| 1德敖斐羅鈞座：關於在我們中間所完成的事蹟，已有許多人，依照那些自始親眼見過，並為真道服役的人所傳給我們的，着手編成了記述，我也從起頭仔細訪查了一切，遂立意按着次第給你寫出來， |
1 Since many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the events that have been fulfilled among us, |
| 2為使你認清給你所講授的道理，正確無誤。 |
2just as those who were eyewitnesses from the beginning and ministers of the word have handed them down to us, |
| 3在猶太王黑落德的時候，阿彼雅班中有一位司祭名叫匝加利亞，他的妻子是出於亞郎的後代，名叫依撒伯爾。 |
3I too have decided, after investigating everything accurately anew, to write it down in an orderly sequence for you, most excellent Theophilus, |
| 4二人在天主前是義人，都照上主的一切誡命和禮規行事，無可指摘。 |
4so that you may realize the certainty of the teachings you have received. |
| 5但是，他們沒有孩子，因為依撒伯爾素不生育，兩人又都上了年紀。 |
5 In the days of Herod, King of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah of the priestly division of Abijah; his wife was from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. |
| 6正逢匝加利亞輪着他的班次，在天主前盡司祭的職務時， |
6Both were righteous in the eyes of God, observing all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blamelessly. |
| 7按着司祭的常例，他抽中了籤，得進上主的聖所獻香。 |
7But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren and both were advanced in years. |
| 8獻香的時候，眾百姓都在外面祈禱。 |
8Once when he was serving as priest in his division's turn before God, |
| 9有一位上主的天使站在香壇右邊顯現給他。 |
9according to the practice of the priestly service, he was chosen by lot to enter the sanctuary of the Lord to burn incense. |
| 10匝加利亞一見，驚惶失措，害怕起來； |
10Then, when the whole assembly of the people was praying outside at the hour of the incense offering, |
| 11但天使向他說：「匝加利亞，不要害怕！因為你的祈禱已蒙應允，你的妻子依撒伯爾要給你生一個兒子，你要給他起名叫若翰。 |
11the angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right of the altar of incense. |
| 12你必要喜樂歡躍，許多人也要因他的誕生而喜樂， |
12Zechariah was troubled by what he saw, and fear came upon him. |
| 13因為他在上主面前將是偉大的，淡酒濃酒他都不喝，而且，他還在母胎中就要充滿聖神； |
13But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall name him John. |
| 14他要使許多以色列子民轉向上主，他們的天主； |
14And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, |
| 15他要以厄里亞的精神和能力，在他前面先行，使為父的心轉向兒子，使悖逆者轉向義人的心意，並為上主準備一個善良的百姓。」 |
15for he will be great in the sight of (the) Lord. He will drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will be filled with the holy Spirit even from his mother's womb, |
| 16匝加利亞遂向天使說：「我憑着什麼能知道這事呢？因為我已經老了，我的妻子也上了年紀。」 |
16and he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. |
| 17天使回答說：「我是站在天主面前的加俾額爾，奉命來向你說話，報給你這個喜訊。 |
17He will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah to turn the hearts of fathers toward children and the disobedient to the understanding of the righteous, to prepare a people fit for the Lord." |
| 18看，你必成為啞吧，不能說話，直到這些事成就的那一天，因為你沒有相信我的話；但我的話屆時必要應驗。」 |
18Then Zechariah said to the angel, "How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is advanced in years." |
| 19百姓等候匝加利亞，都奇怪他滯留在聖所內。 |
19And the angel said to him in reply, "I am Gabriel, who stand before God. I was sent to speak to you and to announce to you this good news. |
| 20及至他出來後，竟不能與他們講話，他們這纔知道他在聖所中見了異象；他已成了啞吧，只給他們打手勢。 |
20But now you will be speechless and unable to talk until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled at their proper time." |
| 21他供職的日期一滿，就回了家。 |
