| 1雅各伯取道前行，來到了東方人的地方； |
1 After Jacob resumed his journey, he came to the land of the Easterners. |
| 2舉目看見田間有口井，還有三群羊，臥在井旁。──因為人慣常由這井取水飲羊，井口上蓋著塊大石頭； |
2Looking about, he saw a well in the open country, with three droves of sheep huddled near it, for droves were watered from that well. A large stone covered the mouth of the well. |
| 3幾時羊群都聚集在那裡，人就將井口的石頭挪開，取水飲羊；然後再將石頭蓋在井口原處。 |
3Only when all the shepherds were assembled there could they roll the stone away from the mouth of the well and water the flocks. Then they would put the stone back again over the mouth of the well. |
| 4雅各伯對他們說：「弟兄們，你們是那裡的？」他們答說：「我們是哈蘭人。」 |
4Jacob said to them, "Friends, where are you from?" "We are from Haran," they replied. |
| 5雅各伯問他們說：「你們認識納曷爾的兒子拉班嗎？」他們答說：「我們認識。」 |
5Then he asked them, "Do you know Laban, son of Nahor?" "We do," they answered. |
| 6雅各伯又問說：「他好嗎？」他們答說：「他好。看，那不是他的女兒辣黑耳領著羊群來了。」 |
6He inquired further, "Is he well?" "He is," they answered; "and here comes his daughter Rachel with his flock." |
| 7雅各伯說：「看，太陽還很高，尚不到聚集家畜的時候，你們取水飲了羊，然後再領去牧放。」 |
7Then he said: "There is still much daylight left; it is hardly the time to bring the animals home. Why don't you water the flocks now, and then continue pasturing them?" |
| 8他們回答說：「不能夠；因為除非等所有羊群都聚集起來，才可挪開井口的石頭，取水飲羊。」 |
8"We cannot," they replied, "until all the shepherds are here to roll the stone away from the mouth of the well; only then can we water the flocks." |
| 9他還同他們說話的時候，辣黑耳領著他父親的羊群到了；因為她是個牧羊女。 |
9While he was still talking with them, Rachel arrived with her father's sheep; she was the one who tended them. |
| 10雅各伯一見了舅父拉班的女兒辣黑耳，和舅父拉班的羊群，就上前去，挪開井口的石頭，取水飲他舅父拉班的羊。 |
10As soon as Jacob saw Rachel, the daughter of his uncle Laban, with the sheep of his uncle Laban, he went up, rolled the stone away from the mouth of the well, and watered his uncle's sheep. |
| 11然後雅各伯口親辣黑耳，放聲大哭， |
11 Then Jacob kissed Rachel and burst into tears. |
| 12告訴辣黑耳，自己是她父親的外甥，黎貝加的兒子。辣黑耳便跑回去，告訴她父親。 |
12He told her that he was her father's relative, Rebekah's son, and she ran to tell her father. |
| 13拉班一聽得了關於他外甥雅各伯的消息，就跑來迎接他，抱住他，親他，領他到自己的家中。雅各伯遂將所遇的事全告訴了拉班。 |
13When Laban heard the news about his sister's son Jacob, he hurried out to meet him. After embracing and kissing him, he brought him to his house. Jacob then recounted to Laban all that had happened, |
| 14拉班對他說：「你實在是我的骨肉。」雅各伯遂同他住下了。過了一月， |
14 and Laban said to him, "You are indeed my flesh and blood." After Jacob had stayed with him a full month, |
| 15拉班對雅各伯說：「豈可因為你是我的外甥，就該白白服事我？告訴我，你要什麼報酬？」 |
15Laban said to him: "Should you serve me for nothing just because you are a relative of mine? Tell me what your wages should be." |
| 16拉班有兩個女兒：大的名叫肋阿，小的名叫辣黑耳。 |
16Now Laban had two daughters; the older was called Leah, the younger Rachel. |
| 17肋阿雙眼無神；辣黑耳卻相貌美麗； |
17 Leah had lovely eyes, but Rachel was well formed and beautiful. |
| 18為此雅各伯喜愛辣黑耳，遂回答說：「我願為你小女兒辣黑耳服事你七年。」 |
