John |
| 1有一個法利塞黨人，名叫尼苛德摩，是個猶太人的首領。 |
1 Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. |
| 2有一夜，他來到耶穌前，向他說：「辣彼，我們知道你是由天主而來的師傅，因為天主若不同他在一起，誰也不能行你所行的這些神蹟。」 |
2He came to Jesus at night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God, for no one can do these signs that you are doing unless God is with him." |
| 3耶穌回答說：「我實實在在告訴你：人除非由上而生，不能見到天主的國。」 |
3Jesus answered and said to him, "Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above." |
| 4尼苛德摩說：「人已年老，怎樣能重生呢？難道他還能再入母腹而重生嗎？」 |
4Nicodemus said to him, "How can a person once grown old be born again? Surely he cannot reenter his mother's womb and be born again, can he?" |
| 5耶穌回答說：「我實實在在告訴你：人除非由水和聖神而生，不能進天主的國： |
5Jesus answered, "Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. |
| 6由肉生的屬於肉，由神生的屬於神。 |
6What is born of flesh is flesh and what is born of spirit is spirit. |
| 7你不要驚奇，因我給你說了：你們應該由上而生。 |
7Do not be amazed that I told you, 'You must be born from above.' |
| 8風隨意向那裏吹，你聽到風的響聲，卻不知道風從那裏來，往那裏去：凡由聖神而生的就是這樣。」 |
8The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes; so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit." |
| 9尼苛德摩問說：「這事怎樣能成就呢？」 |
9Nicodemus answered and said to him, "How can this happen?" |
| 10耶穌回答說：「你是以色列的師傅，連這事你都不知道嗎？ |
10Jesus answered and said to him, "You are the teacher of Israel and you do not understand this? |
| 11我實實在在告訴你：我們知道的，我們纔講論；我們見過的，我們纔作證；而你們卻不接受我們的見證。 |
11Amen, amen, I say to you, we speak of what we know and we testify to what we have seen, but you people do not accept our testimony. |
| 12若我給你們說地上的事，你們尚且不信；若我給你們說天上的事，你們怎麼會信呢？ |
12If I tell you about earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? |
| 13沒有人上過天，除了那自天降下而仍在天上的人子。 |
13No one has gone up to heaven except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man. |
| 14正如梅瑟曾在曠野裏高舉了蛇，人子也應照樣被舉起來， |
14And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, |
| 15使凡信的人，在他內得永生。」 |
15 so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life." |
| 16天主竟這樣愛了世界，甚至賜下了自己的獨生子，使凡信他的人不至喪亡，反而獲得永生， |
16For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. |
| 17因為天主沒有派遣子到世界上來審判世界，而是為叫世界藉着他而獲救。 |
17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. |
| 18那信從他的，不受審判；那不信的，已受了審判，因為他沒有信從天主獨生子的名字。 |
18Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. |
| 19審判就在於此：光明來到了世界，世人卻愛黑暗甚於光明，因為他們的行為是邪惡的。 |
19 And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil. |
| 20的確，凡作惡的，都憎惡光明，也不來就光明，怕自己的行為彰顯出來； |
20For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. |
| 21然而履行真理的，卻來就光明，為顯示出他的行為是在天主內完成的。 |
21But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God. |
| 22此後，耶穌和門徒來到猶太地，同他們一起住在那裏施洗。 |
22 After this, Jesus and his disciples went into the region of Judea, where he spent some time with them baptizing. |
| 23那時若翰也在臨近撒林的艾農施洗，因為那裏水多，人們常來受洗。 |
23John was also baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was an abundance of water there, and people came to be baptized, |
| 24那時，若翰尚未被投在監獄裏。 |
24 for John had not yet been imprisoned. |
| 25若翰的門徒和一個猶太人，關於取潔禮發生了爭辯。 |
25Now a dispute arose between the disciples of John and a Jew about ceremonial washings. |
| 26他們便來到若翰前對他說：「辣彼！曾同你一起在約但河對岸，你給他作證的那位，看，他也施洗；並且眾人都到他那裏去了。」 |
26So they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, the one who was with you across the Jordan, to whom you testified, here he is baptizing and everyone is coming to him." |
| 27若翰回答說：「人不能領受什麼，除非有天上的賞賜。 |
27John answered and said, "No one can receive anything except what has been given him from heaven. |
| 28你們自己可以給我作證，我曾說過：我不是默西亞，我只是被派遣作他前驅的， |
28You yourselves can testify that I said (that) I am not the Messiah, but that I was sent before him. |
| 29有新娘的是新郎；新郎的朋友，侍立靜聽，一聽得新郎的聲音，就非常喜樂：我的喜樂已滿足了。 |
29The one who has the bride is the bridegroom; the best man, who stands and listens for him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. So this joy of mine has been made complete. |
| 30他應該興盛，我卻應該衰微。」 |
30He must increase; I must decrease." |
| 31那由上而來的，超越一切。那出於下地的，是屬於下地，且講論下地的事；那自上天而來的，超越萬有之上， |
31 The one who comes from above is above all. The one who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of earthly things. But the one who comes from heaven (is above all). |
| 32他對所見所聞的，予以作證，卻沒有人接受他的見證。 |
32He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony. |
| 33那接受他見證的人，就是證實天主是真實的。 |
33Whoever does accept his testimony certifies that God is trustworthy. |
| 34天主所派遣的，講論天主的話，因為天主把聖神無限量地賞賜了他。 |
34For the one whom God sent speaks the words of God. He does not ration his gift of the Spirit. |
| 35父愛子，並把一切交在他手中。 |
35The Father loves the Son and has given everything over to him. |
| 36那信從子的，便有永生；那不信從子的，不但不會見到生命，反有天主的義怒常在他身上。 |
36Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains upon him. |
