1The words of Jeremiah, son of Hilkiah, of a priestly family in Anathoth, in the land of Benjamin. |
| 2上主的話傳給他，是在阿孟的兒子約史雅為猶大王執政第十三年； |
2The word of the LORD first came to him in the days of Josiah, son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign, |
| 3以後傳給他，是在約史雅的兒子約雅金為猶大王，直到約史雅的兒子漆德克雅為猶大王第十一年年底，即直到是年五月，耶路撒冷居民被擄去充軍時為止。 |
3 and continued through the reign of Jehoiakim, son of Josiah, king of Judah, and until the downfall and exile of Jerusalem in the fifth month of the eleventh year of Zedekiah, son of Josiah, king of Judah. |

4The word of the LORD came to me thus: |
| 5「我還沒有在母腹內形成你以前，我已認識了你；在你還沒有出離母胎以前，我已祝聖了你，選定了你作萬民的先知。」 |
5 Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you. |
| 6我回答說：「哎呀！我主上主！你看，我還太年輕，不會說話。」 |
6 "Ah, Lord GOD!" I said, "I know not how to speak; I am too young." |
| 7上主對我說：「你別說：我太年輕，因為我派你到那裏去，你就應到那裏去；我命你說甚麼，你就應說甚麼。 |
7But the LORD answered me, Say not, "I am too young." To whomever I send you, you shall go; whatever I command you, you shall speak. |
| 8你不要害怕他們，因為有我與你同在，保護你──上主的斷語。」 |
8Have no fear before them, because I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD. |
| 9此後，上主伸出手來，觸摸我的口，對我說；「看，我將我的話放在你口中； |
9Then the LORD extended his hand and touched my mouth, saying, See, I place my words in your mouth! |
| 10看，我今天委派你對萬民和列國，執行拔除、破壞、毀滅、推翻、建設和栽培的任務。」 |
10This day I set you over nations and over kingdoms, To root up and to tear down, to destroy and to demolish, to build and to plant. |
| 11上主的話傳給我說：「耶肋米亞！你看見甚麼？」我回答說：「我看見一根杏樹枝。」 |
11 The word of the LORD came to me with the question: What do you see, Jeremiah? "I see a branch of the watching-tree," I replied. |
| 12上主對我說：「你看的對，因為我要警醒，看我的話怎樣實現。」 |
12Then the LORD said to me: Well have you seen, for I am watching to fulfill my word. |
| 13上主的話二次傳給我說：「你看見甚麼？」我回答說：「我看見一個沸騰的鍋，它的口由北面傾倒過來。」 |
13 A second time the word of the LORD came to me with the question: What do you see? "I see a boiling cauldron," I replied, "that appears from the north." |
| 14上主對我說：「災禍將由北方燒起，一直燒到這地上的一切居民。 |
14And from the north, said the LORD to me, evil will boil over upon all who dwell in the land. |
| 15看啊，我必召集北方的一切國家──上主的斷語──叫各國前來，在耶路撒冷城門口，在城牆四周以及猶大各城市旁，建立自己的寶座。 |
15Lo, I am summoning all the kingdoms of the north, says the LORD; Each king shall come and set up his throne at the gateways of Jerusalem, Opposite her walls all around and opposite all the cities of Judah. |
| 16我要向各城市的人民宣告我的判決，懲罰他們的一切罪惡，因為他們離棄我，向別的神祇獻香，崇拜了他們手製的作品。 |
16I will pronounce my sentence against them for all their wickedness in forsaking me, And in burning incense to strange gods and adoring their own handiwork. |
| 17至於你，你要束上腰，起來向他們傳示我命令你的一切。在他們面前，你不要畏懼，免得我在他們面前令你畏懼。 |
17But do you gird your loins; stand up and tell them all that I command you. Be not crushed on their account, as though I would leave you crushed before them; |
| 18看啊，我今天使你成為堅城、銅牆、鐵壁，以對抗猶大君王和首領，司祭和當地的人民。 |
18For it is I this day who have made you a fortified city, A pillar of iron, a wall of brass, against the whole land: Against Judah's kings and princes, against its priests and people. |
| 19他們要攻擊你，卻不能得勝你，因為有我與你同在，協助你──上主的斷語。」 |
19They will fight against you, but not prevail over you, for I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD. |