18 Since Jacob had fallen in love with Rachel, he answered Laban, "I will serve you seven years for your younger daughter Rachel." |
| 19拉班答說：「我將她給你，比給外人好；你就同我住下。」 |
19Laban replied, "I prefer to give her to you rather than to an outsider. Stay with me." |
| 20這樣，雅各伯為得到辣黑耳，服事了拉班七年；由於他喜愛這少女，看七年好像幾天。 |
20So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, yet they seemed to him but a few days because of his love for her. |
| 21雅各伯遂對拉班說：「期限已滿，請將我的妻子給我，我好與他親近。」 |
21Then Jacob said to Laban, "Give me my wife, that I may consummate my marriage with her, for my term is now completed." |
| 22拉班也請了當地所有的人士，擺了婚宴。 |
22So Laban invited all the local inhabitants and gave a feast. |
| 23到了晚上，他卻將自己的女兒肋阿，引到雅各伯前，雅各伯就親近了她。── |
23At nightfall he took his daughter Leah and brought her to Jacob, and Jacob consummated the marriage with her. |
| 24拉班且將自己的婢女齊耳帕給了女兒肋阿作婢女。── |
24(Laban assigned his slave girl Zilpah to his daughter Leah as her maidservant.) |
| 25到了早晨，他一見是肋阿，便對拉班說：「你對我作的是什麼事？我服事你，豈不是為了辣黑耳？你為什麼欺騙我？」 |
25 In the morning Jacob was amazed: it was Leah! So he cried out to Laban: "How could you do this to me! Was it not for Rachel that I served you? Why did you dupe me?" |
| 26拉班回答說：「我們這地方沒有先嫁幼女，而後嫁長女的風俗。 |
26"It is not the custom in our country," Laban replied, "to marry off a younger daughter before an older one. |
| 27你同長女滿了七天以後，我也將幼女給你，只要你再服事我七年。」 |
27 Finish the bridal week for this one, and then I will give you the other too, in return for another seven years of service with me." |
| 28雅各伯就這樣做了。與肋阿滿了七天以後，拉班便將自己的女兒辣黑耳給了他為妻。── |
28Jacob agreed. He finished the bridal week for Leah, and then Laban gave him his daughter Rachel in marriage. |
| 29拉班且將自己的婢女彼耳哈給了女兒辣黑耳作婢女。── |
29(Laban assigned his slave girl Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as her maidservant.) |
| 30雅各伯也親近了辣黑耳，而且他愛辣黑耳甚於肋阿；於是又服事了拉班七年。 |
30Jacob then consummated his marriage with Rachel also, and he loved her more than Leah. Thus he remained in Laban's service another seven years. |
| 31上主見肋阿失寵，便開了她的胎；但辣黑耳卻荒胎不孕。 |
31When the LORD saw that Leah was unloved, he made her fruitful, while Rachel remained barren. |
| 32肋阿懷孕生了一子，給他起名叫勒烏本，說：「上主垂視了我的苦衷，現在我的丈夫會愛我了。」 |
32 Leah conceived and bore a son, and she named him Reuben; for she said, "It means, 'The LORD saw my misery; now my husband will love me.'" |
| 33她又懷孕生了一子，說：「上主聽說我失了寵，又給了我一個。」遂給他起名叫西默盎。 |
33 She conceived again and bore a son, and said, "It means, 'The LORD heard that I was unloved,' and therefore he has given me this one also"; so she named him Simeon. |
| 34她又懷孕生了一子，說：「這次，我的丈夫可要戀住我了，因為我已給他生了三個兒子。」遂給他起名叫肋未。 |
34 Again she conceived and bore a son, and she said, "Now at last my husband will become attached to me, since I have now borne him three sons"; that is why she named him Levi. |
| 35她又懷孕生了一子，說：「這次我要讚頌上主。」為此給他起名叫猶大。以後就停止生育。 |
35 Once more she conceived and bore a son, and she said, "This time I will give grateful praise to the LORD"; therefore she named him Judah. Then she stopped bearing children. |
