| 1那時凱撒奧古斯都出了一道上諭，叫天下的人都要登記： |
1 In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be enrolled. |
| 2這是在季黎諾作敘利亞總督時，初次行的登記。 |
2This was the first enrollment, when Quirinius was governor of Syria. |
| 3於是，眾人各去本城登記。 |
3So all went to be enrolled, each to his own town. |
| 4若瑟因為是達味家族的人，也從加里肋亞納匝肋城，上猶大名叫白冷的達味城去， |
4And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, |
| 5好同自己已懷孕的聘妻瑪利亞去登記。 |
5to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. |
| 6他們在那裏的時候，她分娩的日期滿了， |
6While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, |
| 7便生了她的頭胎男兒，用襁褓裏起，放在馬槽裏，因為在客棧中為他們沒有地方。 |
7and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. |
| 8在那地區有些牧人露宿，守夜看守羊群。 |
8 Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock. |
| 9有上主的一個天使站在他們身邊，上主的光耀環照着他們，他們便非常害怕。 |
9The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear. |
| 10天使向他們說：「不要害怕！看！我給你們報告一個為全民族的大喜訊： |
10The angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. |
| 11今天在達味城中，為你們誕生了一位救世者，他是主默西亞。 |
11 For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. |
| 12這是給你們的記號：你們將要看見一個嬰兒，裏着襁褓，躺在馬槽裏。」 |
12And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger." |
| 13忽有一大隊天軍，同那天使一起讚頌天主說： |
13And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: |
| 14「天主受享光榮於高天，主愛的人在世享平安！」 |
14 "Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests." |
| 15眾天使離開他們往天上去了以後，牧人們就彼此說：「我們且往白冷去，看看上主報告給我們所發生的事。」 |
15When the angels went away from them to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go, then, to Bethlehem to see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us." |
| 16他們急忙去了，找到了瑪利亞和若瑟，並那躺在馬槽中的嬰兒。 |
16So they went in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger. |
| 17他們看見以後，就把天使對他們論這小孩所說的事，傳揚開了， |
17When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told them about this child. |
| 18凡聽見的人都驚訝牧人向他們所說的事。 |
18All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds. |
| 19瑪利亞卻把這一切事默存在自己心中，反覆思想。 |
19And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart. |
| 20牧人們為了他們所聽見和看見的一切，正如天使向他們說的一樣，就光榮讚美天主回去了。 |
20Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as it had been told to them. |
| 21滿了八天，孩子應受割損，遂給他起名叫耶穌，這是他降孕母胎前，由天使所起的。 |
21When eight days were completed for his circumcision, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. |
| 22按梅瑟的法律，一滿了他們取潔的日期，他們便帶着孩子上耶路撒冷去獻給上主， |
22 When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, |
| 23就如上主的法律上所記載的：「凡開胎首生的男性，應祝聖於上主。」 |
23just as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord," |
| 24並該照上主法律上所吩咐的，獻上祭物：一對斑鳩或兩隻鶵鴿。 |
24and to offer the sacrifice of "a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons," in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord. |
| 25那時，在耶路撒冷有一個人，名叫西默盎。這人正義虔誠，期待着以色列的安慰，而且聖神也在他身上。 |
25Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the holy Spirit was upon him. |
| 26他曾蒙聖神啟示：自己在未看見上主的受傅者以前，決見不到死亡。 |
26It had been revealed to him by the holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Messiah of the Lord. |
| 27他因聖神的感動，進了聖殿；那時，抱着嬰孩耶穌的父母正進來，要按着法律的慣例為他行禮。 |
27He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him, |
| 28西默盎就雙臂接過他來，讚美天主說： |
28he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying: |
| 29「主啊！現在可照你的話，放你的僕人平安去了！ |
29"Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word, |
| 30因為我親眼看見了你的救援， |
30for my eyes have seen your salvation, |
| 31即你在萬民之前早準備好的： |
31which you prepared in sight of all the peoples, |
| 32為作啟示異邦的光明，你百姓以色列的榮耀。」 |
32a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel." |
| 33他的父親和母親就驚異他關於耶穌所說的這些話。 |
33The child's father and mother were amazed at what was said about him; |
| 34西默盎祝福了他們，又向他的母親瑪利亞說：「看，這孩子已被立定，為使以色列中許多人跌倒和復起，並成為反對的記號── |
34and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, "Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted |
| 35至於你，要有一把利劍剌透你的心靈──為叫許多人心中的思念顯露出來。」 |
35(and you yourself a sword will pierce) so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed." |
| 36又有一位女先知亞納，是阿協爾支派法奴耳的女兒，已上了年紀。她出閣後，與丈夫同居了七年， |
36There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived seven years with her husband after her marriage, |
| 37以後就守寡，直到八十四歲。她齋戒祈禱，晝夜事奉天主，總不離開聖殿。 |
37and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple, but worshiped night and day with fasting and prayer. |
| 38正在那時刻，她也前來稱謝天主，並向一切希望耶路撒冷得救贖的人，講論這孩子。 |
38And coming forward at that very time, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem. |
| 39他們按着上主的法律，行完了一切，便返回了加里肋亞，他們的本城納匝肋。 |
39When they had fulfilled all the prescriptions of the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. |
| 40孩子漸漸長大而強壯，充滿智慧，天主的恩寵常在他身上。 |
40The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him. |
| 41他的父母每年逾越節往耶路撒冷去。 |
41 Each year his parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, |
| 42他到了十二歲時，他們又照節日的慣例上去了。 |
42and when he was twelve years old, they went up according to festival custom. |
| 43過完了節日，他們回去的時候，孩童耶穌卻留在耶路撒冷，他的父母並未發覺。 |
43After they had completed its days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it. |
| 44他們只以為他在同行的人中間，遂走了一天的路程；以後，就在親戚和相識的人中尋找他。 |
44Thinking that he was in the caravan, they journeyed for a day and looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances, |
| 45既找不着，便折回耶路撒冷找他。 |
45but not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem to look for him. |
| 46過了三天，纔在聖殿裏找到了他。他正坐在經師中，聆聽他們，也詢問他們。 |
46After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions, |
| 47凡聽見他的人，對他的智慧和對答，都驚奇不止。 |
47and all who heard him were astounded at his understanding and his answers. |
| 48他們一看見他，便大為驚異，他的母親就向他說：「孩子，為什麼你這樣對待我們？看，你的父親和我，一直痛苦的找你。」 |
48When his parents saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, "Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety." |
| 49耶穌對他們說：「你們為什麼尋找我？你們不知道我必須在我父親那裏嗎？」 |
49And he said to them, "Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?" |
| 50但是，他們不明白他對他們所說的話。 |
50But they did not understand what he said to them. |
| 51他就同他們下去，來到納匝肋，屬他們管轄。他的母親把這一切默存在心中。 |
51He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart. |
| 52耶穌在智慧和身量上，並在天主和人前的恩愛上，漸漸地增長。 |
52And Jesus advanced (in) wisdom and age and favor before God and man. |
