| 1耶穌前行時，看見了一個生來瞎眼的人。 | 1As Jesus walked along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth. |
| 2他的門徒就問他說：「辣彼，誰犯了罪？是他，還是他的父母，竟使他生來瞎眼呢？」 | 2His disciples asked him, "Master, was he born blind because of a sin of his, or of his parents?" |
| 3耶穌答覆說：「也不是他犯了罪，也不是他的父母，而是為叫天主的工作，在他身上顯揚出來。 | 3Jesus answered, "Neither was it for his own sin nor for his parents'. He was born blind so that God's power might be shown in him. |
| 4趁着白天，我們應做派遣我來者的工作；黑夜來到，就沒有人能工作了。 | 4While it is day we must do the work of the One who sent me; for the night will come when no one can work. |
| 5當我在世界上的時候，我是世界的光。」 | 5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world." |
| 6耶穌說了這話以後，便吐唾沫在地上，用唾沫和了些泥，把泥抹在瞎子的眼上， | 6As Jesus said this, he made paste with spittle and clay and rubbed it on the eyes of the blind man. |
| 7對他說：「去，到史羅亞水池裏洗洗罷！」──史羅亞解說「被派遣的」──瞎子去了，洗了，回來就看見了。 | 7Then he said, "Go and wash in the Pool of Siloam." (This name means sent.) So he went and washed and came back able to see. |
| 8於是，鄰居和那些素來曾見他討飯的人，就說：「這不那曾坐着討飯的人麼？」 | 8His neighbors and all the people who used to see him begging, wondered. They said, "Isn't this the beggar who used to sit here?" |
| 9有的說：「就是這人」，有的說：「不，是另一個很相似他的人。」那人卻說：「就是我。」他們問他說：「你的眼睛究竟是怎樣開的呢？」 | 9Some said, "It's the one." Others said, "No, but he looks like him." But the man himself said, "I am the one." |
| 10他們問他說：「你的眼睛究竟是怎樣開的呢？」 | 10Then they asked, "How is it that your eyes were opened?" |
| 11他答覆說：「名叫耶穌的那個人，和了些泥，抹在我的眼上，給我說：你往史羅亞去洗洗罷；我去了，洗了，就看見了。」 | 11And he answered, "The man called Jesus made a mud paste, put it on my eyes and said to me: 'Go to Siloam and wash.' So I went, and washed, and I could see." |
| 12他們又問他說：「那個人在那裏？」他說：「我不知道。」 | 12They asked, "Where is he?" and the man answered, "I don't know." |
| 13他們便將先前瞎眼的人，領到法利塞人那裏。 | 13The people brought the man who had been blind to the Pharisees. |
| 14耶穌和泥開他眼睛的那天，正是安息日。 | 14Now it was a sabbath day when Jesus made mud paste and opened his eyes. |
| 15於是，法利塞人又詰問他怎樣看見了。那人就向他們說：「他把泥放在我的眼上，我洗了，就看見了。」 | 15The Pharisees asked him again, "How did you recover your sight?" And he said, "He put paste on my eyes, and I washed, and now I see." |
| 16法利塞人中有的說：「這人不是從天主來的，因為他不遵守安息日。」有的卻說：「一個罪人怎能行這樣的奇跡？」他們中間便發生了紛爭。 | 16Some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, for he works on the sabbath"; but others wondered, "How can a sinner perform such miraculous signs?" They were divided |
| 17於是，他們又問瞎子說：「對於那開了你眼睛的人，你說什麼呢？」瞎子說：「他是一位先知。」 | 17and they questioned the blind man again, "What do you think of this man who opened your eyes?" And he answered, "He is a prophet." |
| 18可是，猶太人不肯相信他先是瞎子而後看見了，等到叫了復明者的父母來， | 18After all this, the Jews refused to believe that the man had been blind and had recovered his sight; so they called his parents |
| 19問他們說：「這是你們的兒子麼？你們說他生來就瞎眼麼？怎麼他現在竟看見了呢？」 | 19and asked them, "Is this your son? You say that he was born blind, how is it that he now sees?" |
| 20他的父母答覆說：「我們知道這是我們的兒子，也生來就瞎。 | 20The parents answered, "He really is our son and he was born blind; |
