| 1這些事以後，耶穌往加里肋亞海，即提庇黎雅海的對岸去了。 | 1After this Jesus went to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, near Tiberias, |
| 2大批群眾，因為看見他在患病者身上所行的神蹟，都跟隨着他。 | 2and large crowds followed him because of the miraculous signs they saw when he healed the sick. |
| 3耶穌上了山，和他的門徒一起坐在那裏。 | 3So he went up into the hills and sat down there with his disciples. |
| 4那時，猶太人的慶節，即逾越節，已臨近了。 | 4Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand. |
| 5耶穌舉目看見大批群眾來到他前，就對斐理伯說：「我們從那裏買餅給這些人吃呢？」 | 5Then lifting up his eyes, Jesus saw the crowds that were coming to him and said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread so that these people may eat?" |
| 6他說這話，是為試探斐理伯；他自己原知道要作什麼。 | 6He said this to test Philip, for he himself knew what he was going to do. |
| 7斐理伯回答說：「就是二百塊『德納』的餅，也不夠每人分得一小塊。」 | 7Philip answered him, "Two hundred silver coins would not buy enough bread for each of them to have a piece." |
| 8有一個門徒，即西滿伯多祿的哥哥安德肋說： | 8Then one of Jesus' disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said, |
| 9「這裏有一個兒童，他有五個大麥餅和兩條魚；但是為這麼多的人這算得什麼？」 | 9"There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are these for so many?" |
| 10耶穌說：「你們叫眾人坐下罷！」在那地方有許多青草，於是人們便坐下，男人約有五千。 | 10Jesus said, "Make the people sit down." There was plenty of grass there so the people, about five thousand men, sat down to rest. |
| 11耶穌就拿起餅，祝謝後，分給坐下的人；對於魚也照樣作了；讓眾人任意吃。 | 11Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks and distributed them to those who were seated. He did the same with the fish and gave them as much as they wanted. |
| 12他們吃飽以後，耶穌向門徒說：「把剩下的碎塊收集起來，免得蹧蹋了。」 | 12And when they had eaten enough, he told his disciples, "Gather up the pieces left over, that nothing may be lost." |
| 13他們就把人吃後所剩下的五個大麥餅的碎塊，收集起來，裝滿了十二筐。 | 13So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with bread, that is with pieces of the five barley loaves left by those who had eaten. |
| 14眾人見了耶穌所行的神蹟，就說：「這人確實是那要來到世界上的先知。」 | 14When the people saw this sign that Jesus had just given, they said, "This is really the Prophet, he who is to come into the world." |
| 15耶穌看出他們要來強迫他，立他為王，就獨自又退避到山裏去 了。 | 15Jesus realized that they would come and take him by force to make him king; so he fled to the hills by himself. |
| 16到了晚上，他的門徒下到海邊， | 16When evening came, the disciples went down to the shore. |
| 17上船要到海對岸的葛法翁去。天已黑了，耶穌還沒有來到他們那裏。 | 17After a while they got into a boat to make for Capernaum on the other side of the sea, for it was now dark and Jesus had not yet come to them. |
| 18海上因起了大風，便翻騰起來。 | 18But the sea was getting rough because a strong wind was blowing. |
| 19當他們搖櫓大約過了二十五或三十「斯塔狄」時，看見耶穌在海面上行走，臨近了船，便害怕起來。 | 19They had rowed about three or four miles, when they saw Jesus walking on the sea, and he was drawing near to the boat. They were frightened, |
| 20但他卻向他們說：「是我，不要害怕！」 | 20but he said to them, "It is Me; don't be afraid." |
| 21他們便欣然接他上船，船就立時到了他們所要去的地方。 | 21They wanted to take him into the boat, but immediately the boat was at the shore to which they were going. |
| 22第二天，留在海對岸的群眾，看見只有一隻小船留在那裏，也知道耶穌沒有同他的門徒一起上船，只有他的門徒走了── | 22Next day the people who had stayed on the other side realized that only one boat had been there and that Jesus had not entered it with his disciples; rather, the disciples had gone away alone. |
| 23然而從提庇黎雅有別的小船來到了，靠近吾主祝謝後，人們吃餅的地方── | 23Bigger boats from Tiberias came near the place where all these people had eaten the bread. |
