1The two angels reached Sodom in the evening, as Lot was sitting at the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he got up to greet them; and bowing down with his face to the ground, |
| 2說：「請二位先生下到你們僕人家中住一夜，洗洗你們的腳；明天早起，再趕你們的路。」他們答說：「不，我們願在街上過宿。」 |
2 he said, "Please, gentlemen, come aside into your servant's house for the night, and bathe your feet; you can get up early to continue your journey." But they replied, "No, we shall pass the night in the town square." |
| 3但因羅特極力邀請，他們才轉身跟著進了他的家。羅特為他們備辦了宴席，烤了無酵餅；他們就吃了。 |
3He urged them so strongly, however, that they turned aside to his place and entered his house. He prepared a meal for them, baking cakes without leaven, and they dined. |
| 4他們尚未就寢，閤城的人，即索多瑪男人，不論年輕年老的，沒有例外，全都來圍住他的家， |
4Before they went to bed, all the townsmen of Sodom, both young and old--all the people to the last man--closed in on the house. |
| 5向羅特喊說：「今晚來到你這裡的那兩個男人在那裡？給我們領出來，叫我們好認識他們。」 |
5They called to Lot and said to him, "Where are the men who came to your house tonight? Bring them out to us that we may have intimacies with them." |
| 6羅特就出來，隨手關上門，到門口見他們， |
6Lot went out to meet them at the entrance. When he had shut the door behind him, |
| 7說：「我的弟兄們！請你們切不可作惡。 |
7he said, "I beg you, my brothers, not to do this wicked thing. |
| 8看，我有兩個女兒，尚未認識過男人，容我領出她們來，任憑你們對待她們；只是這兩個男人，既然來到舍下，請你們不要對他們行事。」 |
8I have two daughters who have never had intercourse with men. Let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them as you please. But don't do anything to these men, for you know they have come under the shelter of my roof." |
| 9他們反說：「滾開！」繼而說：「來這裡的這個外方人，居然做起判官來！現在我們待你比他們還要厲害。」他們遂用力向羅特衝去，一齊向前要打破那門。 |
9They replied, "Stand back! This fellow," they sneered, "came here as an immigrant, and now he dares to give orders! We'll treat you worse than them!" With that, they pressed hard against Lot, moving in closer to break down the door. |
| 10那兩個人卻伸出手來，將羅特拉進屋內，關上了門； |
10But his guests put out their hands, pulled Lot inside with them, and closed the door; |
| 11又使那些在屋門口的男人，無論大小都迷了眼，找不著門口。 |
11 at the same time they struck the men at the entrance of the house, one and all, with such a blinding light that they were utterly unable to reach the doorway. |
| 12那兩個人對羅特說：「你這裡還有什麼人？帶你的女婿、兒女，以及城中你所有的人，離開這地方， |
12 Then the angels said to Lot: "Who else belongs to you here? Your sons (sons-in-law) and your daughters and all who belong to you in the city--take them away from it! |
| 13因為我們要毀滅這地方；由於在上主面前控告他們的聲音實在大，所以上主派遣我們來毀滅這地方。」 |
13We are about to destroy this place, for the outcry reaching the LORD against those in the city is so great that he has sent us to destroy it." |
| 14羅特遂出去，告訴要娶他女兒的兩個女婿說：「起來，離開這地方，因為上主要毀滅這城！」但他的兩個女婿卻以為他在開玩笑。 |
14 So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had contracted marriage with his daughters. "Get up and leave this place," he told them; "the LORD is about to destroy the city." But his sons-in-law thought he was joking. |
| 15天一亮，兩位使者就催促羅特說：「起來，快領你的妻子和你這裡的兩個女兒逃走，免得你因這城的罪惡同遭滅亡。」 |
15As dawn was breaking, the angels urged Lot on, saying, "On your way! Take with you your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away in the punishment of the city." |
| 16羅特仍遲延不走；但因為上主憐恤他，那兩個人就拉著他的手，他妻子的和他兩個女兒的手領出城外。 |
16When he hesitated, the men, by the LORD'S mercy, seized his hand and the hands of his wife and his two daughters and led them to safety outside the city. |
| 17二人領他們到城外，其中一個說：「快快逃命，不要往後看，也不要在平原任何地方站住；該逃往山中，免得同遭滅亡。」 |
17As soon as they had been brought outside, he was told: "Flee for your life! Don't look back or stop anywhere on the Plain. Get off to the hills at once, or you will be swept away." |
| 18羅特對他們說：「啊！不，我主！ |
