| 1上主的話再次傳給約納說： | 1The word of Yahweh came to Jonah a second time: |
| 2「你起身往尼尼微大城去，向他們宣告我曉諭你的事。」 | 2"Go to Nineveh, the great city, and announce to them the message I give you." |
| 3約納便依從上主的話，起身去了尼尼微。尼尼微在天主前是一座大城，需要三天的行程。 | 3In obedience to the word of Yahweh, Jonah went to Nineveh. It was a very large city, and it took three days just to cross it. |
| 4約納開始進城，行了一天的路程，宣佈說：「還有四十天，尼尼微就要毀滅了。」 | 4So Jonah walked a single day's journey and began proclaiming, "Forty days more and Nineveh will be destroyed." |
| 5尼尼微人便信仰了天主，立即宣佈禁食，從大到小，都身披苦衣。 | 5The people of the city believed God. They declared a fast, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth. |
| 6當這消息傳到尼尼微王那裏，他便起來，離開自己的寶座，脫去長服，披上苦衣，坐在灰土中； | 6Upon hearing the news, the king of Nineveh got up from his throne, took off his royal robe, put on sackcloth and sat down in ashes. |
| 7然後命人以君王的諭令和其大臣的名義，在尼尼微宣佈說：「人、牲畜、牛羊，都不可吃什麼；不可牧放，也不可喝水。 | 7He issued a proclamation throughout Nineveh: "By the decree of the king and his nobles, no people or beasts, herd or flock, will taste anything; neither will they eat nor drink. |
| 8人和牲畜，都應身披苦衣，人要懇切呼求天主，更要轉離自己的邪路，放棄手中的暴行。 | 8But let people and beasts be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call aloud to God, turn from his evil ways and violence. |
| 9誰知道天主也許會轉意憐憫，收回自己的烈怒，使我們不致滅亡。」 | 9Who knows? God may yet relent, turn from his fierce anger and spare us." |
| 10天主看到他們所行的事，看到他們離開了自己的邪路，遂憐憫他們，不將已宣佈的災禍，降在他們身上。 | 10When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he had compassion and did not carry out the destruction he had threatened upon them. |
