go to the Father'?" |
| 18又說：「他說的這『只有片時』，究竟有什麼意思？我們不明白他講什麼。」 | 18And they said to one another, "What does he mean by 'a little while'? We don't understand." |
| 19耶穌看出他們願意問他，就對他們說：「你們不是彼此詢問我所說的：『只有片時，你們就看不見我了；再過片時，你們又要看見我』的話嗎？ | 19Jesus knew that they wanted to question him; so he said to them, "You are puzzled because I told you that in a little while you will see me no more, and then a little while later you will see me. |
| 20我實實在在告訴你們：你們要痛哭，哀號，世界卻要歡樂；你們將要憂愁，但你們的憂愁卻要變為喜樂。 | 20Truly, I say to you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn to joy. |
| 21婦女生產的時候，感到憂苦，因為她的時辰來到了；既生了孩子，因了喜樂再不記憶那苦楚了，因為一個人已生在世上了。 | 21A woman in childbirth is in distress because her time is at hand. But after the child is born, she no longer remembers her suffering because of such great joy: a human being is born into the world. |
| 22如今，你們固然感到憂愁，但我要再見到你們，那時，你們心裏要喜樂，並且你們的喜樂誰也不能從你們奪去。 | 22You feel sorrowful now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice. And no one will take your joy from you. |
| 23到那一天，你們什麼也不必問我了。我實實在在告訴你們：你們因我的名無論向父求什麼，他必賜給你們。 | 23When that day comes you will not ask me anything. Truly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my Name, he will give you. |
| 24直到現在，你們沒有因我的名求什麼；求罷！必會得到，好使你們的喜樂得以圓滿。」 | 24So far you have not asked in my Name; ask and receive that your joy may be full. |
| 25「我用比喻對你們講了這一切；但時候來到，我不再用比喻對你們說話，而要明明地向你們傳報有關父的一切。 | 25I taught you all this in veiled language, but the time is coming when I shall no longer speak in veiled language, but will tell you plainly of the Father. |
| 26在那一天，你們要因我的名祈求，我不向你們說：我要為你們求父， | 26When that day comes, you will ask in my Name and it will not be for me to ask the Father for you, |
| 27因為父自己愛你們，因你們愛了我，且相信我出自天主。 | 27for the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and you believe that I came from the Father. |
| 28我出自父，來到了世界上；我又離開世界，往父那裏去。」 | 28As I came from the Father and have come into the world, so I am leaving the world and going to the Father." |
| 29他的門徒便說：「看，現在你明明地講論，不用什麼比喻了。 | 29The disciples said to him, "Now you are speaking plainly and not in veiled language! |
| 30現在，我們曉得你知道一切，不需要有人問你；因此，我們相信你是出自天主。」 | 30Now we see that you know all things, even before we question you. Because of this we believe that you came from God." |
| 31耶穌回答說：「現在你們相信嗎？ | 31Jesus answered them, "You say that you believe! |
| 32看，時辰要來，且已來到，你們要被驅散，各人歸各人的地方去，撇下我獨自一個，其實我並不是獨自一個，因為有父與我同 在。 | 32The hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each one to his home, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. |
| 33我給你們講了這一切，是要你們在我內得到平安。在世界上你們要受苦難；然而你們放心，我已戰勝了世界。」 | 33I have told you all this, so that in me you may have peace. You will have trouble in the world; but, courage! I have overcome the world." |
