| 1耶穌上了橄欖山。 | 1As for Jesus, he went to the Mount of Olives. |
| 2清晨他又來到聖殿，眾百姓都到他跟前來，他便坐下教訓他們。 | 2At daybreak Jesus appeared in the Temple again. All the people came to him, and he sat down and began to teach them. |
| 3那時，經師和法利塞人帶來了一個犯姦淫時被捉住的婦人，叫她站在中間， | 3Then the teachers of the Law and the Pharisees brought in a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They made her stand in front of everyone. |
| 4便向耶穌說：「師傅！這婦人是正在犯姦淫時被捉住的， | 4"Master," they said, "this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. |
| 5在法律上，梅瑟命令我們該用石頭砸死這樣的婦人；可是，你說什麼呢？」 | 5Now the Law of Moses orders that such women be stoned to death; but you, what do you say?" |
| 6他們說這話，是要試探耶穌，好能控告他；耶穌卻彎下身去，用指頭在地上畫字。 | 6They said this to test Jesus, in order to have some charge against him. Jesus bent down and started writing on the ground with his finger. |
| 7因為他們不斷地追問，他便直起身來，向他們說：「你們中間誰沒有罪，先向她投石罷！」 | 7And as they continued to ask him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let anyone among you who has no sin be the first to throw a stone at her." |
| 8他又彎下身去，在地上寫字。 | 8And he bent down again, writing on the ground. |
| 9他們一聽這話，就從年老的開始到年幼的，一個一個地都溜走了，只留下耶穌一人和站在那裡的婦人。 | 9As a result of these words, they went away, one by one, starting with the elders, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. |
| 10耶穌遂直起身來向她說：「婦人！他們在那裡呢？沒有人定你的罪嗎？」 | 10Then Jesus stood up and said to her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" |
| 11她說：「主！沒有人。」耶穌向她說：「我也不定你的罪；去罷！從今以後，不要再犯罪了！」 | 11She replied, "No one." And Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you; go away and don't sin again." |
| 12耶穌又向眾人講說：「我是世界的光；跟隨我的，決不在黑暗中行走，必有生命的光。」 | 12Jesus spoke to them again, "I am the Light of the world; the one who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have light and life." |
| 13法利塞人於是對他說：「你為你自己作證，你的證據，是不可憑信的。」 | 13The Pharisees replied, "Now you are speaking on your own behalf, your testimony is worthless." |
| 14耶穌回答說：「我即便為我自己作證，我的證據，是可憑信的，因為我知道：我從那裡來，往那裡去；你們卻不知道：我從那裡來，或往那裡去。 | 14Then Jesus said, "Even though I bear witness to myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I have come from and where I am going. But you do not know where I came from or where I am going. |
| 15你們只憑肉眼判斷，我卻不判斷任何人； | 15You judge by human standards; as for me, I don't judge anyone. |
| 16即使我判斷，我的判斷，仍是真實的，因為我不是獨自一個，而是有我，還有派遣我來的父。 | 16But if I had to judge, my judgment would be valid for I am not alone: the Father who sent me is with me. |
| 17在你們的法律上也記載着：兩個人的作證，是可憑信的。 | 17In your Law it is written that the testimony of two witnesses is valid; |
| 18今有我為我自己作證，也有派遣我的父，為我作證。」 | 18so I am bearing witness to myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness to me." |
| 19他們便問他說：「你的父在那裡？」耶穌答覆說：「你們不認識我，也不認識我的父；若是你們認識了我，也就認識我的父了。」 | 19They asked him, "Where is your Father?" Jesus answered, "You don't know me or my Father; if you knew me, you would know my Father as well." |
| 20這些話是耶穌於聖殿施教時，在銀庫院裡所講的。誰也沒有捉拿他，因為他的時辰還沒有到。 | 20Jesus said these things when he was teaching in the Temple area, in the place where they received the offerings. No one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come. |
