| 4亞巴郎自從同哈加爾親近，哈加爾就懷了孕；她見自己懷了孕；就看不起自己的主母。 | 4He had intercourse with her, and she became pregnant. When she became aware of her pregnancy, she looked on her mistress with disdain. |
| 5撒辣依對亞巴郎說：「我受羞辱是你的過錯。我將我的婢女放在你懷裡，她一見自己懷了孕，便看不起我。願上主在我與你之間來判斷！」 | 5So Sarai said to Abram: "You are responsible for this outrage against me. I myself gave my maid to your embrace; but ever since she became aware of her pregnancy, she has been looking on me with disdain. May the LORD decide between you and me!" |
| 6亞巴郎對撒辣依說：「你的婢女是在你手中；你看怎樣好，就怎樣待她罷！」於是撒辣依就虐待她，她便由撒辣依面前逃跑了。 | 6Abram told Sarai: "Your maid is in your power. Do to her whatever you please." Sarai then abused her so much that Hagar ran away from her. |
| 7上主的使者在曠野的水泉旁，即在往叔爾道上的水泉旁，遇見了她， | 7 The LORD'S messenger found her by a spring in the wilderness, the spring on the road to Shur, |
| 8對她說：「撒辣依的婢女哈加爾！你從那裡來，要往那裡去？」她答說：「我由我主母撒辣依那裡逃出來的。」 | 8and he asked, "Hagar, maid of Sarai, where have you come from and where are you going?" She answered, "I am running away from my mistress, Sarai." |
| 9上主的使者對她說：「你要回到你主母那裡，屈服在她手下。」 | 9But the LORD'S messenger told her: "Go back to your mistress and submit to her abusive treatment. |
| 10上主的使者又對她說：「我要使你的後裔繁衍，多得不可勝數。」 | 10I will make your descendants so numerous," added the LORD'S messenger, "that they will be too many to count. |
| 11上主的使者再對她說：「看，你已懷孕，要生個兒子；要給他起名叫依市瑪耳，因為上主俯聽了你的苦訴。 | 11 Besides," the LORD'S messenger said to her: "You are now pregnant and shall bear a son; you shall name him Ishmael, For the LORD has heard you, God has answered you. |
| 12他將來為人，像頭野驢；他要反對眾人，眾人也要反對他；他要衝著自己的眾兄弟支搭帳幕。」 | 12He shall be a wild ass of a man, his hand against everyone, and everyone's hand against him; In opposition to all his kin shall he encamp." |
| 13哈加爾遂給那對她說話的上主起名叫「你是看顧人的天主」，因為她說：「我不是也看見了那看顧人的天主嗎？」 | 13 To the LORD who spoke to her she gave a name, saying, "You are the God of Vision"; she meant, "Have I really seen God and remained alive after my vision?" |
| 14為此她給那井起名叫拉海洛依井。這井是在卡德士與貝勒得之間。 | 14 That is why the well is called Beer-lahai-roi. It is between Kadesh and Bered. |
| 15哈加爾給亞巴郎生了一個兒子，亞巴郎給哈加爾所生的兒子，起名叫依市瑪耳。 | 15Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram named the son whom Hagar bore him Ishmael. |
| 16哈加爾給亞巴郎生依市瑪耳時，亞巴郎已八十六歲。 | 16Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael. |