| 24當群眾一發覺耶穌和他的門徒都不在那裏時，他們便上了那些小船，往葛法翁找耶穌去了。 | 24When they saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum looking for Jesus. |
| 25當群眾在海對岸找着他時，就對他說：「辣彼，你什麼時候到了這裏？」 | 25When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, "Master, when did you come here?" |
| 26耶穌回答說：「我實實在在告訴你們：你們尋找我，並不是因為看到了神蹟，而是因為吃餅吃飽了。 | 26Jesus answered, "Truly, I say to you, you look for me, not because you have seen through the signs, but because you ate bread and were satisfied. |
| 27你們不要為那可損壞的食糧勞碌，而要為那存留到永生的食糧勞碌，即人子所要賜給你們的，因為他是天主聖父所印證的。」 | 27Work then, not for perishable food, but for the lasting food which gives eternal life. The Son of Man will give it to you, for he is the one the Father has marked." |
| 28他們問說：「我們該做什麼，纔算做天主的事業呢？」 | 28Then the Jews asked him, "What shall we do? What are the works that God wants us to do?" |
| 29耶穌回答說：「天主要你們所做的事業，就是要你們信從他所派遣來的。」 | 29And Jesus answered them, "The work God wants is this: that you believe in the One whom God has sent." |
| 30他們又說：「那麼，你行什麼神蹟給我們看，好叫我們信服你呢？你要行什麼事呢？ | 30They then said, "Show us miraculous signs, that we may see and believe you. What sign do you perform? |
| 31我們的祖先在曠野裏吃過『瑪納』，正如經上所記載的：『他從天上賜給了他們食物吃。』」 | 31Our ancestors ate manna in the desert; as Scripture says: They were given bread from heaven to eat." |
| 32於是耶穌向他們說：「我實實在在告訴你們：並不是梅瑟賜給了你們那從天上來的食糧，而是我父現今賜給你們從天上來的真正的食糧， | 32Jesus then said to them, "Truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven. My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. |
| 33因為天主的食糧，是那由天降下，並賜給世界生命的。」 | 33The bread God gives is the One who comes from heaven and gives life to the world." |
| 34他們便說：「主！你就把這樣的食糧常常賜給我們罷！」 | 34And they said to him, "Give us this bread always." |
| 35耶穌回答說：「我就是生命的食糧；到我這裏來的，永不會饑餓；信從我的，總不會渴。 | 35Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall never be hungry, and whoever believes in me shall never be thirsty. |
| 36但是，我向你們說過：你們看見了我，仍然不信。 | 36Nevertheless, as I said, you refuse to believe, even when you have seen. |
| 37凡父交給我的，必到我這裏來；而到我這裏來的，我必不把他拋棄於外， | 37Yet, all that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me, I shall not turn away. |
| 38因為我從天降下，不是為執行我的旨意，而是為執行派遣我來者的旨意。 | 38For I have come from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of the One who sent me. |
| 39派遣我來者的旨意就是：凡他交給我的，叫我連一個也不失掉，而且在末日還要使他復活， | 39And the will of him who sent me is that I lose nothing of what he has given me, but instead that I raise it up on the last day. |
| 40因為這是我父的旨意：凡看見子，並信從子的，必獲得永生；並且在末日，我要使他復活。」 | 40This is the will of the Father, that whoever sees the Son and believes in him shall live with eternal life; and I will raise him up on the last day." |
| 41猶太人遂對耶穌竊竊私議，因為他說：我是從天上降下來的食糧。 | 41The Jews murmured because Jesus had said, "I am the bread which comes from heaven." |
| 42他們說：「這人不是若瑟的兒子耶穌麼？他的父親和母親，我們豈不是都認識麼？怎麼他竟說：我是從天上降下來的呢？」 | 42And they said, "This man is the son of Joseph, isn't he? We know his father and mother. How can he say that he has come from heaven?" |
| 43耶穌回答說：「你們不要彼此竊竊私議！ | 43Jesus answered them, "Do not murmur among yourselves. |
| 44凡不是派遣我的父所吸引的人，誰也不能到我這裏來，而我在末日要叫他復活。 | 44No one can come to me unless he is drawn by the Father who sent me; and I will raise him up on the last day. |
| 45在《先知書》上記載：『眾人都要蒙天主的訓誨。』凡由父聽教而學習的，必到我這裏來。 | 45It has been written in the Prophets: They shall all be taught by God. So whoever listens and learns from the Father comes to me. |
