| 3天主祝福了第七天，定為聖日，因為這一天，天主停止了他所行的一切創造工作。 | 3So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work he had done in creation. |
| 4這是創造天地的來歷：在上主天主創造天地時， | 4 Such is the story of the heavens and the earth at their creation. At the time when the LORD God made the earth and the heavens-- |
| 5地上還沒有灌木，田間也沒有生出蔬菜，因為上主天主還沒有使雨降在地上，也沒有人耕種土地， | 5while as yet there was no field shrub on earth and no grass of the field had sprouted, for the LORD God had sent no rain upon the earth and there was no man to till the soil, |
| 6有從地下湧出的水浸潤所有地面。 | 6but a stream was welling up out of the earth and was watering all the surface of the ground-- |
| 7上主天主用地上的灰土形成了人，在他鼻孔內吹了一口生氣，人就成了一個有靈的生物。 | 7 the LORD God formed man out of the clay of the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life, and so man became a living being. |
| 8上主天主在伊甸東部種植了一個樂園，就將他形成的人安置在裡面。 | 8 Then the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and he placed there the man whom he had formed. |
| 9上主天主使地面生出各種好看好吃的果樹，生命樹和知善惡樹在樂園中央。 | 9Out of the ground the LORD God made various trees grow that were delightful to look at and good for food, with the tree of life in the middle of the garden and the tree of the knowledge of good and bad. |
| 10有一條河由伊甸流出灌溉樂園，由那裡分為四支： | 10 A river rises in Eden to water the garden; beyond there it divides and becomes four branches. |
| 11第一支名叫丕雄，環流產金的哈威拉全境； | 11The name of the first is the Pishon; it is the one that winds through the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. |
| 12那地方的金子很好，那裡還產真珠和瑪瑙； | 12The gold of that land is excellent; bdellium and lapis lazuli are also there. |
| 13第二支河名叫基紅，環流雇士全境； | 13The name of the second river is the Gihon; it is the one that winds all through the land of Cush. |
| 14第三支河名叫底格里斯，流入亞述東部；第四支河即幼發拉的。 | 14The name of the third river is the Tigris; it is the one that flows east of Asshur. The fourth river is the Euphrates. |
| 15上主天主將人安置在伊甸的樂園內，叫他耕種，看守樂園。 | 15The LORD God then took the man and settled him in the garden of Eden, to cultivate and care for it. |
| 16上主天主給人下令說：「樂園中各樹上的果子，你都可吃， | 16The LORD God gave man this order: "You are free to eat from any of the trees of the garden |
| 17只有知善惡樹上的果子你不可吃，因為那一天你吃了，必定要死。」 | 17except the tree of knowledge of good and bad. From that tree you shall not eat; the moment you eat from it you are surely doomed to die." |
| 18上主天主說：「人單獨不好，我要給他造個與他相稱的助手。」 | 18The LORD God said: "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a suitable partner for him." |
| 19上主天主用塵土造了各種野獸和天空中的各種飛鳥，都引到人面前，看他怎樣起名；凡人給生物起的名字，就成了那生物的名字。 | 19So the LORD God formed out of the ground various wild animals and various birds of the air, and he brought them to the man to see what he would call them; whatever the man called each of them would be its name. |
| 20人遂給各種畜牲、天空中的各種飛鳥和各種野獸起了名字；但他沒有找著一個與自己相稱的助手。 | 20The man gave names to all the cattle, all the birds of the air, and all the wild animals; but none proved to be the suitable partner for the man. |
| 21上主天主遂使人熟睡，當他睡著了，就取出了他的一根肋骨，再用肉補滿原處。 | 21So the LORD God cast a deep sleep on the man, and while he was asleep, he took out one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. |
| 22然後上主天主用那由人取來的肋骨，形成了一個女人，引她到人前， | 22The LORD God then built up into a woman the rib that he had taken from the man. When he brought her to the man, |
| 23人遂說：「這才真是我的骨中之骨，肉中之肉，她應稱為「女人」，因為是由男人取出的。」 | 23 the man said: "This one, at last, is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; This one shall be called 'woman,' for out of 'her man' this one has been taken." |
| 24為此人應離開自己的父母，依附自己的妻子，二人成為一體。 | 24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of them become one body. |
| 25當時，男女二人都赤身露體，並不害羞。 | 25The man and his wife were both naked, yet they felt no shame. |