| 21那時，耶穌又向他們說：「我去了，你們要尋找我，你們必要死在你們的罪惡中；我所去的地方，你們不能去。」 | 21Again Jesus said to them, "I am going away, and though you look for me, you will die in your sin. Where I am going you cannot come." |
| 22猶太人便說：「他說：我所去的地方，你們不能去；莫非他要自殺嗎？」 | 22The Jews wondered, "Why does he say that we can't come where he is going? Will he kill himself?" |
| 23耶穌向他們說：「你們是出於下，我卻是出於上；你們是出於這個世界，我卻不是出於這個世界。 | 23But Jesus said, "You are from below and I am from above; you are of this world and I am not of this world. |
| 24因此，我對你們說過：你們要死在你們的罪惡中。的確，你們若不相信我就是那一位，你們必要死在你們的罪惡中。」 | 24That is why I told you that you will die in your sins. And you shall die in your sins unless you believe that I am He." |
| 25於是，他們問耶穌說：「你到底是誰？」耶穌回答他們說：「難道從起初我沒有對你們講論過嗎？ | 25They asked him, "Who are you?"; and Jesus said, "Just what I have told you from the beginning. |
| 26對你們我有許多事要說，要譴責；但是派遣我來者是真實的；我由他聽來的，我就講給世界聽。」 | 26I have much to say about you and much to condemn; but the One who sent me is truthful and everything I learned from him, I proclaim to the world." |
| 27他們不明白他是在給他們講論父。 | 27They didn't understand that Jesus was speaking to them about the Father. |
| 28耶穌遂說：「當你們高舉了人子以後，你們便知道我就是那一位。我由我自己不作什麼；我所講論的，都是依照父所教訓我的。 | 28So Jesus said, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He and that I do nothing of myself, but I say just what the Father taught me. |
| 29派遣我來者與我在一起，他沒有留下我獨自一個，因為我常作他所喜悅的事。」 | 29He who sent me is with me and has not left me alone; because I always do what pleases him." |
| 30當耶穌講這些話時，許多人便信了他。 | 30As Jesus spoke like this, many believed in him. |
| 31於是，耶穌對那些信他的猶太人說：「你們如果固守我的話，就確是我的門徒， | 31Jesus went on to say to the Jews who believed in him: "You will be my true disciples if you keep my word. |
| 32也會認識真理，而真理必會使你們獲得自由。」 | 32Then you will know the truth and the truth will make you free." |
| 33他們回答說：「我們是亞巴郎的後裔，從未給任何人做過奴隸；怎麼你說：你們要成為自由的呢？」 | 33They answered him, "We are the descendants of Abraham and have never been slaves of anyone. What do you mean by saying: You will be free?" |
| 34耶穌答覆說：「我實實在在告訴你們：凡是犯罪的，就是罪惡的奴隸。 | 34Jesus answered them, "Truly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave. |
| 35奴隸不能永遠住在家裡，兒子卻永遠居住。 | 35But the slave doesn't stay in the house forever; the son stays forever. |
| 36那麼，如果天主子使你們自由了，你們的確是自由的。 | 36So, if the Son makes you free, you will be really free. |
| 37我知道你們是亞巴郎的後裔，你們卻圖謀殺害我，因為你們容納不下我的話。 | 37I know that you are the descendants of Abraham; yet you want to kill me because my word finds no place in you. |
| 38我說的，是我在父那裡所看見的；而你們行的，卻是從你們的父親那裡所學習的。」 | 38For my part I speak of what I have seen in the Father's presence, but you do what you have learned from your father." |
| 39他們回答說：「我們的父親亞巴郎。」耶穌對他們說：「假如你們是亞巴郎的子女，你們就該作亞巴郎所作的事。 | 39They answered him, "Our father is Abraham." Then Jesus said, "If you were Abraham's children, you would do as Abraham did. |
| 40如今，你們竟然圖謀殺害我──這個給你們說出從天主那裡所聽到的真理的人──亞巴郎卻沒有作過這樣的事。 | 40But now you want to kill me, the one who tells you the truth - the truth that I have learned from God. That is not what Abraham did; |