21Meanwhile the people were waiting for Zechariah and were amazed that he stayed so long in the sanctuary. |
| 22幾天以後，他的妻子依撒伯爾受了孕，自己躲藏了五個月，說： |
22But when he came out, he was unable to speak to them, and they realized that he had seen a vision in the sanctuary. He was gesturing to them but remained mute. |
| 23「上主在眷顧的日子這樣待了我，除去了我在人間的恥辱。」 |
23Then, when his days of ministry were completed, he went home. |
| 24到了第六個月，天使加俾額爾奉天主差遣，往加里肋亞一座名叫納匝肋的城去， |
24After this time his wife Elizabeth conceived, and she went into seclusion for five months, saying, |
| 25到一位童貞女那裏，她已與達味家族中的一個名叫若瑟的男子訂了婚，童貞女的名字叫瑪利亞。 |
25"So has the Lord done for me at a time when he has seen fit to take away my disgrace before others." |
| 26天使進去向她說：「萬福！充滿恩寵者，上主與你同在！」【在女人中你是蒙祝福的。】 |
26 In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, |
| 27她卻因這話驚惶不安，便思慮這樣的請安有什麼意思。 |
27to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary. |
| 28天使對她說：「瑪利亞，不要害怕，因為你在天主前獲得了寵幸。 |
28And coming to her, he said, "Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you." |
| 29看，你將懷孕生子，並要給他起名叫耶穌。 |
29But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. |
| 30他將是偉大的，並被稱為至高者的兒子，上主天主要把他祖先達味的御座賜給他。 |
30Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. |
| 31他要為王統治雅各伯家，直到永遠；他的王權沒有終結。」 |
31Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. |
| 32瑪利亞便向天使說：「這事怎能成就？因為我不認識男人。」 |
32He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, |
| 33天使答覆她說：「聖神要臨於你，至高者的能力要庇廕你，因此，那要誕生的聖者，將稱為天主的兒子。 |
33and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end." |
| 34且看，你的親戚依撒伯爾，她雖在老年，卻懷了男胎，本月已六個月了，她原是素稱不生育的， |
34But Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?" |
| 35因為在天主前沒有不能的事。」 |
35And the angel said to her in reply, "The holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. |
| 36瑪利亞說：「看！上主的婢女，願照你的話成就於我罷！」天使便離開她去了。 |
36And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren; |
| 37瑪利亞就在那幾日起身，急速往山區去，到了猶大的一座城。 |
37for nothing will be impossible for God." |
| 38她進了匝加利亞的家，就給依撒伯爾請安。 |
38Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." Then the angel departed from her. |
| 39依撒伯爾一聽到瑪利亞請安，胎兒就在她的腹中歡躍。依撒伯爾遂充滿了聖神， |
39During those days Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, |
| 40大聲呼喊說：「在女人中你是蒙祝福的，你的胎兒也是蒙祝福的。 |
40where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. |
| 41吾主的母親駕臨我這裏，這是我那裏得來的呢？ |
41When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit, |
| 42看，你請安的聲音一入我耳，胎兒就在我腹中歡喜踴躍。 |
42cried out in a loud voice and said, "Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. |
| 43那信了由上主傳於她的話必要完成的，是有福的。」 |
43And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? |
| 44瑪利亞遂說：「我的靈魂頌揚上主， |
44For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. |
| 45我的心神歡躍於天主，我的救主， |
45Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled." |
| 46因為他垂顧了她婢女的卑微，今後萬世萬代都要稱我有福； |
46And Mary said: "My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; |
| 47因全能者在我身上行了大事，他的名字是聖的， |
47my spirit rejoices in God my savior. |
| 48他的仁慈世世代代於無窮世，賜與敬畏他的人。 |
48For he has looked upon his handmaid's lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed. |
| 49他伸出了手臂施展大能，驅散那些心高氣傲的人。 |
49The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. |
| 50他從高座上推下權勢者，卻舉揚了卑微貧困的人。 |
50His mercy is from age to age to those who fear him. |
| 51他曾使饑餓者飽饗美物，反使那富有者空手而去。 |
