| 1於是，他們全體起來，把耶穌押送到比拉多面前， |
1 Then the whole assembly of them arose and brought him before Pilate. |
| 2開始控告他說：「我們查得這個人煽惑我們的民族，阻止給凱撒納稅，且自稱為默西亞君王。」 |
2They brought charges against him, saying, "We found this man misleading our people; he opposes the payment of taxes to Caesar and maintains that he is the Messiah, a king." |
| 3比拉多遂問耶穌說：「你是猶太人的君王嗎？」耶穌回答說：「你說的是。」 |
3Pilate asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?" He said to him in reply, "You say so." |
| 4比拉多對司祭長及群眾說：「我在這人身上查不出什麼罪狀來。」 |
4Pilate then addressed the chief priests and the crowds, "I find this man not guilty." |
| 5他們越發堅持說：「他在猶太全境，從加里肋亞起，直到這裏施教，煽動民眾。」 |
5But they were adamant and said, "He is inciting the people with his teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee where he began even to here." |
| 6比拉多聽了，就問耶穌是不是加里肋亞人。 |
6 On hearing this Pilate asked if the man was a Galilean; |
| 7既知道他屬黑落德統治，就把他轉送到黑落德那裏。這幾天，黑落德也在耶路撒冷。 |
7and upon learning that he was under Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod who was in Jerusalem at that time. |
| 8黑落德見了耶穌，不勝欣喜，原來他早就願意看看耶穌，因為他曾聽說過關於耶穌的事，也指望他顯個奇蹟。 |
8Herod was very glad to see Jesus; he had been wanting to see him for a long time, for he had heard about him and had been hoping to see him perform some sign. |
| 9於是，問了耶穌許多事，但耶穌什麼都不回答。 |
9He questioned him at length, but he gave him no answer. |
| 10司祭長及經師們站在那裏，極力控告他。 |
10The chief priests and scribes, meanwhile, stood by accusing him harshly. |
| 11黑落德及自己的侍衛鄙視他，戲笑他，並給他穿上華麗的長袍，把他解回比拉多那裏。 |
11(Even) Herod and his soldiers treated him contemptuously and mocked him, and after clothing him in resplendent garb, he sent him back to Pilate. |
| 12黑落德與比拉多就在那一天彼此成了朋友，因為他們原先彼此有仇。 |
12Herod and Pilate became friends that very day, even though they had been enemies formerly. |
| 13比拉多召集司祭長、官吏及人民來， |
13Pilate then summoned the chief priests, the rulers, and the people |
| 14對他們說：「你們給我送這個人來，好像是一個煽惑民眾的人。看，我在你們面前審問了他，而你們告他的罪狀，我在這人身上並查不出一條來； |
14and said to them, "You brought this man to me and accused him of inciting the people to revolt. I have conducted my investigation in your presence and have not found this man guilty of the charges you have brought against him, |
| 15而且，黑落德也沒有查出，因而又把他解回到我們這裏來，足見他沒有做過應死的事。 |
15nor did Herod, for he sent him back to us. So no capital crime has been committed by him. |
| 16所以，我懲治他以後，便釋放他。」 |
16Therefore I shall have him flogged and then release him." |
| 17每逢節日他必須照例給他們釋放一個囚犯。 |

| 18他們卻齊聲喊叫說：「除掉這個人，給我們釋放巴辣巴！」 |
18But all together they shouted out, "Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us." |
| 19巴辣巴原是為了在城中作亂殺人而下獄的。 |
19(Now Barabbas had been imprisoned for a rebellion that had taken place in the city and for murder.) |
| 20比拉多又向他們聲明，願意釋放耶穌。 |
20Again Pilate addressed them, still wishing to release Jesus, |
| 21他們卻不斷地喊叫說：「釘在十字架上，釘他在十字架上！」 |
21but they continued their shouting, "Crucify him! Crucify him!" |
| 22比拉多第三次對他們說：「這人到底作了什麼惡事！我在他身上查不出什麼應死的罪狀來。所以我懲治他以後，便釋放他。」 |
22Pilate addressed them a third time, "What evil has this man done? I found him guilty of no capital crime. Therefore I shall have him flogged and then release him." |
| 23但是，他們仍厲聲逼迫，要求釘他在十字架上。他們的喊聲，越來越厲害。 |
23With loud shouts, however, they persisted in calling for his crucifixion, and their voices prevailed. |
| 24比拉多遂宣判：照他們所請求的執行， |
24The verdict of Pilate was that their demand should be granted. |
| 25便釋放了他們所要求的那個因作亂殺人而下獄的犯人；至於耶穌，卻交出來，讓他們隨意處理。 |
25So he released the man who had been imprisoned for rebellion and murder, for whom they asked, and he handed Jesus over to them to deal with as they wished. |
| 26他們把耶穌帶走的時候，就抓住一個從田間來的基勒乃人西滿，把十字架放在他肩上，叫他在耶穌後面背着。 |
26 As they led him away they took hold of a certain Simon, a Cyrenian, who was coming in from the country; and after laying the cross on him, they made him carry it behind Jesus. |
| 27有許多人民及婦女跟隨着耶穌，婦女搥胸痛哭他。 |
27A large crowd of people followed Jesus, including many women who mourned and lamented him. |
| 28耶穌轉身向她們說：「耶路撒冷女子！你們不要哭我，但應哭你們自己及你們的子女， |
28Jesus turned to them and said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep instead for yourselves and for your children, |
