| 1上主對亞巴郎說：「離開你的故鄉、你的家族和父家，往我指給你的地方去。 | 1The LORD said to Abram: "Go forth from the land of your kinsfolk and from your father's house to a land that I will show you. |
| 2我要使你成為一個大民族，我必祝福你，使你成名，成為一個福源。 | 2"I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. |
| 3我要祝福那祝福你的人，咒罵那咒罵你的人；地上萬民都要因你獲得祝福。」 | 3 I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. All the communities of the earth shall find blessing in you." |
| 4亞巴郎遂照上主的吩咐起了身，羅特也同他一起走了。亞巴郎離開哈蘭時，已七十五歲。 | 4Abram went as the LORD directed him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. |
| 5他帶了妻子撒辣依、他兄弟的兒子羅特和他在哈蘭積蓄的財物，獲得的僕婢，一同往客納罕地去，終於到了客納罕地。 | 5 Abram took his wife Sarai, his brother's son Lot, all the possessions that they had accumulated, and the persons they had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan. When they came to the land of Canaan, |
| 6亞巴郎經過那地，直到了舍根地摩勒橡樹區；當時客納罕人尚住在那地方。 | 6Abram passed through the land as far as the sacred place at Shechem, by the terebinth of Moreh. (The Canaanites were then in the land.) |
| 7上主顯現給亞巴郎說：「我要將這地方賜給你的後裔。」亞巴郎就在那裡給顯現於他的上主，築了一座祭壇。 | 7The LORD appeared to Abram and said, "To your descendants I will give this land." So Abram built an altar there to the LORD who had appeared to him. |
| 8從那裡又遷移到貝特耳東面山區，在那裡搭了帳幕，西有貝特耳，東有哈依；他在那裡又為上主築了一座祭壇，呼求上主的名。 | 8From there he moved on to the hill country east of Bethel, pitching his tent with Bethel to the west and Ai to the east. He built an altar there to the LORD and invoked the LORD by name. |
| 9以後亞巴郎漸漸移往乃革布區。 | 9 Then Abram journeyed on by stages to the Negeb. |
| 10其時那地方起了饑荒，亞巴郎遂下到埃及，寄居在那裡，因為那地方饑荒十分嚴重。 | 10There was famine in the land; so Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, since the famine in the land was severe. |
| 11當他要進埃及時，對妻子撒辣依說：「我知道你是個貌美的女人； | 11When he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai: "I know well how beautiful a woman you are. |
| 12埃及人見了你，必要說：這是他的妻子；他們定要殺我，讓你活著。 | 12When the Egyptians see you, they will say, 'She is his wife'; then they will kill me, but let you live. |
| 13所以請你說：你是我的妹妹，這樣我因了你而必獲優待，賴你的情面，保全我的生命。」 | 13 Please say, therefore, that you are my sister, so that it may go well with me on your account and my life may be spared for your sake." |
| 14果然，當亞巴郎一到了埃及，埃及人就注意了這女人實在美麗。 | 14When Abram came to Egypt, the Egyptians saw how beautiful the woman was; and when Pharaoh's courtiers saw her, |
| 15法郎的朝臣也看見了她，就在法郎前讚她美麗；這女人就被帶入法郎的宮中。 | 15they praised her to Pharaoh. So she was taken into Pharaoh's palace. |
| 16亞巴郎因了她果然蒙了優待，得了些牛羊、公驢、僕婢、母驢和駱駝。 | 16 On her account it went very well with Abram, and he received flocks and herds, male and female slaves, male and female asses, and camels. |
| 17但是，上主為了亞巴郎的妻子撒辣依的事，降下大難打擊了法郎和他全家。 | 17But the LORD struck Pharaoh and his household with severe plagues because of Abram's wife Sarai. |
| 18法郎遂叫亞巴郎來說：「你對我作的是什麼事？為什麼你沒有告訴我，她是你的妻子？ | 18Then Pharaoh summoned Abram and said to him: "How could you do this to me! Why didn't you tell me she was your wife? |
| 19為什麼你說：她是我的妹妹，以致我娶了她做我的妻子？現在，你的妻子在這裡，你帶她去罷！」 | 19Why did you say, 'She is my sister,' so that I took her for my wife? Here, then, is your wife. Take her and be gone!" |
| 20法郎於是吩咐人送走了亞巴郎和他的妻子以及他所有的一切。 | 20Then Pharaoh gave men orders concerning him, and they sent him on his way, with his wife and all that belonged to him. |
