Acts |
| 1在凱撒勒雅有一個人，名叫科爾乃略，是所謂意大利營的百夫長。 |
1 Now in Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion of the Cohort called the Italica, |
| 2他同他的全家，是虔誠而敬畏天主的人，對百姓慷慨好施，又常向天主祈禱。 |
2devout and God-fearing along with his whole household, who used to give alms generously to the Jewish people and pray to God constantly. |
| 3有一天，大約第九時辰，他在異像中，清楚看見天主的一位天使進來，到他跟前向他說：「科爾乃略！」 |
3One afternoon about three o'clock, he saw plainly in a vision an angel of God come in to him and say to him, "Cornelius." |
| 4他注目看天使，就驚惶害怕說：「主，有什麼事？」天使回答說：「你的祈禱和施捨已升到天主面前，獲得紀念。 |
4He looked intently at him and, seized with fear, said, "What is it, sir?" He said to him, "Your prayers and almsgiving have ascended as a memorial offering before God. |
| 5你現在打發人往約培去，請號稱伯多祿的一位西滿來。 |
5Now send some men to Joppa and summon one Simon who is called Peter. |
| 6這人客居在一個名叫西滿的皮匠家裏，他的房子靠着海。」 |
6He is staying with another Simon, a tanner, who has a house by the sea." |
| 7向他說話的天使一走，他便叫來了兩個家僕和常護衛自己的一個虔誠兵士， |
7When the angel who spoke to him had left, he called two of his servants and a devout soldier from his staff, |
| 8把一切事告訴了他們，就打發他們往約培去了。 |
8explained everything to them, and sent them to Joppa. |
| 9第二天，他們行路將近城的時候，約在第六個時辰，伯多祿上了屋頂祈禱。 |
9 The next day, while they were on their way and nearing the city, Peter went up to the roof terrace to pray at about noontime. |
| 10他那時餓了，願意進食；正在人預備飯的時候，他就神魂超拔 了。 |
10He was hungry and wished to eat, and while they were making preparations he fell into a trance. |
| 11他看見天開了，降下一個器皿，好像一塊大布，繫着四角，縋到地上， |
11He saw heaven opened and something resembling a large sheet coming down, lowered to the ground by its four corners. |
| 12裏面有各種四足獸、地上的爬蟲和天空的飛鳥。 |
12In it were all the earth's four-legged animals and reptiles and the birds of the sky. |
| 13有聲音向他說：「伯多祿！起來，宰了，吃罷！」 |
13A voice said to him, "Get up, Peter. Slaughter and eat." |
| 14伯多祿卻答說：「主，絕對不可！因為我從來沒有吃過一樣污穢和不潔之物。」 |
14But Peter said, "Certainly not, sir. For never have I eaten anything profane and unclean." |
| 15聲音第二次又向他說：「天主稱為潔淨的，你不可稱為污穢！」 |
15The voice spoke to him again, a second time, "What God has made clean, you are not to call profane." |
| 16這事一連發生了三次，那器皿隨即撤回天上去了。 |
16This happened three times, and then the object was taken up into the sky. |
| 17伯多祿正在猜想他所見的異像有什麼意思的時候，看，科爾乃略打發來的人，已查問到西滿的家，站在門前。 |
17 While Peter was in doubt about the meaning of the vision he had seen, the men sent by Cornelius asked for Simon's house and arrived at the entrance. |
| 18他們喊着詢問：號稱伯多祿的西滿是否住在這裏。 |
18They called out inquiring whether Simon, who is called Peter, was staying there. |
| 19伯多祿還在沉思那異像時，聖神說：「看，有三個人找你。 |
19As Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said (to him), "There are three men here looking for you. |
| 20起來，下去，同他們一起去罷！不要疑惑，因為是我打發他們來的。」 |
20So get up, go downstairs, and accompany them without hesitation, because I have sent them." |
| 21伯多祿下來向那些人說：「看，我就是你們所找的人。你們來這裏做什麼？」 |
21Then Peter went down to the men and said, "I am the one you are looking for. What is the reason for your being here?" |
| 22他們答說：「科爾乃略百夫長是個正義和敬畏天主的人，也受全猶太人民的稱譽；他蒙聖天使指示，請你到他家去，聽你講道。」 |
22They answered, "Cornelius, a centurion, an upright and God-fearing man, respected by the whole Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to summon you to his house and to hear what you have to say." |
| 23伯多祿於是請他們進來住下，第二天起來，便同他們一齊去了；還有幾個約培的兄弟陪着他。 |
23So he invited them in and showed them hospitality. The next day he got up and went with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa went with him. |
| 24次日，他到了凱撒勒雅。 |
24 On the following day he entered Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends. |
| 25當伯多祿進來的時候，科爾乃略去迎接他，跪伏在他腳前叩拜。 |
25When Peter entered, Cornelius met him and, falling at his feet, paid him homage. |
