¹當黑落德為王時，耶穌誕生在猶大的白冷；看，有賢士從東方來到耶路撒冷，	¹When Jesus was born in Bethlehem, in Judea, during the days of King Herod, wise men from the east arrived in Jerusalem.
²說：「纔誕生的猶太人君王在那裡？我們在東方見到了他的星，特來朝拜他。」	²They asked, "Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw the rising of his star in the east and have come to honor him."
³黑落德王一聽說，就驚慌起來，全耶路撒冷也同他一起驚慌。	³When Herod heard this he was greatly disturbed and with him all Jerusalem.
⁴他便召集了眾司祭長和民間的經師，仔細考問他們：默西亞應當生在那裡。	⁴He immediately called a meeting of all high-ranking priests and those who taught the people of God his Law, and asked them where the Messiah was to be born.
⁵他們對他說：「在猶大的白冷，因為先知曾這樣記載：	⁵"In the town of Bethlehem in Judea," they told him, "for this is what the prophet wrote:
⁶『你猶大地白冷啊！你在猶大的郡邑中，決不是最小的，因為將由你出來一位領袖，他將牧養我的百姓以色列。』」	⁶And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, you are by no means the least among the clans of Judah, for from you will come a leader, the one who is to shepherd my people Israel."
⁷於是黑落德暗暗把賢士叫來，仔細詢問他們那星出現的時間；	⁷Then Herod secretly called the wise men and asked them the precise time the star appeared.
⁸然後打發他們往白冷去，說：「你們去仔細尋訪嬰孩，幾時找到了，給我報信，好讓我也去朝拜他。」	⁸Then he sent them to Bethlehem with the instruction, "Go and get precise information about the child. As soon as you have found him, report to me, so that I too may go and honor him."
⁹他們聽了王的話，就走了。看，他們在東方所見的那星，走在他們前面，直至來到嬰孩所在的地方，就停在上面。	⁹After the meeting with the king, they set out. The star that they had seen in the East went ahead of them and stopped over the place where the child was.
¹⁰他們一見到那星，極其高興歡喜。	¹⁰The wise men were overjoyed on seeing the star again.
¹¹他們走進屋內，看見嬰兒和他的母親瑪利亞，遂俯伏朝拜了他，打開自己的寶匣，給他奉獻了禮物，即黃金、乳香和沒藥。	¹¹They went into the house and when they saw the child with Mary his mother, they knelt and worshiped him. They opened their bags and offered him their gifts of gold, incense and myrrh.
¹²他們在夢中得到指示，不要回到黑落德那裡，就由另一條路返回自己的地方去了。	¹²In a dream they were warned not to go back to Herod, so they returned to their home country by another way.
¹³他們離去後，看，上主的天使托夢顯於若瑟說：「起來，帶着嬰孩和他的母親逃往埃及去，住在那裡，直到我再通知你，因為黑落德即將尋找這嬰孩，要把他殺掉。」	¹³After the wise men had left, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph and said, "Get up, take the child and his mother and flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you for Herod will soon be looking for the child in order to kill him."
¹⁴若瑟便起來，星夜帶了嬰孩和他的母親，退避到埃及去了。	¹⁴Joseph got up, took the child and his mother, and left that night for Egypt,
¹⁵留在那裡，直到黑落德死去。這就應驗了上主藉先知所說的話：「我從埃及召回了我的兒子。」	¹⁵where he stayed until the death of Herod. In this way, what the Lord had said through the prophet was fulfilled: I called my son out of Egypt.
¹⁶那時，黑落德見自己受了賢士們的愚弄，就大發忿怒，依照他由賢士們所探得的時期，差人將白冷及其周圍境內所有兩歲及兩歲以下的嬰兒殺死，	¹⁶When Herod found out that he had been tricked by the wise men, he was furious. He gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its neighborhood who were two years old or under. This was done in line with what he had learned from the wise men about the time when the star appeared.
¹⁷於是應驗了耶肋米亞先知所說的話：	¹⁷In this way, what the prophet Jeremiah had said was fulfilled:
¹⁸「在辣瑪聽到了聲音，痛哭哀號不止；辣黑耳痛哭她的子女，不願受人的安慰，因為他們不在了。」	¹⁸A cry is heard in Ramah, wailing and loud lamentation: Rachel weeps for her children. She refuses to be comforted, for they are no more.
¹⁹黑落德死後，看，上主的天使在埃及托夢顯於若瑟，	¹⁹After Herod's death, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph and said,
²⁰說：「起來，帶着孩子和他的母親，往以色列地去，因為那些謀殺孩子性命的人死了。」	²⁰"Get up, take the child and his mother and go back to the land of Israel, because those who tried to kill the child are dead."
²¹他便起來，帶了孩子和他的母親，進了以色列地域；	²¹So Joseph got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel.
²²但是一聽說阿爾赫勞繼他父親黑落德作了猶太王，就害怕到那裡去；夢中得了指示後，便退避到加里肋亞境內，	²²But when Joseph heard that Archilaus had succeeded his father Herod as king of Judea, he was afraid to go there. He was given further instructions in a dream, and went to the region of Galilee.
²³去住在一座名叫納匝肋的城中，如此應驗了先知們所說的話：「他將稱為納匝肋人。」	²³There he settled in a town called Nazareth. In this way what was said by the prophets was fulfilled: He shall be called a Nazorean.
