| 1以色列子民離開埃及國後，第三個月初一那一天，到了西乃曠野。 |
1In the third month after their departure from the land of Egypt, on its first day, the Israelites came to the desert of Sinai. |
| 2他們從勒非丁起程，來到西乃曠野，就在曠野中安了營；以色列人在那座山前安了營。 |
2After the journey from Rephidim to the desert of Sinai, they pitched camp. While Israel was encamped here in front of the mountain, |
| 3梅瑟上到天主前，上主從山上召喚他說：「你要這樣告訴雅各伯家，訓示以色列子民說： |
3Moses went up the mountain to God. Then the LORD called to him and said, "Thus shall you say to the house of Jacob; |
| 4你們親自見了我怎樣對待了埃及人，怎樣好似鷹將你們背在翅膀上，將你們帶出來歸屬我。 |
4tell the Israelites: You have seen for yourselves how I treated the Egyptians and how I bore you up on eagle wings and brought you here to myself. |
| 5現在你們若真聽我的話，遵守我的盟約，你們在萬民中將成為我的特殊產業。的確，普世全屬於我， |
5Therefore, if you hearken to my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my special possession, dearer to me than all other people, though all the earth is mine. |
| 6但你們為我應成為司祭的國家，聖潔的國民。你應將這些話訓示以色列子民。」 |
6 You shall be to me a kingdom of priests, a holy nation. That is what you must tell the Israelites." |
| 7梅瑟就去召集百姓的長老，將上主吩咐他的那一切話，都在他們前說明了。 |
7So Moses went and summoned the elders of the people. When he set before them all that the LORD had ordered him to tell them, |
| 8眾百姓一致回答說：「凡上主所吩咐的，我們全要作。」梅瑟遂將百姓的答覆轉達於上主。 |
8the people all answered together, "Everything the LORD has said, we will do." Then Moses brought back to the LORD the response of the people. |
| 9上主向梅瑟說：「我要在濃雲中降到你前，叫百姓聽見我與你談話，使他們永遠信服你。」梅瑟遂向上主呈報了百姓的答覆。 |
9The LORD also told him, "I am coming to you in a dense cloud, so that when the people hear me speaking with you, they may always have faith in you also." When Moses, then, had reported to the LORD the response of the people, |
| 10上主向梅瑟說：「你到百姓那裏，叫他們今天明天聖潔自己，洗淨自己的衣服。 |
10the LORD added, "Go to the people and have them sanctify themselves today and tomorrow. Make them wash their garments |
| 11第三天都應準備妥當，因為第三天，上主要在百姓觀望之下降到西乃山上。 |
11and be ready for the third day; for on the third day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai before the eyes of all the people. |
| 12你要給百姓在山周圍劃定界限說：應小心，不可上山，也不可觸摸山腳；凡觸摸那山的，應處死刑。 |
12Set limits for the people all around the mountain, and tell them: Take care not to go up the mountain, or even to touch its base. If anyone touches the mountain, he must be put to death. |
| 13誰也不可用手觸摸那人，而應用石頭砸死或用箭射死；不論是獸是人，都不得生存；號角響起的時候，他們才可上山。」 |
13No hand shall touch him; he must be stoned to death or killed with arrows. Such a one, man or beast, must not be allowed to live. Only when the ram's horn resounds may they go up to the mountain." |
| 14梅瑟下山來到百姓那裏，叫他們聖潔自己，洗淨自己的衣服。 |
14Then Moses came down from the mountain to the people and had them sanctify themselves and wash their garments. |
| 15他向百姓說：「到第三天應準備妥當，不可接近女人。」 |
15He warned them, "Be ready for the third day. Have no intercourse with any woman." |
| 16到了第三天早晨，山上雷電交作，濃雲密佈，角聲齊鳴，此時在營中的百姓都戰戰兢兢。 |
16On the morning of the third day there were peals of thunder and lightning, and a heavy cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast, so that all the people in the camp trembled. |
| 17梅瑟叫百姓從營中出來迎接天主，他們都站在山下。 |
17But Moses led the people out of the camp to meet God, and they stationed themselves at the foot of the mountain. |
| 18此時西乃全山冒煙，因為上主在火中降到山上；冒出的煙像火窯的煙，全山猛烈震動。 |
18Mount Sinai was all wrapped in smoke, for the LORD came down upon it in fire. The smoke rose from it as though from a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently. |
| 19角聲越響越高；梅瑟遂開始說話，天主藉雷霆答覆他。 |
19The trumpet blast grew louder and louder, while Moses was speaking and God answering him with thunder. |
| 20上主降到西乃山頂上，召梅瑟上到山頂；梅瑟就上去了。 |
20When the LORD came down to the top of Mount Sinai, he summoned Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up to him. |
| 21上主向梅瑟說：「下去通告百姓：不可闖到上主面前觀看，免得許多人死亡。 |
21Then the LORD told Moses, "Go down and warn the people not to break through toward the LORD in order to see him; otherwise many of them will be struck down. |
| 22連那些接近上主的司祭們，也應聖潔自己，免得上主擊殺他們。」 |
22The priests, too, who approach the LORD must sanctify themselves; else he will vent his anger upon them." |
| 23梅瑟答覆上主說：「百姓不能上西乃山，因你自己曾通告我們說：要在山的四周劃定界限，也宣布這山是不可侵犯的。」 |
23Moses said to the LORD, "The people cannot go up to Mount Sinai, for you yourself warned us to set limits around the mountain to make it sacred." |
| 24上主向他說：「下去，你同亞郎一起上來，但司祭和百姓不可闖到上主前，免得我擊殺他們。」 |
24The LORD repeated, "Go down now! Then come up again along with Aaron. But the priests and the people must not break through to come up to the LORD; else he will vent his anger upon them." |
| 25梅瑟便下到百姓那裏，通知了他們。 |
25So Moses went down to the people and told them this. |