| 29因為日子將到，那時，人要說：那荒胎的，那沒有生產過的胎，和沒有哺養過的乳，是有福的。 |
29for indeed, the days are coming when people will say, 'Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed.' |
| 30那時，人要開始對高山說：倒在我們身上罷！對丘陵說：蓋起我們來罷！ |
30At that time people will say to the mountains, 'Fall upon us!' and to the hills, 'Cover us!' |
| 31如果對於青綠的樹木，他們還這樣做，對於枯槁的樹木，又將怎樣呢？」 |
31for if these things are done when the wood is green what will happen when it is dry?" |
| 32另有兩個凶犯，也被帶去，同耶穌一同受死。 |
32Now two others, both criminals, were led away with him to be executed. |
| 33他們既到了那名叫髑髏的地方，就在那裏把耶穌釘在十字架上；也釘了那兩個凶犯：一個在右邊，一個在左邊。 |
33When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him and the criminals there, one on his right, the other on his left. |
| 34耶穌說：「父啊！寬赦他們罷！因為他們不知道他們做的是什麼。」他們拈鬮分了他的衣服。 |
34[Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, they know not what they do."] They divided his garments by casting lots. |
| 35民眾站着觀望。首領們嗤笑說：「別人，他救了；如果這人是天主的受傅者，被選者，就救他自己罷！」 |
35The people stood by and watched; the rulers, meanwhile, sneered at him and said, "He saved others, let him save himself if he is the chosen one, the Messiah of God." |
| 36兵士也戲弄他，前來把醋給他遞上去， |
36Even the soldiers jeered at him. As they approached to offer him wine |
| 37說：「如果你是猶太人的君王，就救你自己罷！」 |
37they called out, "If you are King of the Jews, save yourself." |
| 38在他上頭還有一塊用希臘、拉丁及希伯來文字寫的罪狀牌：「這是猶太人的君王。」 |
38Above him there was an inscription that read, "This is the King of the Jews." |
| 39懸掛着的凶犯中，有一個侮辱耶穌說：「你不是默西亞嗎？救救你自己和我們罷！」 |
39 Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying, "Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us." |
| 40另一個凶犯應聲責斥他說：「你既然受同樣的刑罰，連天主你都不怕嗎？ |
40The other, however, rebuking him, said in reply, "Have you no fear of God, for you are subject to the same condemnation? |
| 41這對我們是理所當然的，因為我們所受的，正配我們所行的；但是，這個人從未做過什麼不正當的事。」 |
41And indeed, we have been condemned justly, for the sentence we received corresponds to our crimes, but this man has done nothing criminal." |
| 42隨後說：「耶穌，當你來為王時，請你紀念我！」 |
42Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." |
| 43耶穌給他說：「我實在告訴你：今天你就要與我一同在樂園裏。」 |
43He replied to him, "Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise." |
| 44這時，大約已是第六時辰，遍地都昏黑了，直到第九時辰。 |
44 It was now about noon and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon |
| 45太陽失去了光，聖所的帳幔從中間裂開， |
45because of an eclipse of the sun. Then the veil of the temple was torn down the middle. |
| 46耶穌大聲呼喊說：「父啊！我把我的靈魂交托在你手中。」說完這話，便斷了氣。 |
46Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit"; and when he had said this he breathed his last. |
| 47百夫長看見所發生的事，遂光榮天主說：「這人，實在是一個義人。」 |
47The centurion who witnessed what had happened glorified God and said, "This man was innocent beyond doubt." |
| 48所有同來看這景象的群眾，見了這些情形，都搥着胸膛，回去了。 |
48When all the people who had gathered for this spectacle saw what had happened, they returned home beating their breasts; |
| 49所有與耶穌相識的人，和那些由加里肋亞隨侍他的婦女們，遠遠地站着，觀看這些事。 |
49but all his acquaintances stood at a distance, including the women who had followed him from Galilee and saw these events. |
| 50有一個人名叫若瑟，是一個議員，又是一個善良公正的人。 |
50Now there was a virtuous and righteous man named Joseph who, though he was a member of the council, |
| 51他原是猶太阿黎瑪特雅城人，一向期待天主的國；他沒有贊同其他人的計謀和作為。 |
51had not consented to their plan of action. He came from the Jewish town of Arimathea and was awaiting the kingdom of God. |
| 52他去見比拉多，要求耶穌的遺體。 |
52He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. |
| 53他把遺體卸下，用殮布裏好，安葬在由巖石鑿成，而尚未葬過人的墓穴裏。 |
53After he had taken the body down, he wrapped it in a linen cloth and laid him in a rock-hewn tomb in which no one had yet been buried. |
| 54那天是預備日，安息日快到了。 |
54It was the day of preparation, and the sabbath was about to begin. |
| 55從加里肋亞同耶穌來的那些婦女，在後邊跟着，觀看那墓穴，並觀看耶穌的遺體，是怎樣安葬的。 |
55The women who had come from Galilee with him followed behind, and when they had seen the tomb and the way in which his body was laid in it, |
| 56她們回去，就預備下香料和香膏。安息日，她們依照誡命安息。 |
56they returned and prepared spices and perfumed oils. Then they rested on the sabbath according to the commandment. |
