¹當黑落德為王時，耶穌誕生在猶大的白冷；看，有賢士從東方來到耶路撒冷，	¹ When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem,
²說：「纔誕生的猶太人君王在那裏？我們在東方見到了他的星，特來朝拜他。」	²saying, "Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage."
³黑落德王一聽說，就驚慌起來，全耶路撒冷也同他一起驚慌。	³When King Herod heard this, he was greatly troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
⁴他便召集了眾司祭長和民間的經師，仔細考問他們：默西亞應當生在那裏。	⁴Assembling all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born.
⁵他們對他說：「在猶大的白冷，因為先知曾這樣記載：	⁵They said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it has been written through the prophet:
⁶『你猶大地白冷啊！你在猶大的郡邑中，決不是最小的，因為將由你出來一位領袖，他將牧養我的百姓以色列。』」	⁶'And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; since from you shall come a ruler, who is to shepherd my people Israel.'"
⁷於是黑落德暗暗把賢士叫來，仔細詢問他們那星出現的時間；	⁷Then Herod called the magi secretly and ascertained from them the time of the star's appearance.
⁸然後打發他們往白冷去，說：「你們去仔細尋訪嬰孩，幾時找到了，給我報信，好讓我也去朝拜他。」	⁸He sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and search diligently for the child. When you have found him, bring me word, that I too may go and do him homage."
⁹他們聽了王的話，就走了。看，他們在東方所見的那星，走在他們前面，直至來到嬰孩所在的地方，就停在上面。	⁹After their audience with the king they set out. And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the child was.
¹⁰他們一見到那星，極其高興歡喜。	¹⁰They were overjoyed at seeing the star,
¹¹他們走進屋內，看見嬰兒和他的母親瑪利亞，遂俯伏朝拜了他，打開自己的寶匣，給他奉獻了禮物，即黃金、乳香和沒藥。	¹¹ and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother. They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
¹²他們在夢中得到指示，不要回到黑落德那裏，就由另一條路返回自己的地方去了。	¹²And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed for their country by another way.
¹³他們離去後，看，上主的天使托夢顯於若瑟說：「起來，帶着嬰孩和他的母親逃往埃及去，住在那裏，直到我再通知你，因為黑落德即將尋找這嬰孩，要把他殺掉。」	¹³ When they had departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you. Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him."
¹⁴若瑟便起來，星夜帶了嬰孩和他的母親，退避到埃及去了。	¹⁴Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed for Egypt.
¹⁵留在那裏，直到黑落德死去。這就應驗了上主藉先知所說的話：「我從埃及召回了我的兒子。」	¹⁵ He stayed there until the death of Herod, that what the Lord had said through the prophet might be fulfilled, "Out of Egypt I called my son."
¹⁶那時，黑落德見自己受了賢士們的愚弄，就大發忿怒，依照他由賢士們所探得的時期，差人將白冷及其周圍境內所有兩歲及兩歲以下的嬰兒殺死，	¹⁶When Herod realized that he had been deceived by the magi, he became furious. He ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had ascertained from the magi.
¹⁷於是應驗了耶肋米亞先知所說的話：	¹⁷Then was fulfilled what had been said through Jeremiah the prophet:
¹⁸「在辣瑪聽到了聲音，痛哭哀號不止；辣黑耳痛哭她的子女，不願受人的安慰，因為他們不在了。」	¹⁸ "A voice was heard in Ramah, sobbing and loud lamentation; Rachel weeping for her children, and she would not be consoled, since they were no more."
¹⁹黑落德死後，看，上主的天使在埃及托夢顯於若瑟，	¹⁹When Herod had died, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt
²⁰說：「起來，帶着孩子和他的母親，往以色列地去，因為那些謀殺孩子性命的人死了。」	²⁰and said, "Rise, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the child's life are dead."
²¹他便起來，帶了孩子和他的母親，進了以色列地域；	²¹He rose, took the child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel.
²²但是一聽說阿爾赫勞繼他父親黑落德作了猶太王，就害怕到那裏去；夢中得了指示後，便退避到加里肋亞境內，	²²But when he heard that Archelaus was ruling over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go back there. And because he had been warned in a dream, he departed for the region of Galilee.
²³去住在一座名叫納匝肋的城中，如此應驗了先知們所說的話：「他將稱為納匝肋人。」	²³ He went and dwelt in a town called Nazareth, so that what had been spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled, "He shall be called a Nazorean."