| 41你們正作你們父親的事業。」他們向他說：「我們不是由淫亂生的，我們只有一個父親：就是天主。」 | 41what you are doing are the works of your father." The Jews said to him, "We are not illegitimate children; we have one Father, God." |
| 42耶穌回答說：「假如天主是你們的父親，你們必愛我，因為我是由天主出發而來的，並不是由我自己來的，而是那一位派遣了我。 | 42Jesus replied, "If God were your Father you would love me, for I came forth from God, and I am here. And I didn't come by my own decision, but it was he himself who sent me. |
| 43為什麼你們不明白我的講論呢？無非是你們不肯聽我的話。 | 43Why do you not understand my teaching? It is because you cannot bear my message. |
| 44你們是出於你們的父親魔鬼，並願意追隨你們父親的慾望。從起初，他就是殺人的兇手，不站在真理上，因為在他內沒有真理；他幾時撒謊，正出於他的本性，因為他是撒謊者，而且又是撒謊者的父親。 | 44The father you spring from is the devil and you will carry out the evil wishes of your father, who has been a murderer from the beginning. He didn't uphold the truth for, in him, there is no truth; and now, when he speaks for himself, he lies. He is a liar and the father of lies. |
| 45至於我，因為我說真理，你們卻不信我。 | 45Now I speak the truth and you don't believe me. |
| 46你們中誰能指證我有罪？若是我說真理，為什麼你們卻不信我 呢？ | 46Which of you could find anything false in me? Then, if I speak the truth, why do you not believe me? |
| 47出於天主的，必聽天主的話；你們所以不聽，因為你們不是出於天主。」 | 47He who is of God hears the words of God; you don't hear because you are not of God." |
| 48猶太人遂向他說：「我們說你是個撒瑪黎雅人，並附有魔鬼，豈不正對嗎？」 | 48The Jews retorted, "So we are right in saying that you are a Samaritan and are possessed by a demon." |
| 49耶穌答覆說：「我沒有附魔，我只是尊敬我的父，你們卻侮辱我。 | 49Jesus said, "I am not possessed, and you try to shame me when I give honor to my Father. |
| 50然而，我不尋求我的光榮，有為我尋求而行判斷的一位。 | 50I don't care about my own glory; there is One who cares for me and he will be the judge. |
| 51我實實在在告訴你們：誰如果遵行我的話，永遠見不到死亡。」 | 51Truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never experience death." |
| 52猶太人向他說：「現在我們知道：你附有魔鬼；亞巴郎和先知都死了；你卻說：誰如果遵行我的話，永遠嘗不到死味。 | 52The Jews replied, "Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died and the prophets as well, but you say: 'Whoever keeps my word will never experience death.' Who do you claim to be? |
| 53難道你比我們的父親亞巴郎還大嗎？他死了，先知們也死了。你把你自己當作什麼人呢？」 | 53Do you claim to be greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets also died." |
| 54耶穌答覆說：「我如果光榮我自己，我的光榮算不了什麼；那光榮我的，是我的父，就是你們所稱的『我們的天主』。 | 54Then Jesus said, "If I were to praise myself, it would count for nothing. But he who gives glory to me is the Father, the very one you claim as your God, |
| 55你們不認識他，我卻認識他；我若說我不認識他，我便像你們一樣是個撒謊者；但是，我認識他，也遵守他的話。 | 55although you don't know him. I know him and if I were to say that I don't know him, I would be a liar like you. But I know him and I keep his word. |
| 56你們的父親亞巴郎曾歡欣喜樂地企望看到我的日子，他看見了，極其高興。」 | 56As for Abraham, your ancestor, he looked forward to the day when I would come; and he rejoiced when he saw it." |
| 57猶太人就對他說：「你還沒有五十歲，就見過亞巴郎嗎？」 | 57The Jews then said to him, "You are not yet fifty years old and you have seen Abraham?" |
| 58耶穌回答說：「我實實在在告訴你們：在亞巴郎出現以前，我就有。」 | 58And Jesus said "Truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am." |
| 59他們就拿起石頭來要向他投去；耶穌卻隱沒了，從聖殿裡出去了。 | 59They then picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and left the Temple. |
