1 In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene, |
| 2亞納斯和蓋法作大司祭時，在荒野中有天主的話，傳給匝加利亞的兒子若翰。 |
2during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the desert. |
| 3他遂走遍約但河一帶地方，宣講悔改的洗禮，為得罪之赦。 |
3 He went throughout (the) whole region of the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, |
| 4正如《依撒意亞先知預言書》上記載的：「在荒野中有呼號者的聲音：你們當預備上主的道路，修直他的途徑！ |
4 as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah: "A voice of one crying out in the desert: 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths. |
| 5一切深谷要填滿，一切山岳丘陵要剷平，彎曲的要修直，崎嶇的要開成坦途！ |
5Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be made low. The winding roads shall be made straight, and the rough ways made smooth, |
| 6凡有血肉的，都要看見天主的救援。」 |
6and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.'" |
| 7於是，他對那些前來要受他洗禮的群眾說：「毒蛇的種類！誰指教你們逃避那就要來的忿怒？ |
7He said to the crowds who came out to be baptized by him, "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? |
| 8那麼，結與悔改相稱的果實罷！你們心裏不要以為：我們有亞巴郎為父。我給你們說：天主能從這些石頭中給亞巴郎興起子孫來。 |
8Produce good fruits as evidence of your repentance; and do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father,' for I tell you, God can raise up children to Abraham from these stones. |
| 9斧子已放到樹根上了；凡不結好果子的樹，必被砍倒，投入火中。」 |
9Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire." |
| 10群眾向他說：「那麼，我們該作什麼呢？」 |
10And the crowds asked him, "What then should we do?" |
| 11他答覆他們說：「有兩件內衣的，要分給那沒有的；有食物的，也應照樣作。」 |
11He said to them in reply, "Whoever has two cloaks should share with the person who has none. And whoever has food should do likewise." |
| 12稅吏也來受洗，並問他說：「師傅，我們該作什麼呢？」 |
12Even tax collectors came to be baptized and they said to him, "Teacher, what should we do?" |
| 13他向他們說：「除給你們規定的外，不要多徵收！」 |
13He answered them, "Stop collecting more than what is prescribed." |
| 14軍人也問他說：「我們該作什麼呢？」他向他們說：「不要勒索人，也不要敲詐；對你們的糧餉應當知足！」 |
14Soldiers also asked him, "And what is it that we should do?" He told them, "Do not practice extortion, do not falsely accuse anyone, and be satisfied with your wages." |
| 15那時，百姓都在期待（默西亞），為此，人人心中推想：或許若翰就是默西亞。 |
15Now the people were filled with expectation, and all were asking in their hearts whether John might be the Messiah. |
| 16若翰便向眾人說道：「我固然以水洗你們，但是比我強的一位要來，就是解他的鞋帶，我也不配。他要以聖神和火洗你們。 |
16 John answered them all, saying, "I am baptizing you with water, but one mightier than I is coming. I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals. He will baptize you with the holy Spirit and fire. |
| 17木鍁已放在他手中，他要揚淨自己的禾場，把麥粒收在倉內；至於糠粃，卻要用不滅的火焚燒。」 |
17His winnowing fan is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire." |
| 18他還講了許多別的勸言，給百姓傳報喜訊。 |
18Exhorting them in many other ways, he preached good news to the people. |
| 19分封侯黑落德卻為了自己兄弟的妻子黑落狄雅，並為了黑落德本人所作的一切惡事，受了若翰的指摘， |
19 Now Herod the tetrarch, who had been censured by him because of Herodias, his brother's wife, and because of all the evil deeds Herod had committed, |
| 20又在一切的惡事上加了這一件：即把若翰囚禁在監中。 |
20added still another to these by (also) putting John in prison. |
| 21眾百姓受洗後，耶穌也受了洗；當他祈禱時，天開了； |
21 After all the people had been baptized and Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, heaven was opened |
| 22聖神藉着一個形像，如同鴿子，降在他上邊；並有聲音從天上說：「你是我的愛子，我因你而喜悅。」 |
22 and the holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased." |
| 23耶穌開始傳教的時候，大約三十歲，人都以他為若瑟的兒子：若瑟是赫里的兒子，赫里是瑪塔特的兒子， |
23 When Jesus began his ministry he was about thirty years of age. He was the son, as was thought, of Joseph, the son of Heli, |

24the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph, |