18"Oh, no, my lord!" replied Lot. |
| 19你僕人既蒙你垂愛，又蒙你大顯仁慈，得以保全我的性命；但是現在我不能逃往山中，怕遇見災禍死去。 |
19"You have already thought enough of your servant to do me the great kindness of intervening to save my life. But I cannot flee to the hills to keep the disaster from overtaking me, and so I shall die. |
| 20看這座城很近，容我逃往那裡，那只是一座小城；請容我逃往那裡；那不只是一座小城嗎？在那裡我可保全性命。」 |
20 Look, this town ahead is near enough to escape to. It's only a small place. Let me flee there--it's a small place, isn't it?--that my life may be saved." |
| 21其中一個對他說：「好罷！連在這事上我也顧全你的臉面，我必不消滅你提及的這座城。 |
21"Well, then," he replied, "I will also grant you the favor you now ask. I will not overthrow the town you speak of. |
| 22你趕快逃往那裡，因為你不到那裡，我不能行事。」為此那城稱為左哈爾。 |
22Hurry, escape there! I cannot do anything until you arrive there." That is why the town is called Zoar. |
| 23羅特到了左哈爾時，太陽已升出地面； |
23The sun was just rising over the earth as Lot arrived in Zoar; |
| 24上主遂使硫磺和火，從天上上主那裡，降於索多瑪和哈摩辣， |
24at the same time the LORD rained down sulphurous fire upon Sodom and Gomorrah (from the LORD out of heaven). |
| 25毀滅了這幾座城市和整個平原，以及城中所有的居民和地上的草木。 |
25 He overthrew those cities and the whole Plain, together with the inhabitants of the cities and the produce of the soil. |
| 26羅特的妻子因回頭觀看，立即變為鹽柱。 |
26But Lot's wife looked back, and she was turned into a pillar of salt. |
| 27亞巴郎清晨起來，到了以前他立在上主面前的地方， |
27Early the next morning Abraham went to the place where he had stood in the LORD'S presence. |
| 28向索多瑪和哈摩辣，以及整個平原一帶眺望，看見那地煙火上騰，有如燒窰一般。 |
28 As he looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah and the whole region of the Plain, he saw dense smoke over the land rising like fumes from a furnace. |
| 29當天主毀滅平原諸城，消滅羅特所住的城市時，想起了亞巴郎，由滅亡中救了羅特。 |
29Thus it came to pass: when God destroyed the Cities of the Plain, he was mindful of Abraham by sending Lot away from the upheaval by which God overthrew the cities where Lot had been living. |
| 30羅特因為怕住在左哈爾，便與他的兩個女兒離開左哈爾，上了山住在那裡；他和兩個女兒同住在一個山洞裡。 |
30 Since Lot was afraid to stay in Zoar, he and his two daughters went up from Zoar and settled in the hill country, where he lived with his two daughters in a cave. |
| 31長女對幼女說：「我們的父親已經老了，地上又沒有男人依照世界上的禮俗來與我們親近。 |
31The older one said to the younger: "Our father is getting old, and there is not a man on earth to unite with us as was the custom everywhere. |
| 32來讓我們用酒將父親灌醉，與他同睡：這樣我們可由父親傳生後代。」 |
32Come, let us ply our father with wine and then lie with him, that we may have offspring by our father." |
| 33那天夜裡，她們就用酒將父親灌醉；長女遂進去與父親同睡；女兒幾時臥下，幾時起來，他都不知道。 |
33So that night they plied their father with wine, and the older one went in and lay with her father; but he was not aware of her lying down or her getting up. |
| 34第二天，長女對幼女說：「看，昨夜我與父親同睡了，今夜我們再用酒灌醉他，你好進去與他同睡，由我們的父親傳生後代。」 |
34Next day the older one said to the younger: "Last night it was I who lay with my father. Let us ply him with wine again tonight, and then you go in and lie with him, that we may both have offspring by our father." |
| 35那天夜裡，她們又用酒將父親灌醉，幼女遂進去與他同睡；女兒幾時臥下，幾時起來，他都不知道。 |
35So that night, too, they plied their father with wine, and then the younger one went in and lay with him; but again he was not aware of her lying down or her getting up. |
| 36這樣，羅特的兩個女兒都由父親懷了孕。 |
36Thus both of Lot's daughters became pregnant by their father. |
| 37長女生了一個兒子，給他起名叫摩阿布，是現今摩阿布人的始祖； |
37 The older one gave birth to a son whom she named Moab, saying, "From my father." He is the ancestor of the Moabites of today. |
| 38幼女也生了一個兒子，給他起名叫本阿米，是現今阿孟子民的始祖。 |
38 The younger one, too, gave birth to a son, and she named him Ammon, saying, "The son of my kin." He is the ancestor of the Ammonites of today. |