| 26伯多祿拉他起來說：「起來！我自己也是個人。」 |
26Peter, however, raised him up, saying, "Get up. I myself am also a human being." |
| 27就同他談着話進去了，看見有許多人聚集在那裏， |
27While he conversed with him, he went in and found many people gathered together |
| 28便對他們說：「你們都知道猶太人是不准同外邦人交接來往的；但是，天主指示給我，沒有一個可說是污穢或不潔的人。 |
28and said to them, "You know that it is unlawful for a Jewish man to associate with, or visit, a Gentile, but God has shown me that I should not call any person profane or unclean. |
| 29為此，我一被請，毫不猶豫地就來了。請問：你們請我來是為什麼原故？」 |
29And that is why I came without objection when sent for. May I ask, then, why you summoned me?" |
| 30科爾乃略說：「從此時起，四天以前，第九時辰，我在我房中祈禱時，忽然有位穿華麗衣服的人站在我面前， |
30Cornelius replied, "Four days ago at this hour, three o'clock in the afternoon, I was at prayer in my house when suddenly a man in dazzling robes stood before me and said, |
| 31說：科爾乃略，你的祈禱蒙了垂允，你的施捨在天主前得到記 念。 |
31'Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your almsgiving remembered before God. |
| 32所以，你要打發人往約培去，叫號稱伯多祿的西滿來，他客居在靠近海的皮匠西滿家裏。 |
32Send therefore to Joppa and summon Simon, who is called Peter. He is a guest in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea.' |
| 33我就立刻打發人到你那裏去了。你來的真好！現今我們眾人都在天主前，要聽主所吩咐你的一切。」 |
33So I sent for you immediately, and you were kind enough to come. Now therefore we are all here in the presence of God to listen to all that you have been commanded by the Lord." |
| 34伯多祿遂開口說：「我真正明白了：天主是不看情面的， |
34 Then Peter proceeded to speak and said, "In truth, I see that God shows no partiality. |
| 35凡在各民族中，敬畏他而又履行正義的人，都是他所中悅的。 |
35Rather, in every nation whoever fears him and acts uprightly is acceptable to him. |
| 36他藉耶穌基督──他原是萬民的主──宣講了和平的喜訊，把這道先傳給以色列子民。 |
36 You know the word (that) he sent to the Israelites as he proclaimed peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all, |
| 37你們都知道：在若翰宣講洗禮以後，從加里肋亞開始，在全猶太所發生的事： |
37what has happened all over Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached, |
| 38天主怎樣以聖神和德能傅了納匝肋的耶穌，使他巡行各處，施恩行善，治好一切受魔鬼壓制的人，因為天主同他在一起。 |
38how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the holy Spirit and power. He went about doing good and healing all those oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. |
| 39我們就是他在猶太人地域和耶路撒冷所行一切的見證人。他們卻把他懸在木架上，殺死了。 |
39We are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and (in) Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree. |
| 40第三天，天主使他復活了，叫他顯現出來， |
40This man God raised (on) the third day and granted that he be visible, |
| 41不是給所有的百姓，而是給天主所預揀的見證人，就是給我們這些在他從死者中復活後，與他同食共飲的人。 |
41not to all the people, but to us, the witnesses chosen by God in advance, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. |
| 42他吩咐我們向百姓講道，指證他就是天主所立的生者與死者的判官。 |
42He commissioned us to preach to the people and testify that he is the one appointed by God as judge of the living and the dead. |
| 43一切先知都為他作證：凡信他的人，賴他的名字都要獲得罪赦。」 |
43To him all the prophets bear witness, that everyone who believes in him will receive forgiveness of sins through his name." |
| 44伯多祿還在講這些話的時候，聖神降在所有聽道的人身上。 |
44While Peter was still speaking these things, the holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the word. |
| 45那些受過割損與伯多祿同來的信徒，都驚訝聖神的恩惠也傾注在外邦人身上， |
45The circumcised believers who had accompanied Peter were astounded that the gift of the holy Spirit should have been poured out on the Gentiles also, |
| 46因為聽見他們說各種語言，並頌揚天主。那時，伯多祿就發言說： |
46for they could hear them speaking in tongues and glorifying God. Then Peter responded, |
| 47「這些人既領受了聖神，和我們一樣，誰能阻止他們不受水洗呢？」 |
47"Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people, who have received the holy Spirit even as we have?" |
| 48遂吩咐人以耶穌基督的名給他們付洗。以後，他們求伯多祿再住了幾天。 |
48He ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. |