| 21如今他究竟怎麼看見了，我們卻不知道；或者誰開了他的眼睛，我們也不知道。你們問他罷！他已經成年，會說自己的事了。」 | 21but how it is that he now sees, we don't know, neither do we know who opened his eyes. Ask him, he is old enough. Let him speak for himself." |
| 22他的父母因為害怕猶太人，纔這樣說，因為猶太人早已議定：誰若承認耶穌是默西亞，就必被逐出會堂。 | 22The parents said this because they feared the Jews who had already agreed that whoever confessed Jesus to be the Christ was to be expelled. |
| 23為此，他的父母說：他已經成年，你們問他罷！ | 23Because of this his parents said, "He is old enough, ask him." |
| 24於是法利塞人再把那先前瞎眼的人叫過來，向他說：「歸光榮於天主罷！我們知道這人是個罪人。」 | 24So a second time the Pharisees called the man who had been blind, and they said to him, "Tell us the truth; we know that this man is a sinner." |
| 25那人回答說：「他是不是罪人，我不知道；有一件事我知道：我曾是個瞎子，現在我卻看見了。」 | 25He replied, "I don't know whether he is a sinner or not; I only know that I was blind and now I see." |
| 26他們又問他說：「他給你作了什麼？怎樣開了你的眼睛？」 | 26They said to him, "What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?" |
| 27他回答說：「我已經告訴了你們，你們不聽；為什麼又願意聽呢？莫非你們也願意做他的門徒麼？」 | 27He replied, "I have told you already and you would not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?" |
| 28他們辱罵他說：「你去做他的門徒好了！我們是梅瑟的門徒。 | 28Then they started to insult him. "Become his disciple yourself! We are disciples of Moses. |
| 29我們知道：天主曾給梅瑟說過話；至於這人，我們不知道他是從那裏來的。」 | 29We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man we don't know where he comes from." |
| 30那人回答說：「這真奇怪！你們不知道他是從那裏來的，他卻開了我的眼睛。 | 30The man replied, "It is amazing that you don't know where the man comes from, and yet he opened my eyes! |
| 31我們都曉得天主不俯聽罪人，只俯聽那恭敬天主，並承行他旨意的人。 | 31We know that God doesn't listen to sinners, but if anyone honors God and does his will, God listens to him. |
| 32自古以來從未聽說：有人開了生來就是瞎子的眼睛。 | 32Never, since the world began, has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person who was born blind. |
| 33這人若不是由天主來的，他什麼也不能作。」 | 33If this man were not from God, he could do nothing." |
| 34他們卻向他說：「你整個生於罪惡中，竟來教訓我們？」便把他趕出去了。 | 34They answered him, "You were born a sinner and now you teach us!" And they expelled him. |
| 35耶穌聽說他們把他趕出去了，後來遇見了他，就給他說：「你信人子麼？」 | 35Jesus heard that they had expelled him. He found him and said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?" |
| 36那人便回答說：「主，是誰，好使我去信他呢？」 | 36He answered, "Who is he, that I may believe in him?" |
| 37耶穌對他說：「你已看見他了，和你講話的就是！」 | 37Jesus said, "You have seen him and he is speaking to you. |
| 38他遂說道：「主，我信。」遂俯伏朝拜了耶穌。 | 38He said, "Lord, I believe"; and he worshiped him. |
| 39耶穌遂說：「我是為了判別，纔到這世界上來，叫那些看不見的，看得見；叫那些看得見的，反而成為瞎子。」 | 39Jesus said, "I came into this world to carry out a judgment: Those who do not see shall see, and those who see shall become blind." |
| 40有些和他在一起的法利塞人，一聽了這話，就說：「難道我們也是瞎子麼？」 | 40Some Pharisees stood by and asked him, "So we are blind?" |
| 41耶穌回答說：「你們如果是瞎子，就沒有罪了；但你們如今說：我們看得見，你們的罪惡便存留下了。」 | 41And Jesus answered, "If you were blind, you would not be guilty. Now you say: 'We see'; this is the proof of your sin." |