51He has shown might with his arm, dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart. |
| 52他曾回憶起自己的仁慈，扶助了他的僕人以色列， |
52He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones but lifted up the lowly. |
| 53正如他向我們的祖先所說過的恩許，施恩於亞巴郎和他的子孫，直到永遠。」 |
53The hungry he has filled with good things; the rich he has sent away empty. |
| 54瑪利亞同依撒伯爾住了三個月左右，就回本家去了。 |
54He has helped Israel his servant, remembering his mercy, |
| 55依撒伯爾滿了產期，就生了一個兒子。 |
55according to his promise to our fathers, to Abraham and to his descendants forever." |
| 56她的鄰居和親戚聽說上主向她大施仁慈，都和她一同歡樂。 |
56Mary remained with her about three months and then returned to her home. |
| 57到了第八天，人們來給這孩子行割損禮，並願意照他父親的名字叫他匝加利亞。 |
57 When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child she gave birth to a son. |
| 58他的母親說：「不，要叫他若翰。」 |
58Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her. |
| 59他們就向她說：「在你親族中沒有叫這個名字的。」 |
59 When they came on the eighth day to circumcise the child, they were going to call him Zechariah after his father, |
| 60他們便給他的父親打手勢，看他願意叫他什麼。 |
60but his mother said in reply, "No. He will be called John." |
| 61他要了一塊小板，寫道：「若翰是他的名字。」眾人都驚訝起來。 |
61But they answered her, "There is no one among your relatives who has this name." |
| 62匝加利亞的口和舌頭立時開了，遂開口讚美天主。 |
62So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called. |
| 63於是，所有的鄰居都滿懷怕情；這一切事就傳遍了全猶大山區， |
63He asked for a tablet and wrote, "John is his name," and all were amazed. |
| 64凡聽見的人都將這事存在心中，說：「這孩子將成為什麼人物啊？」因為上主的手與他同在。 |
64Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed, and he spoke blessing God. |
| 65他的父親匝加利亞充滿了聖神，遂預言說： |
65Then fear came upon all their neighbors, and all these matters were discussed throughout the hill country of Judea. |
| 66「上主，以色列的天主應受讚美，因他眷顧救贖了自己的民族， |
66All who heard these things took them to heart, saying, "What, then, will this child be?" For surely the hand of the Lord was with him. |
| 67並在自己的僕人達味家中，為我們興起了大能的救主， |
67Then Zechariah his father, filled with the holy Spirit, prophesied, saying: |
| 68正如他藉歷代諸聖先知的口所說過的， |
68 "Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, for he has visited and brought redemption to his people. |
| 69拯救我們脫離敵人和仇恨我們者的手。 |
69 He has raised up a horn for our salvation within the house of David his servant, |
| 70他向我們的祖先施行仁慈，記憶起他自己的神聖盟約， |
70even as he promised through the mouth of his holy prophets from of old: |
| 71就是他向我們的祖宗亞巴郎所宣述的誓詞， |
71salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us, |
| 72恩賜我們從敵人手中被救出以後，無恐無懼， |
72to show mercy to our fathers and to be mindful of his holy covenant |
| 73一生一世在他面前，以聖善和正義事奉他。 |
73and of the oath he swore to Abraham our father, and to grant us that, |
| 74至於你，小孩，你要稱為至高者的先知，因你要走在上主前面，為他預備道路， |
74rescued from the hand of enemies, without fear we might worship him |
| 75為使他的百姓認識救恩，以獲得他們罪惡的寬宥： |
75in holiness and righteousness before him all our days. |
| 76這是出於我們天主的慈懷，使旭日由高天向我們照耀， |
76And you, child, will be called prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, |
| 77為光照那坐在黑暗和死影中的人，並引我們的腳步，走向和平的道路。」 |
77to give his people knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, |
| 78這小孩漸漸長大，心神堅強。他住在荒野中，直到他在以色列人前出現的日期。 |
78because of the tender mercy of our God by which the daybreak from on high will visit us |
