| 1達理阿王二年六月初一，有上主的話藉哈蓋先知傳給沙耳提耳的兒子猶大省長則魯巴貝耳，和約匝達克的兒子大司祭耶叔亞說： |
1 On the first day of the sixth month in the second year of King Darius, the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai to the governor of Judah, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, and to the high priest Joshua, son of Jehozadak: |
| 2萬軍的上主這樣說：這百姓說：「建築上主殿宇的時候還沒有到！」 |
2Thus says the LORD of hosts: This people says: "Not now has the time come to rebuild the house of the LORD." |
| 3於是有上主的話藉哈蓋先知說： |
3(Then this word of the LORD came through Haggai, the prophet:) |
| 4「當這座殿宇還是一堆廢墟時，難道為你們就到了住在有天花板的房屋的時候？ |
4 Is it time for you to dwell in your own paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins? |
| 5如今萬軍的上主這樣說：你們應細心考慮一下你們的行徑！ |
5Now thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider your ways! |
| 6你們播種的多，卻收割的少；你們吃，卻總吃不飽；你們喝，卻總喝不夠；你們穿衣，卻總不覺溫暖；賺了工資，無異是將工資投進了破囊。 |
6You have sown much, but have brought in little; you have eaten, but have not been satisfied; You have drunk, but have not been exhilarated; have clothed yourselves, but not been warmed; And he who earned wages earned them for a bag with holes in it. |
| 7萬軍的上主這樣說：你們應細心考慮一下你們的行徑！ |
7Thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider your ways! |
| 8你們應上山去，搬運木材，建造殿宇！我必因此喜悅，並發顯光榮──上主說。 |
8Go up into the hill country; bring timber, and build the house That I may take pleasure in it and receive my glory, says the LORD. |
| 9你們期望豐收，看，反而歉收；你們運到家裏，我反把它吹散；這是為了什麼？──萬軍上主的斷語──是為了我的殿宇尚在荒廢，而你們竟各自趕造自己的房屋。 |
9You expected much, but it came to little; and what you brought home, I blew away. For what cause? says the LORD of hosts. Because my house lies in ruins, while each of you hurries to his own house. |
| 10為此，上天對你們停降雨露，大地也停止了出產， |
10Therefore the heavens withheld from you their dew, and the earth her crops. |
| 11因為我向大地、群山、五穀、新酒、新油、田地的出產、人畜和手中的一切工作招來了旱災。」 |
11And I called for a drought upon the land and upon the mountains; Upon the grain, and upon the wine, and upon the oil, and upon all that the ground brings forth; Upon men and upon beasts, and upon all that is produced by hand. |
| 12於是沙耳提耳的兒子則魯巴貝耳，約匝達克的兒子大司祭耶叔亞，以及全體遺民都聽從了上主，他們天主的聲音，也聽從了上主，他們的天主給他們派遣來的哈蓋先知的話；因此百姓在上主面前都起了敬畏的心。 |
12 Then Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, and the high priest Joshua, son of Jehozadak, and all the remnant of the people listened to the voice of the LORD, their God, and to the words of the prophet Haggai, because the LORD, their God, had sent him, and the people feared because of the LORD. |
| 13上主的使者哈蓋就以上主使者的名義向人民說：我與你們同在──上主的斷語。 |
13And the LORD'S messenger, Haggai, proclaimed to the people as the message of the LORD: I am with you, says the LORD. |
| 14於是上主振興起了沙耳提耳的兒子猶大省長則魯巴貝耳的精神，以及約匝達克的兒子大司祭耶叔亞的精神，和全體遺民的精神，他們便都前來興工建造萬軍的上主，他們的天主的聖殿。 |
14Then the LORD stirred up the spirit of the governor of Judah, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, and the spirit of the high priest Joshua, son of Jehozadak, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people, so that they came and set to work on the house of the LORD of hosts, their God, |
