| 1上主向梅瑟說：「你和你從埃及國領出的百姓離開這裏，上那地方去；關於此地，我曾誓許給亞巴郎、依撒格和雅各伯說：我要將此地賜給你的後裔。 |
1The LORD told Moses, "You and the people whom you have brought up from the land of Egypt, are to go up from here to the land which I swore to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob I would give to their descendants. |
| 2我要打發使者在你前面，我要驅逐客納罕人、阿摩黎人、赫特人、培黎齊人、希威人和耶步斯人。 |
2Driving out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites, I will send an angel before you |
| 3你往流奶流蜜之地時，我不與你同行，因為你是個執拗的百姓，免得我在路上消滅你。」 |
3to the land flowing with milk and honey. But I myself will not go up in your company, because you are a stiff-necked people; otherwise I might exterminate you on the way." |
| 4百姓一聽這凶訊，都表示悲痛，沒有人再穿戴裝飾品。 |
4When the people heard this bad news, they went into mourning, and no one wore his ornaments. |
| 5上主向梅瑟說：「你告訴以色列子民：你們是個執拗的百姓，我若與你同行，只一會兒，我必把你消滅。現在你把裝飾品卸下，看我要怎樣待你。」 |
5The LORD said to Moses, "Tell the Israelites: You are a stiff-necked people. Were I to go up in your company even for a moment, I would exterminate you. Take off your ornaments, therefore; I will then see what I am to do with you." |
| 6以色列子民從離開曷勒布山，就卸去了裝飾品。 |
6So, from Mount Horeb onward, the Israelites laid aside their ornaments. |
| 7梅瑟往往將那帳幕支搭在營外，離營遠些；他稱此帳幕為「會幕」。凡求問天主的，要到營外的帳幕那裏。 |
7 The tent, which was called the meeting tent, Moses used to pitch at some distance away, outside the camp. Anyone who wished to consult the LORD would go to this meeting tent outside the camp. |
| 8每當梅瑟往會幕那裏去的時候，眾百姓都起來，每人站在自己帳幕門口，觀望梅瑟直到他進入會幕。 |
8Whenever Moses went out to the tent, the people would all rise and stand at the entrance of their own tents, watching Moses until he entered the tent. |
| 9當梅瑟進入會幕的時候，雲柱降下，停在會幕門口，上主便同梅瑟談話。 |
9As Moses entered the tent, the column of cloud would come down and stand at its entrance while the LORD spoke with Moses. |
| 10眾百姓一見雲柱停止在會幕門口，百姓就起來，俯伏在自己的帳幕門口。 |
10On seeing the column of cloud stand at the entrance of the tent, all the people would rise and worship at the entrance of their own tents. |
| 11上主同梅瑟面對面地談話，就如人同朋友談話一樣。梅瑟回營以後，他的侍從，一個年輕人，即農的兒子若蘇厄總不離開會幕。 |
11The LORD used to speak to Moses face to face, as one man speaks to another. Moses would then return to the camp, but his young assistant, Joshua, son of Nun, would not move out of the tent. |
| 12梅瑟對上主說：「看，你吩咐了我，叫我引領這百姓，但沒有告訴我，你派誰與我同去。你還說過：我提名選了你，你在我眼中得了寵。 |
12Moses said to the LORD, "You, indeed, are telling me to lead this people on; but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you have said, 'You are my intimate friend,' and also, 'You have found favor with me.' |
| 13如果我真在你眼中得寵，求你把你的道路指示給我，叫我認識你，好在你眼中得寵。也請記得這民族是你的百姓。」 |
13Now, if I have found favor with you, do let me know your ways so that, in knowing you, I may continue to find favor with you. Then, too, this nation is, after all, your own people." |
| 14上主回答說：「我必親自去，使你獲得安所。」 |
14 "I myself," the LORD answered, "will go along, to give you rest." |
| 15梅瑟對上主說：「你若不親自去，也別叫我們從這裏上去。 |
15Moses replied, "If you are not going yourself, do not make us go up from here. |
| 16人怎樣知道我和你的百姓在你眼中得寵，豈不是因你與我們同行，而我和你的百姓有別於地面上所有的人民？」 |
16For how can it be known that we, your people and I, have found favor with you, except by your going with us? Then we, your people and I, will be singled out from every other people on the earth." |
| 17上主回答說：「連你所求的事，我也要作，因為你在我眼中得了寵，我提名選了你。」 |
17The LORD said to Moses, "This request, too, which you have just made, I will carry out, because you have found favor with me and you are my intimate friend." |
| 18梅瑟又說：「求你把你的榮耀顯示給我。」 |
18Then Moses said, "Do let me see your glory!" |
| 19上主答說：「當我在你前呼喊「雅威」名號時，我要使我的一切美善在你面前經過。我要恩待的就恩待，要憐憫的就憐憫。」 |
19He answered, "I will make all my beauty pass before you, and in your presence I will pronounce my name, 'LORD'; I who show favors to whom I will, I who grant mercy to whom I will. |
| 20又說：「我的面容你決不能看見，因為人看見了我，就不能再活了。」 |
20But my face you cannot see, for no man sees me and still lives. |
| 21上主又說：「看，靠近我有個地方，你可站在那塊磐石上。 |
21Here," continued the LORD, "is a place near me where you shall station yourself on the rock. |
| 22當我的榮耀經過時，我把你放在磐石縫裏，用我的手遮掩你，直到我過去。 |
22When my glory passes I will set you in the hollow of the rock and will cover you with my hand until I have passed by. |
| 23當我縮回我的手時，你將看見我的背後，但我的面容，卻無法看見。」 |
23 Then I will remove my hand, so that you may see my back; but my face is not to be seen." |
