| 3他由乃革布逐漸往貝特耳移動帳幕，到了先前他在貝特耳與哈依之間，支搭帳幕的地方， | 3From the Negeb he traveled by stages toward Bethel, to the place between Bethel and Ai where his tent had formerly stood, |
| 4亦即他先前築了祭壇，呼求上主之名的地方。 | 4the site where he had first built the altar; and there he invoked the LORD by name. |
| 5與亞巴郎同行的羅特，也有羊群、牛群和帳幕， | 5Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents, |
| 6那地方容不下他們住在一起，因為他們的產業太多，無法住在一起。 | 6so that the land could not support them if they stayed together; their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together. |
| 7牧放亞巴郎牲畜的人與牧放羅特牲畜的人，時常發生口角，──當時客納罕人和培黎齊人尚住在那裡。 | 7There were quarrels between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and those of Lot's. (At this time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were occupying the land.) |
| 8亞巴郎遂對羅特說：「在我與你，我的牧人與你的牧人之間，請不要發生口角，因為我們是至親。 | 8So Abram said to Lot: "Let there be no strife between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are kinsmen. |
| 9所有的地方不是都在你面前嗎？請你與我分開。你若往左，我就往右；你若往右，我就往左。」 | 9Is not the whole land at your disposal? Please separate from me. If you prefer the left, I will go to the right; if you prefer the right, I will go to the left." |
| 10羅特舉目看見約但河整個平原，直到左哈爾一帶全有水灌溉，──這是在上主消滅索多瑪和哈摩辣以前的事，──有如上主的樂園，有如埃及地。 | 10Lot looked about and saw how well watered the whole Jordan Plain was as far as Zoar, like the LORD'S own garden, or like Egypt. (This was before the LORD had destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) |
| 11羅特選了約但河的整個平原，遂向東方遷移；這樣，他們就彼此分開了： | 11Lot, therefore, chose for himself the whole Jordan Plain and set out eastward. Thus they separated from each other; |
| 12亞巴郎住在客納罕地；羅特住在平原的城市中，漸漸移動帳幕，直到索多瑪。 | 12Abram stayed in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled among the cities of the Plain, pitching his tents near Sodom. |
| 13索多瑪人在上主面前罪大惡極。 | 13Now the inhabitants of Sodom were very wicked in the sins they committed against the LORD. |
| 14羅特與亞巴郎分離以後，上主對亞巴郎說：「請你舉起眼來，由你所在的地方，向東西南北觀看； | 14After Lot had left, the LORD said to Abram: "Look about you, and from where you are, gaze to the north and south, east and west; |
| 15凡你看見的地方，我都要永遠賜給你和你的後裔。 | 15all the land that you see I will give to you and your descendants forever. |
| 16我要使你的後裔有如地上的灰塵；如果人能數清地上的灰塵，也能數清你的後裔。 | 16I will make your descendants like the dust of the earth; if anyone could count the dust of the earth, your descendants too might be counted. |
| 17你起來，縱橫走遍這地，因為我要將這地賜給你。」 | 17Set forth and walk about in the land, through its length and breadth, for to you I will give it." |
| 18於是亞巴郎移動了帳幕，來到赫貝龍的瑪默勒橡樹區居住，在那裡給上主築了一座祭壇。 | 18Abram moved his tents and went on to settle near the terebinth of Mamre, which is at Hebron. There he built an altar to the LORD. |