| 46這不是說有人看見過父，只有那從天主來的，纔看見過父。 | 46For no one has seen the Father except the One who comes from God; he has seen the Father. |
| 47我實實在在告訴你們：信從的人，必得永生。 | 47Truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. |
| 48我是生命的食糧。 | 48I am the bread of life. |
| 49你們的祖先在曠野中吃過『瑪納』卻死了； | 49Though your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, they died. |
| 50這是從天上降下來的食糧，誰吃了，就不死。 | 50But here you have the bread which comes from heaven so that you may eat of it and not die. |
| 51我是從天上降下的生活的食糧；誰若吃了這食糧，必要生活直到永遠。」「我所要賜給的食糧，就是我的肉，是為世界的生命而賜給的。」 | 51I am the living bread which has come from heaven; whoever eats of this bread will live forever. The bread I shall give is my flesh and I will give it for the life of the world." |
| 52因此，猶太人彼此爭論說：「這人怎能把他的肉，賜給我們吃呢？」 | 52The Jews were arguing among themselves, "How can this man give us flesh to eat?" |
| 53耶穌向他們說：「我實實在在告訴你們：你們若不吃人子的肉，不喝他的血，在你們內，便沒有生命。 | 53So Jesus replied, "Truly, I say to you, if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. |
| 54誰吃我的肉，並喝我的血，必得永生，在末日，我且要叫他復 活， | 54The one who eats my flesh and drinks my blood live with eternal life and I will raise him up on the last day. |
| 55因為我的肉，是真實的食品；我的血，是真實的飲料。 | 55My flesh is really food and my blood is drink. |
| 56誰吃我的肉，並喝我的血，便住在我內，我也住在他內。 | 56Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood, live in me and I in them. |
| 57就如那生活的父派遣了我，我因父而生活；照樣，那吃我的人，也要因我而生活。 | 57Just as the Father, who is life, sent me and I have life from the Father, so whoever eats me will have life from me. |
| 58這是從天上降下來的食糧，不像祖先吃了『瑪納』仍然死了；誰吃這食糧，必要生活直到永遠。」 | 58This is the bread which came from heaven; unlike that of your ancestors, who ate and later died. Those who eat this bread will live forever." |
| 59這些話是耶穌在葛法翁會堂教訓人時說的。 | 59Jesus spoke in this way in Capernaum when he taught them in the synagogue. |
| 60他的門徒中有許多聽了，便說：「這話生硬，誰能聽得下去呢？」 | 60After hearing this, many of Jesus' followers said, "This language is very hard! Who can accept it?" |
| 61耶穌自知他的門徒對這話竊竊私議，便向他們說：「這話使你們起反感嗎？ | 61Jesus was aware that his disciples were murmuring about this and so he said to them, "Does this offend you? |
| 62那麼，如果你們看到人子昇到他先前所在的地方去，將怎樣呢？ | 62Then how will you react when you see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? |
| 63使生活的是神，肉一無所用；我給你們所講論的話，就是神，就是生命。 | 63It is the spirit that gives life; the flesh cannot help. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. |
| 64但你們中間有些人，卻不相信。」原來，耶穌從起頭就知道那些人不信，和誰要出賣他。 | 64But among you there are some who do not believe." From the beginning, Jesus knew who would betray him. |
| 65所以他又說：「為此，我對你們說過：除非蒙父恩賜的，誰也不能到我這裏來。」 | 65So he added, "As I have told you, no one can come to me unless it is granted by the Father." |
| 66從此，他的門徒中有許多人退去了，不再同他往來。 | 66After this many disciples withdrew and no longer followed him. |
| 67於是耶穌向那十二人說：「難道你們也願走嗎？」 | 67Jesus asked the Twelve, "Will you also go away?" |
| 68西滿伯多祿回答說：「主！惟你有永生的話，我們去投奔誰呢？ | 68Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. |
| 69我們相信，而且已知道你是天主的聖者。」 | 69We now believe and know that you are the Holy One of God." |
| 70耶穌對他們說：「我不是揀選了你們十二個人嗎？你們中卻有一個是魔鬼。」 | 70Jesus said to them, "I chose you, the Twelve, did I not? Yet one of you is a devil." |
| 71他是指依斯加略人西滿的兒子猶達斯說的；因為就是這人，十二人中的一個，將要出賣耶穌。 | 71Jesus spoke of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. He, one of the Twelve, was to betray him. |
